Hi Beth!! First off your lasagna is simply beautiful! Secondly I am from Rome and I guarantee you no one here uses ricotta. I'm so glad you used bechamel 😍
No joke... my goal is to be more like Beth. I wish she were my actual friend. Lol. Beth you're so inspiring to someone like me who is an introvert and social inept. You give me hope and help me lose the stress. God bless you woman!
Hi Beth!! I recently moved from Chile to Canada and yesterday I hosted a dinner for some friends for the first time since I got here a little over a month ago. I can't tell you how nervous I was: new electric stove v/s my old gas one, different ingredients, PhD student with little time to shop etc etc. Anyways, this recipe was A HIT. Everyone loved it and I managed to entertained a little like you. Thank you so much for all the love and dedication you put in your food.
For me, & I am non-Italian lasagne adorer, it’s not a true lasagne without ricotta. Seasoning the ricotta is one of the most treasured activities in making a lasagne from scratch: you add 2-3 excellent, free range, organic eggs; fresh flat-leafed parsley leaves, finely chopped or minced; & ground fresh black peppercorns & good salt. I suppose you could add different spices - I love the idea you have of adding fresh thyme & fennel seeds to the sauce - but, up to now, I’ve relied solely on s&p, but special s&p. I am so happy to have found your show‼️ My family, on both sides, are French Huguenots & I know the 23rd Psalm in French by heart❣️I’m so impressed with your wonderful, conversational French❣️
Hi Beth! I was born and raised in Venice, and we do not put ricotta in our lasagna, just besciamella. However our besciamella is definitely thicker than yours and we cook the ragù for two to three hours :)
Hi, Beth! I'm Italian and I can say that we don't traditionally put ricotta cheese in lasagna. At least, my mom has always used bechamel sauce and I love it because it makes lasagna really creamy and delicious.
Hey beth :) I'm italian and where I live, I've never heard of a Lasagna recipe that has ricotta in it, but it might be different in some other parts of Italy! I always put besciamella in it so yeah I feel you :) really enjoy watching your videos, by the way, they're very inspiring xx
I have lived in Italy for 5 years and have found that it depends on the region. For people in a certain region the ricotta is a must. It's criminal not to do that. For some they use a creamy béchamel sauce.
Hi Beth, Barbara here, just recently found your web site and I have been enjoying it very much, so much so that I will tell you about a little secret for your meat sauce that an old Italian lady told me when I was first married. Put a slice of orange peel in your meat sauce whilst cooking it. It really does elevate it to another level. Fish it out before serving. ( I keep a slices of orange peel in the freezer ready for use) Sending you best wishes from the U.K. xxx ❤
Great recipe Beth ! Thank you so much for sharing! I know it's not original Italian but in Greece when we make lasagna we add bechamel sauce just like you do. The only difference is we add egg and cheese in it, and it's still delicious of course... So I guess there are many options to this recipe! ☺️
Hi Beth, yesterday mum told me that i have to find out what to cook for dinner... I really love traditional hungarian dishes, but they are so boring to me now since i am eating them week by week. So today i've just shown this recipe to my mom, and she told me that it looks so delicious, but she also said: " It doesnt look like a "ready in one hour" meal " but she promised that we will make it next weekend. I hope we will create a tradition too (if se wont forget it 😂)
I'm Australian & my late mother taught us to use Béchamel sauce but ours is a lot thicker & she also used sour cream mixed with other goodies just before the final lot of cheese, it's to die for! We have no Italian heritage in our family. It's also nice to be able to see each section of the lasagne and not have the béchamel sauce mixed in with the meat sauce, if that's going to happen then why go to the trouble of cooking it as no one will know it's there or how you lovingly prepared it? I still enjoyed watching how you made yours though Beth! I enjoy watching recipes we make being made a different way as another way might be tastier. Thank you for your recipe, if I can find the ingredients I'll give your recipe a go just to see how it tastes as there's no right or wrong way to cook, it's all just different😊
Beth, your Lasagna is amazing. Your recipe is very similar to own meat lasagna. This dish is a winner in my house and i always make it for an special ocassion. Happy sunday in LA, Patricia.
This looks amazing, Beth! I just love your space here on youTube! Please make a video with your husband or kids! I'd love to "meet" the family! Love from Idaho!
This looks like an amazingly delicious lasagne recipe! Thank you!! I'm Italian American and we always use ricotta when making lasagna. I never heard of a white sauce with lasagna before. Maybe different parts of Italy make the dish differently? My grandmother came from Minturno and my grandfather came from Bari.
Hi Beth, where did you buy the lasagna sheets? I've never those before but can't wait to try your recipe with them. Your recipes and videos are so lovely. My kids always want to watch them with me.
Hi Beth I'm Italian / Australian and I grew up with the typical Italian lasagna. Each region makes it differently, my mother doesn't add ricotta to her lasagna, but she makes her creamy besciamella Sauce ( as she calls it ) without fail. She used her typical 5 hr Italian bolognese sauce, and layers it just the same as you do and sori Kyle's some parmigiana Reggiano cheese over the sauce, layers and repeats. Your lasagna looks delicious. I'm so sure Vincenzo makes it differently too. 😊😬
Oh my 5 hr sauce! That sounds totally amazing! :) And yes curious to see Vincenzo's version. Do you know his channel? It's so great! So entertaining! :)
Hi Beth! I actually do my lasagna with bechamel....instead of ricotta because ricotta here in Panama is quite expensive and I dont like using cottage. Now, bechamel goes great with lasagna too. And its less time consuming and less expensive.
I agree with your Dad using ricotta cheese gives the lasagna richer flavor and creamier texture I used to do Bechamel sauce but I have switched to Ricotta instead and I am not Italian.
Where I come from, which is California, Ricotta is included in the Lasagna. However; that being said, I am all for trying something new. In fact, I often find that I like the new twist even better than the old tradition. I look forward to making this with the Bechamel.
I know my poor garden is so sad right now. California just has had such a bad drought the last few summers that come July/August it just a sad sight out there :( Hopefully this winter we will get more rain!
I'm married into a Sicilian/American family and they use ricotta. I thought bechamel sauce was used in Greek Pastitsio which is similar to lasagna. Either way... yummy 😋
I'm Italian (Sicilian/Calabrese) and my grandmother only used bechamel.. the ricotta is an Italian-American thing.. they don't use it in Naples, Italy where it originated

