i went to france recently with my high school french class and one of my friends showed me this song on the plane ride there. little did i know that was basically all the french i really needed to survive a week in france
My French teacher showed us this and the lyric sheet, instead of translating (like we were supposed to) we starting singing (screaming) at the top of our lungs once she put it on as background music and the class next door told us to shut up. It was fun.
My French teacher plays this for us EVERY MORNING as we enter the classroom, it's the funniest thing. I think she believes that it's a song made by those people who write books for new French speakers, because she hasn't laughed at it yet.
Well that just proves that Flight of the Conchords should be shown in classrooms all over the world as a matter of teaching children about life in different parts of the world, such as France or New Zealand!
+Hezekiah Ramirez this one is the most silly for me, all it takes is one typo and the sentence doesn't make any sense: it should be omelette AU fromage. Then you're talking !
I listened to this without knowing any bit of French a couple years back, and I thought "fuck, this sounds so professional." After almost a full year of French class, finally understanding this cracks me up.
Somehow they manage to make basic French sound sexy. Although I was introduced to this in my high school French class and for some reason I thought they were French for awhile
@PichalBernd I think If you look them up, you will see that they are New Zealanders :) I am from new zealand and we are very proud of Brett and Jemaine!
@PichalBernd I just meant that many more Canadians understand French compared to Americans. We have a big portion of the country that only speaks French. Thats all. So I thought I'd put this up to help out those who don't understand any French at all. Didn't mean you single you Americans out.
@weirdbeer I'm an American that grew up in North Bay Ontario and understand completely. I was taught French from 2nd grade up. This video makes me laugh my butt off. 'Gerard Depardieu?.."
@torto If you wanna go for the strictly etymological meaning, that's what it used to mean, yes. It still translates to "there" in the demonstrative and interjectional senses. e.g. "Voilà! La conversation dans le parc." (sic) > "There! The conversation in the park." (I'm translating exactly as it was said, of course they got a few things wrong in the song. I'm personally still enjoy it.)

Hello my small foreign currency exchange office...when my french friend first heard that line he almost died from laughing too hard.

Or how it's not good to have Too Many Dicks On The Dance Floor
I'm french and I speak Foux du fafa.
I laughed so hard when they all asked each other "ca va?) because I'm taking French and I finally could actually make out words in this!
Someone make me stop. I've watched this like 30 times in the past two days.
twelve years later and i'm trapped in here with you.
please pass the baguette.
You should rewatch it.
T he only phrase I didn't know from this song when i first heard it on the show was the whole foreign currency office thing, that was pretty funny.
Andy Cico Yeah, get it? Because he's mixing up various terms in French he heard because he doesn't actually know French
SpunkySkunk347 I knew that was the joke
LOL ! Needed the english translation to actually get he says "Bonjour mon petit bureau de change"
Dude come on, french it up !
Omelette du fromage.

As an American French student I found this song exceedingly funny even without subs
Just rewatched season 1 of FotC I completely forgot how hilarious this song is, hadn't watched it in so long totally forgot about it haha.
0:12 The strangest, and yet most awesome way to introduce a passport.
My french teacher showed us this video and we were like screaming it in class 😂

@PichalBernd they are from New Zealand
That is, Strangers with Candy, level silly. 😂
at second 17, I think it's "je reve de partir " instead of "Gerard Depardieu"....n'est-ce pas?
Still can’t understand why my high school French 2 teacher didn’t see this as education worthy of showing the whole class circa 2007 😂
@weirdbeer I'm an American that grew up in North Bay Ontario and understand completely. I was taught French from 2nd grade up. This video makes me laugh my butt off. 'Gerard Depardieu?.."
Those subtitles were actually really good.

Such help thanks
Well, now I know that Jacques Cousteau means "fish" in french!
lmao ... merci!
I think Foux de Fa Fa should be coined as a legit French term.
I love how both of my high school french teachers have shown us this. 0_0
All of the comments are filled up with variants of "my french teacher showed us this in class". For the record, mine did too
After much nagging I got my teacher to agree to play this in class!
this makes me wanna learn French even though it seems complicated... well I know Spanish and Italian it shouldn't be soo hard then right?
Gerard Depardieu? Not Je rêve de partir?
