I know many people are unhappy over OVA reactions instead of S4. NGL i was expecting S4 too But I'm happy with any AOT content. It's good to know that you guys are equally interested in exploring everything related to this show even if it doesn't line up directly to the main plot

I think these OVAs really flesh out Annie as a character. At first, she seemed really cold and indifferent. But you also see moments in S1 where she apologizes to the random bodies and tries to persuade Armin and Connie not to join the Scouts because of what she's going to do. Or when she reassures Marlowe that he's human and that there's nothing wrong with being swept up with the flow. In S3, she has that moment of clearly wanting to help Marco, but being unable to because of her mission. Or when she spares Armin. It's like what Mikasa said. This world is cruel, but also beautiful. Annie has aspects of cruelty to her. But she also has moments of beauty. Where she cherishes life and doesn't want to hurt people. And that hesitation is what led to her capture. A truly lost girl. Even if she gains her freedom from her egg cocoon, she has to keep moving forward. No matter how much the bodies pile up.
i get why everyone is hyped to watch season 4 asap, but i also appreciate that you guys are going through and watching the OVA’s + getting any extra context! season 4 isn’t going anywhere, can’t wait to see when you guys finally start it!!

It feels like an unecessarily confusing scene IMO.

The Mikasa episode its giving the theorie of the butterfly, that says that even the slightest flick of the wings of a butterfly can make a tornado in the other side of the world, meaning the smallest action can change the whole future, you can see it in the scene where the butterfly doesn't get eaten, but even changing the past, it doesn't stop the erens "death", the things kept the same, the armins apology, the scarf, the moment of mikasa with the knife, all was predestined

A sudden visitor is one of my favorite OVAs just because of the weirdness of it, but the Mikasa episode is also so good, especially when rewatching the show.

Wow, you guys live in such a hurry, i mean, i get the hype for season 4, i wanna see it too, but i'm not thinking about it for the whole week as you guys seem to be. As an anime watcher who waited for episodes each week, i kinda learned to just let time flow, when it comes, it comes, as if you all didn't wait 4 years between a season and another. I can wait, i dont mind watching OVAs, its not like i'm in a hurry to finish one of the best shows ever made again.
I think people are more mad at the fact that these OVA's could have been used as a mid season cleanser instead of a starter to season 4. Especially Mikasa's OVA. Annie's OVA I understand, but Mikasa's is a bit of a spoiler to the end.

Those two are meant to be watched after season 3 part 1, since they have some spoilers and is not strictly meant to be seen with the context of the end of season 3. Like the little bit about Armin's parents allegedly dying in the hot air balloon instead of by the hands of the interior police. 28:54 She also ordered lemonade at the bar. And remember in the flashback in 2x6 Sasha was like "She likes sweets! Even though she's always so grumpy!" 45:34 No. In this reality the bandits got eaten so they never showed up and Grisha was able to do his visit to check up on Mikasa's upcoming sibling. 47:45 Yeah, because her powers never activated in this reality. Which is also why she did not pull Eren away from the guys who then consequently beat him up here instead. 48:50 Here she's apologizing because her mom only got problems with the pregnancy due to her wish to be closer to Eren. If we want to see this OVA with an even darker tone, this alternate reality might've been the actual real reality originally, but Mikasa changed it to where her parents will get murdered, just so she got onto this timeline where she could be with Eren. 52:41 Under the tree...
Don’t pay attention to the desperate comments, if it were for them , they would have you watching the whole four seasons in one day and posting them in one video. Take your time and enjoy everything that AOT has to offer. Those that got to watch AOT as it was airing also had the chance to watch the OVA’s as we waited for the next season, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t.
I never seen AoT OVAs, so this is the first time i'm watching them, i was wondering if there were more after the last ones we watched. Its very interesting to see this extra content and how it ties back to the main story, i know very well how any AoT content complements each other in a beautiful, round up circle tied with a perfect knot, that being anime, manga, openings, endings, OVAs and soundtrack, its always great to see.
Love a good ova! It's always fun to see all the interesting extra bits that aren't generally relevant to the main story, but improve world-building and/or character development.
Fun fact: In The "Lost in the Cruel world" OVA, the group of guys who killed by the wolfes, is the same group who killed mikasa's parents and kidnapped her. Because it's "alternative reality" and they was about to do that 1 day before but their fate changed, and thats why Mikasa and Eren got spared by the Wolf's too.

13:10 this OVA actually came out before season 3 and Lost in a cruel world came out between Season 3 part 1 and 2.. Fun fact: these episodes were adapted from the novel of the same name written by Hiroshi Seko. And Hiroshi Seko was one of the writers for the series until season 4. Where he was now the main Screenwriter and afaik wrote every single episode in the season, from the premiere to the final episode.

