Randy is one of my favorite people that I have ever met in racing. If you can describe your track you race at to him he will get you what you need to win. Chris is the same way and great explaining what you need over the ph and in person. If you are new to prep or have a limited supply of tires start with at2. If you have a old set of tires use those to hone in your prepping skill's. You can get a tire softer but you will never get a prepped tire back harder. On track tac's web page it explain's what each prep will and can do. Thank's Ben on a well documented show
Great video Ben, im new to the game of prepping tires. Im a disabled Delawarian and my stepson is running the kart i recently bought. I wrote down the different preps you personally use. Im fully aware figuring this out is a science like anything else but im willing to learn as i go. Thanks for sharing this video and tutorial abt preps and the basics of it. Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA
Hey Ben can you do a video talking about the different types of track surfaces and go more in depth about the surfaces so we have a better understanding of what we newbies are to be looking for? I think we all can kind of guess what dry and dusty look like but it's those other surfaces that can be tricky if you don't know what you're looking for.
Man crazy how times changed. Used some red stuff no name 12 bucks a windex bottle to Burris qualifier or the tire softener from Burris. Back when fuel was 2.50 to 3.50 a gallon. alcohol
Ben when you PRW a tire let's say with 3 SQS wipes will it make your tire pressure from cold to hot rise higher than without it and raise the hot temp? Thanks keep up the good work......
It helps the tread come in quicker. So I’d say Yes that initiates heat, so it may raise the internal air pressure faster? That’d be a fun experiment, test on a cold day with and without PRW tire pressure differences.
Ben, love the video, my first year karting and learned a lot from your videos, my son won his first race a couple weeks ago, question. We run yellow vegas and the only prep im doing is trac tac orange on Wednesday and at the track between runs and this has worked well for the 1/8th mile flat oval we run, the temps are getting into the 50s now at night, should i switch to sqs or keep everything the same. Im in middle tennesee. Thansk
Hey Ben, using Black Sand for this weekend on Maxxis slicks. What prep do you recommend to drop duro along with Black Sand. Our track is always dry slick. Thanks!
Thanks for the video Ben, was wondering what are the amounts you use when internally rolling a tire. I run Vega yellows and finally got a roller for my tires but I have never internally rolled them before.
@@kart6t3_ben so what prep has the most softening and most bite but also locks the Tire derometer afterwards. Im looking for to try some on rc crawler tires.
@@sirjager9172 most softening and bite =Topaz. Best bite and locking = Mint. Ideally you would soften with topaz then lock with mint I guess. Don’t know if one that does both though.
What is I've got a set of Maxxis red and they have got all the Rubber still on the tire but they are probably about 5 years old. Should I just throw them away? They have been sitting for about 5 years
In general, Harder tires. Now this can mean less external prepping or a different/less internal type prep. Some people have a tendency to go for the softer tires because they feel good when the green flag drops. Harder tires will feel ok but not great but as other tires fade…. They get stronger. Imo.
Not at all. I use two different preps in a day sometimes. Say I prepped with a base layer of one prep prior to race day. I start the day using Orange PRW but come night fall if use SQS for more bite.
No. Part of the prep will not pass through the tread from inside out. Two that I know of that can’t be used internally are Black Sand and Tire tuff Mint.
I really do and have appreciated ur videos, im "new" to karting going on my 2nd season and i love videos like the ones youve been posting. I let them play while im working on the kart in my shop, helps make boring Ny winters just that much better.

Can do. I have some tracks in mind when I read that. Great idea.
Really appreciate your insight, very helpful for a beginner with tire preps
I’m glad to help at all. Thank You for watching.
Great video! I'm new to your channel so I'm trying to watch as much as I can! lol But I really appreciate your Videos. Thanks again!!

If the temps are getting that low I’d be on Sqs for sure. Thank you for watching.
Hey Ben, using Black Sand for this weekend on Maxxis slicks. What prep do you recommend to drop duro along with Black Sand. Our track is always dry slick. Thanks!
Two good ones that arnt crazy aggressive but will drop duro are SST and Gk1 I’d say a 4/5 of 10 aggressiveness.

If you want to start light 1oz rights .5oz lefts. But Vegas can take more. My standard for Vegas is R 2oz, L 1oz

@@kart6t3_ben thank you for the reply :) I may try just that out an see how it works
What would you say for a beginner racing Hoosier tires in dry concrete skatepark? Clean and wipe with a prep?
Yes. Probably something like Black sand would be my guess. Black sand is used on hard and dry dirt tracks.
@@kart6t3_ben how do you feel about quick lap?
@@east905skims5 I know of hot lap. Good stuff
Ben when reading Track Tac brochure it states it can be used inside the tire. It sounds like you have a different oppinion am I correct?
Black sand or? I was told part of the mix will not pass through the tire. Most preps will.
Hi Ben. Do you ever race on asphalt and if so will SQS work on the internal and external of a tire?
No I don’t race asphalt. And yes SQS works great internal or external.
What is I've got a set of Maxxis red and they have got all the Rubber still on the tire but they are probably about 5 years old. Should I just throw them away? They have been sitting for about 5 years
Maybe? If they are good and hard they aren’t really good for anything but really hard tracks in 90 degree weather.
Nothing about internal prepping?
I have more videos on that.

Any extra advice to deal with the tire fading mid to late race?
In general, Harder tires. Now this can mean less external prepping or a different/less internal type prep. I like my tires to duro at 55 to 60. But I'm definitely willing to try harder tires thank you
@Kart 6T3_Ben would you advise against cutting prep with more then one other kind of prep? Again thank you
@@bummy-ob7ch cutting? I’ve blended multiple before. Typically reducing the effects with something like acrysol is normal.
So no problem using one prep one week then a different prep the following week on the same set of tires?
Not at all. I use two different preps in a day sometimes. Say I prepped with a base layer of one prep prior to race day. I start the day using Orange PRW but come night fall if use SQS for more bite.
Just starting in Kart racing. What does dropping Deuro mean?
Softness of the tire. When you put some preps on a tire it softens the rubber.
My son races at moose mountain in Hastings New York what would be a good prep to put on a tire at the track
I think I know a couple guys from there. From what I’ve seen it’s pretty dry and dusty. Black Sand would be my choice for that type of track.
@@kart6t3_ben thank you and thank you for the videos they help out

Hey could you talk a little about the the voodoo that is cutting tires! 😂
I can try.
I'm from the southeast what line would you recommend for me
Maxxis type hard tracks, Internally I’d do AT2 and externally black sand and acrysol at the track. IMO
What’s a gum ball track?
Gumball would refer to super soft tires on a soft track.
How do you if I roll your tires pepper in
I’m sorry, I don’t understand the question.
Trac tac gets r done.
Agreed 👍
Whats the 6T3 in Kart 6T3?