i'm italian and my mom makes lasagna every sunday (so tomorrow i'm gonna eat it yaasss) . you can use parmigiano spread on every layer and ...just a trick ..pour a little milk to the corners of the pan after you finish the lasagna before you put it in the oven and doing this the edges will not dry to much
so jealous! :D I really do miss these Sunday family meals, but now that I live in a new city, I have to make everything on my own and most of the time just for myself...so enjoy your lasagna tomorrow :)
yes dude . i can send a big lasagna for all of you...but you can instead follow beth's recipe which is very very close to the perfect italian lasagna one
Hi Beth! As an Italian living in Rome, I've never heard of ricotta traditionally being used, but I guess it can be used in regional or modern/lighter twists to a classic lasagna. Hope it helps! Keep up the good work, I love your recipes :)
Fascinating! It's so funny over here, especially with Italian American Immigrants it's a must-have. I wonder if that's because most of the American Immigrants came from the Southern parts of Italy, so maybe it's a Sicilian thing? This is the region my Dad's family is from. :)
I'm from Bologna where lasagne originated. Traditionally we use a bechamel sauce. So you got it absolutely right! In fact, I've never seen ricotta in lasagne here. I've also never seen an American use a bechamel in their lasagne, so props to you! :-)
Hi Beth! I was wondering if you had any advice as to where to find the fresh pasta sheets. I live in Columbus, Ohio, and I have not seen them in any of our main grocery stores. I'm excited to try the recipe, so hoping I can find them soon. (And while I know you (and I) prefer the fresh pasta, is there a way to adapt it to the no-bake dry variety?)
Oh my goodness!!! To satisfy my hub and 14 yr old son, I used the bechamel WITH some ricotta cheese and they went CRAZY!!! I never knew that bechamel could make such a difference! Never making lasagne any other way.
Ricotta is what I'm used to, and it's much different from béchamel. Although I've never tried bechamel. So I think it's more traditional to use ricotta, and maybe mozzarella too.
This looks amazing! I've always used ricotta, but my husband doesn't care for it. Can't wait to try out your recipe! Where did you find the fresh noodles?
Oh sure you can find them in the refrigerated section of most grocery stores by the fresh pasta. I got mine at Whole Foods. They also make a really great Gluten Free Variety Too! It's this company. They are great!! www.rpspasta.com/food-service-pasta/fresh-rolled-gluten-free-pasta/gluten-free-lasagna-sheets/