What was happening there is her dad trained her all this time to be all this...and at some point it didn't matter anymore...he just wanted her to make sure she comes back home

I did notice the forsahdowing the first time I watch Mikasa's OVA, but damn. Watching it over again was a spoiler without a spoiler if you get what I mean. This is what I like about AOT. The answer to your questions is right in front of you, but you don't realize it until after you've watched the whole series.
"A whole different world..." That's what struck me, too. Illegal drug trade. Bottled soft-drinks (with what sounded like a metal pop-top cap), industrial urban sewage system. Now compare/contrast with Eren's/Armin's/Mikasa's home in Shiganshina, which looked Medieval or early Renaissance level of development. And then they mention "Chemistry Major," which suggests some kind of College or University system. All this is in the Inner Wall rings. Some much needed world-building about life within the walls, not just the Scout Regiment and fighting Titans. Later eps. in S4 seem to suggest to me that Mikasa was actually kind of "bouncing" through alternate realities, alternatives she was making/wishing for in order to be with/stay with Eren. The "How" of that will also be answered (or at least strongly suggested) in later eps. in S4.
This is the perfect time to watch the lost girls OVAs, just take note of Mikasa's last sentence where she says that she will always be on Eren's side. That phrase is echoed in the wildest part of S4
About the young age of the characters you should know that it's a common thing for editors to request an age change for the most important characters because teenagers are the main consumers of manga and they noticed that if the character is around the same age of the reader they get more popular, so probably this is also the case If you think about it a nation doesn't want an army made of teenagers who aren't mentally and physically at their peak, you want people who are at least 18, better if over 20, so probably Eren and friends in the mind of the mangaka were adults or at least a bit older when they join the scouts This is pure speculation but it's so common that I wouldn't be surprised

Wow, you guys live in such a hurry, i mean, i get the hype for season 4, i wanna see it too, but i'm not thinking about it for the whole week as you guys seem to be. As an anime watcher who waited for episodes each week, i kinda learned to just let time flow, when it comes, it comes, as if you all didn't wait 4 years between a season and another. I can wait, i dont mind watching OVAs, its not like i'm in a hurry to finish one of the best shows ever made again.
I think people are more mad at the fact that these OVA's could have been used as a mid season cleanser instead of a starter to season 4. Especially Mikasa's OVA. Annie's OVA I understand, but Mikasa's is a bit of a spoiler to the end.

But, since at this juncture they haven't started season 4 ( I know on Patreon they have) I'm hoping they don't put to much thought into it.

I read a lot of comments said to You start the S4 now but i really glad you guys give a chance to watch more of the work from the serie. Anyways if you decide not see all OVAs (what its ok because not everyone is really good or totally important for the story) i really hope You watch the OVA focus on Levi (the best of all in my opinion)

Loved that you watched these OVA’s right before season 4, I think the placement is perfect and will greatly enhance your viewing of the rest of the show. I wish I had watched them in that order, I didn’t get to watch any of the OVAs until after I had finished the entire show. It still was good to watch the OVAs afterwards regardless but I would have liked to watch them in the order that you guys did ☺️ great decision

Those two are meant to be watched after season 3 part 1, since they have some spoilers and is not strictly meant to be seen with the context of the end of season 3. Like the little bit about Armin's parents allegedly dying in the hot air balloon instead of by the hands of the interior police.

Take your time and enjoy everything that AOT has to offer. Those that got to watch AOT as it was airing also had the chance to watch the OVA’s as we waited for the next season, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t.

I never seen AoT OVAs, so this is the first time i'm watching them, i was wondering if there were more after the last ones we watched. Its very interesting to see this extra content and how it ties back to the main story, i know very well how any AoT content complements each other in a beautiful, round up circle tied with a perfect knot, that being anime, manga, openings, endings, OVAs and soundtrack, its always great to see.

Fun fact:
In The "Lost in the Cruel world" OVA, the group of guys who killed by the wolfes, is the same group who killed mikasa's parents and kidnapped her. Because it's "alternative reality" and they was about to do that 1 day before but their fate changed, and thats why Mikasa and Eren got spared by the Wolf's too.

Fun fact: these episodes were adapted from the novel of the same name written by Hiroshi Seko.
And Hiroshi Seko was one of the writers for the series until season 4.
Where he was now the main Screenwriter and afaik wrote every single episode in the season, from the premiere to the final episode.
I think it's fine to edge the viewers a bit, and I think the viewers don't realize that they don't want things to end too soon 😆

I did notice the forsahdowing the first time I watch Mikasa's OVA, but damn. Watching it over again was a spoiler without a spoiler if you get what I mean. This is what I like about AOT. The answer to your questions is right in front of you, but you don't realize it until after you've watched the whole series.

"A whole different world..." That's what struck me, too. Illegal drug trade. Bottled soft-drinks (with what sounded like a metal pop-top cap), industrial urban sewage system. Now compare/contrast with Eren's/Armin's/Mikasa's home in Shiganshina, which looked Medieval or early Renaissance level of development. And then they mention "Chemistry Major," which suggests some kind of College or University system. All this is in the Inner Wall rings. Some much needed world-building about life within the walls, not just the Scout Regiment and fighting Titans.
Later eps. in S4 seem to suggest to me that Mikasa was actually kind of "bouncing" through alternate realities, alternatives she was making/wishing for in order to be with/stay with Eren. The "How" of that will also be answered (or at least strongly suggested) in later eps. in S4.

This is the perfect time to watch the lost girls OVAs, just take note of Mikasa's last sentence where she says that she will always be on Eren's side. That phrase is echoed in the wildest part of S4

About the young age of the characters you should know that it's a common thing for editors to request an age change for the most important characters because teenagers are the main consumers of manga and they noticed that if the character is around the same age of the reader they get more popular, so probably this is also the case
If you think about it a nation doesn't want an army made of teenagers who aren't mentally and physically at their peak, you want people who are at least 18, better if over 20, so probably Eren and friends in the mind of the mangaka were adults or at least a bit older when they join the scouts
This is pure speculation but it's so common that I wouldn't be surprised
