I finish my ems classes next week, it was honestly a fun ride, the number 1 thing that helped me was working in groups. Out entire class made a group chat as soon the course started, we all reviewed stuff with eachother, practiced with each other, etc. I started in February, and I joined the class last minute and was the only student on the waitlist that was accepted, so I'm so shocked to finally see it done. I completely agree with all your tips, especially time management, it's possible to do other stuff with it, but you have to stay organized. I had a part time job, working on my associates, and also doing this class at the same time, and still found time for my own stuff like weightlifting and jiu jitsu, it was rough but I got through and I'm glad I did cause my course actually had some ambulance companies do a recruiting week and I got hired on the spot, so once I get my certificates, so my national, ambulance, hazmat, etc. Which they'll help me on, I can start training with them, and the company happens to be the company that responded when my mom had a stroke, so I'm glad I'll be working with them. All of this before my 19th bday which is sick too. Never thought I'd be able to finish, the stress was real at some points. But I finished my last practical last week, 2 weeks before the deadline, so my last 2 weeks of class are just going through drills and scenarios with students who already finished aswell

I'm re-starting medic school this week. Yes I failed out my first time. My tips I've learned from my mistakes and experience:
    1. STUDY, I was always a good student and school always came easy for me, so I never learned good study habits because I didn't need to. This was my big problem.
    2. Other people have said it here, work with your class, one thing I'm already setting up with the classmates I already know is a study group where we are going over the material. One person may become the cardiac king have that person help you with cardiac and they may struggle with respiratory that you may be good at. This isn't a competition, try to help make sure your class has a 100% pass rate.
    3. Be on time to class at the minimum. Some classes won't start until everyone is there, if your late your not only hindering yourself, you can be hindering your class as a whole. (this wasn't me but other people in my class, it caused issues)
    4. This is for my fellow medic students who are on a P-B box, that person who you spend half your week with, yea use their knowledge. I learned a ton of cardiology from one partner, a different partner I've had was great a respiratory. Don't be afraid to ask questions, watch them and how they do their job. This also goes for the medic who you know that may not be the best medic, learn from their mistakes.
    5. This is for everyone, whether you're a basic student doing their ride outs, the para-maybe intern, or even after you finish and get hired, jump in on calls. The best way to learn on this job is doing it, don't be scared (as I was as a baby EMT) your preceptors (for the students) won't steer you in the wrong direction.
I hope my mistakes and failures helps others out there. Keep trying to learn as much as you can. As my class kept saying throughout "just keep swimming"

I am in EMTB school right now and based on what I've experienced so far, you are spot on about the high volume of information. The class throws a LOT at you in a very short amount of time. I have the highest grade in my class and it's only an 88%. The biggest issue that I'm having is balancing class with work, family, household chores, and still having enough time to study. They could easily extend the class by another 100 hours of class time.

@@christianalexander4010 thank you for the kind words! Honestly man the main advice I can give is just do NOT procrastinate. Like he said in the video, you’re going to be receiving a lot of information at once. It might be overwhelming and more than what you’re used to, but you can do it. I was never a fan of school and I thought it was so difficult but even I passed. Don’t procrastinate and make your homework a priority. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and try to be as engaged as possible. Also when you finish the program, take the NREMT right away. It’s the national test to get your license in your state, so you can legally practice. It’s separate from the school (at least it was in my state). Good luck and don’t give up!

In my personal experience, about 40% of the paramedic class I attended failed out due to their basic academic limitations. They simply weren't capable of assimilating the information at the rate in which it was being presented.

Got a full time job now , they gave me 3 years to become a paramedic . I’m only a basic . Should I go back and study basic ?

Is there a perk for doing both EMT and paramedic school? Or is doing one enough? I’m doing my research because I would like to pursue a career as a firefighter.

I just finished EMT school and I was told wait a few years until you get a good understanding about BLS before considering paramedic school. How long do you think I should wait before applying for paramedic school?

Hey Dwight, good question. I would go into paramedic ASAP. You’ll build on everything you learn from EMT school and you’ll have no problem getting any experience. If you want to be a medic do it ASAP

Hey so i'm going to school soon to get my associates in Fire Science and I need to take electives alongside it, obviously haha. Arrest and firearms is one of the choices, should i take it or no

Do you think going through medic school on your own dime is different if you’re going through medic school paid for and being paid as a ff?