Hey Beth, I cant find those fresh Lasagna sheets. Do you have a brand that you like? Do you buy it in the bakery/produce section of the grocery store?!
+Misty Myler oh sure I get them at whole foods in the refrigerated fresh pasta section this is brand I use its actually gluten free but you would never know the difference! They are awesome! www.rpspasta.com/food-service-pasta/fresh-rolled-gluten-free-pasta/gluten-free-lasagna-sheets/
Hi can I make this the day before? How would that work? Could I do the meat sauce and the cheese sauce and place them in separate containers in the fridge? Then heat them both up the next day and layer the Lasagna and bake?
Bulk spices are the way to go! Check the bulk section at your grocery store. Spices are way, way cheaper in bulk. What you're really paying for is the nice little spice jar packaging. The same goes for yeast, I can fill up my old yeast jar for $1.50, if I bought a new jar it would cost me about $5! I would bet you could get the bulk fennel seeds for at least 50% less than the jar price. I just keep mine in refillable spice jars or small mason jars.
Great question! I think the flavor is better personally. A bit lighter not as acidic. It also adds a kind of sweetness to it as well. But really you could use either wine. Funny that's another point my dad and I debate, he always asks me the same question! LOL! Enjoy!
Hi Beth I really love your lasagna recipe, but I have a special question. This Christmas we want to try out how to make a traditional french dessert, the croqembouche. Don't you plan to make a video about how to make croqembouche? :)
Ahh the croqembouche :) So festive! That was our wedding cake when we were married in France :) Love it. I'm not doing it this year, probably next. Since this year I must share my Buche de Noel Recipe, another show stopper of a French Dessert. It will be in early december so you may want to wait and see? Ha! But either one would really be great!
In that case i have to wait.. but i am looking forward to that other recipe. I just had to ask you because that's my dream to try out croqembouche but it is so diffucult to make as far as i know and it would make it easier to see how to do it
It's really a seasonal thing, what I love to eat during certain times of year. The recipes that end up on the channel are the ones that mean most to my family and I. Ones that we make all the time or new ones I have developed that I think others would enjoy. But yes I do plan it out a few weeks in advance :)
Hi Beth!! First off your lasagna is simply beautiful! Secondly I am from Rome and I guarantee you no one here uses ricotta. I'm so glad you used bechamel 😍
Emma's Goodies
Location Lasagna di Canrnevale does include ricotta.
No joke... my goal is to be more like Beth. I wish she were my actual friend. Lol. Beth you're so inspiring to someone like me who is an introvert and social inept. You give me hope and help me lose the stress. God bless you woman!
Hi, you seem pretty at ease in this comment! God bless you and be encouraged no matter what! ❤
Oh she is riggggght ! When I’m down or happy , I watch a Beth video . I wish she was my actual friend too! ❤️

Anch'io l'ho sempre mangiata solo con la besciamella.
I like the idea of the fresh lasagne sheets. I never knew those existed. Time to go on the hunt. Looks so delicious.
Thanx Beth out of all the lasagna recipe this is the only one that tast good and looks amazing
Beth, thank you! One more time!
I love your recipes and your enthusiasm!
Made this recipe for my vegetarian daughter, substituting the meat for quorn mince. It was delicious. Thank you x

Aww thanks Jaxon :) So glad you found me and enjoy the videos WELCOME! :)
I'm watching your video when I saw a notification!!!

I think your recipes are explained so easy that I will try your 3 puff pastry buns. Thank you very much.
I actually LOVE this recipe because I can’t digest ricotta cheese very well so I prefer this recipe and it works for me
Thanks for sharing Beth. I never heard lasagna with bechamel sauce before can't wait to try it
I have lived in Italy for 5 years and have found that it depends on the region. For people in a certain region the ricotta is a must. It's criminal not to do that. For some they use a creamy béchamel sauce.
Yep
YAY! I've been waiting for this recipe 😋 I cooked it tonight and it was just perfection 👌🏼 Thank you Beth ❤️
I'm making this today! thanks Beth you are an amazing chef!
It's our today lunch. Very easy, quick and above all that my kids like it.

I want to have this dinner now and it's not even a Sunday. Ha. Bravo!
I made this recipe (pork sausage substituted with Italian chicken sausage). It was delicious!!!

Hi Beth, where did you buy the lasagna sheets? I've never those before but can't wait to try your recipe with them. Your recipes and videos are so lovely. My kids always want to watch them with me.
With all your recipes on your tube, you have to put them in a cookbook ❤️😊
Not sure it's traditional. But Ricotta cheese is a must for me and my family

Entertaining With Beth yes I know him and he knows me, great man he is 🙂
The sauce is a nice idea especially for reducing the effects of lactose intolerant eaters.
Hi Beth! I actually do my lasagna with bechamel....instead of ricotta because ricotta here in Panama is quite expensive and I dont like using cottage. Now, bechamel goes great with lasagna too. And its less time consuming and less expensive.

Is looking delicious! 🍷 Lovely!
lasana lovvvvvvvvve!!😀thank you for your effort
Yes on the ricotta!! However, I might try your way with the bechamel just to see how much I like it.
Ricotta is amazing. I don't leave it out because it's the best part!
love the recipe! i wanted to ask if I can substitute the meat with mushrooms or ground turkey meat?
Oh sure that would be great too! :) Enjoy!
You don't have to ask you can just do that.
Love your channel Beth! Please do another gardening video soon :)
I know my poor garden is so sad right now. California just has had such a bad drought the last few summers that come July/August it just a sad sight out there :( Hopefully this winter we will get more rain!
why not use ricotta cheese WITH a bechamel sauce?
I'm married into a Sicilian/American family and they use ricotta. I thought bechamel sauce was used in Greek Pastitsio which is similar to lasagna. Either way... yummy 😋
Growing up my mom always used ricotta but I hated it!! Now when I make my own I sub cottage cheese for the ricotta and I love it so much more!!!
Same in my household. Although if I can and have the extra time, I like to drain the cottage cheese overnight to get ride of the extra liquid.
I'm Italian (Sicilian/Calabrese) and my grandmother only used bechamel.. the ricotta is an Italian-American thing.. they don't use it in Naples, Italy where it originated

I love that you can also make this ahead of time and it's one dish that will feed 12 people! HA! That's the best part :) Have a great weekend Byron!

Hi beth! When I lived in Sicily I only heard of using béchamel for lasagne. :)
So funny and interesting. I think it must be an Italian Immigrant-American thing? Thanks for sharing! I've always wanted to travel to Sicily :)
that looks yum..can you please tell me which brand is the large ceramic pot you are using??? thank you :)
I like bechamel sauce as well 😉
She reminds me so much of Monica from friends!!! :)
Oh my goodness!!! To satisfy my hub and 14 yr old son, I used the bechamel WITH some ricotta cheese and they went CRAZY!!! I never knew that bechamel could make such a difference! Never making lasagne any other way.
I know right?! It's so good that way! It's really the BEST! LOL! I'm so glad you all enjoyed it too!
Hi,I'm thinking about hosting a fall brunch.Can u make a video/menu?Thank u!😊
Ricotta is what I'm used to, and it's much different from béchamel. Although I've never tried bechamel. So I think it's more traditional to use ricotta, and maybe mozzarella too.
I'm currently without an oven. 😢 Do you think I could make this in a slow cooker?
Omg Beth, your lasagna recipe is identical to mine (I also do it with bechamel sauce) and everyone loves my lasagna! haha :-*
This looks amazing! I've always used ricotta, but my husband doesn't care for it. Can't wait to try out your recipe! Where did you find the fresh noodles?

Thank you so much! Very helpful! 👍🏻 enjoy the rest of your weekend!
in love the olive oil bottle. where did you get it from
Oh sure I found it at Clos Plus World Market :) It's so handy!
I love the bechamel sauce version best.
Right?! Me too!
I agree with your father about the ricotta.
Where can I find fresh lasagna noodles? I don't live in A tiny town but I've never seen those!

I love your videos
Nice!
It looks so lovely. I can’t eat cheese unfortunately
never been this early...anyway great recipe. I love lasagna!
My husband's Italian great-grandmother used ricotta in her lasagna. I have not heard of using bechamel before.
I was at the grocery store yesterday asking myself if you had a lasagna recipe. This is weird. Haha
Ha! Perfect timing! Ask and you shall receive LOL! :) Enjoy!
Entertaining With Beth

I would bet you could get the bulk fennel seeds for at least 50% less than the jar price. I just keep mine in refillable spice jars or small mason jars.
Such a great idea! And SO true! Thanks for sharing your great tip!
Hey Beth :) I was wondering whether there was a reason you used white wine instead of red.
I just had to ask you because that's my dream to try out croqembouche but it is so diffucult to make as far as i know and it would make it easier to see how to do it
And another question: have you got a list with recipes you will make in your videos or it's just a random choice?
It's really a seasonal thing, what I love to eat during certain times of year. The recipes that end up on the channel are the ones that mean most to my family and I. Ones that we make all the time or new ones I have developed that I think others would enjoy. But yes I do plan it out a few weeks in advance :)
This is the most resembling italian based lasagna recipe I saw XD Not everyone uses ricotta cheese, it becomes reeeeally heavy. And I'm from Naples.
I bet your house smells amazing after cooking that!
Cool
what camera do you use? ur videos are amazing
Aww thanks :) I use the Canons T31 and Cannon T5i, but really it's my camera crew that makes it look so good, they're the amazing part! :) xx
You said that if you don't drink you can substitute the white wine, but doesn't the alcohol usually burn off when you're cooking it?
Not all but most.
