      Feedback to VW as it is marked Ad :-) Many people like me buy one if they offer 22kw AC charger on board. It makes very big difference in Europe with lot of public an free 22kw chargers. Just like i want a better wifi router to match my broadband connection. It's like wasting the 22kw Chargers by being able to use only 11kw. Not that logical.

      You should realize how shallow and image-fixated the average customer is. To most people Touch-screens = Expensive High tech = High status = something they can show off discretely. Buttons look old and outdated to the average non-car-person.
      I took a course in product psychology. Most people (often subconsciously) choose the product that increases their perceived social status. Usually this means designing something to look expensive, not necessarily to look good. This explains a lot of modern SUV-design. Ugly and brash, but looks very expensive (Porsche Cayenne for example).
      That is the real reason why touch screens are so popular.

    • @The_Jimrod
      @The_Jimrod 3 года назад +11

      @@videosforcatsanddogs214 It's a shame VW forgot that on the outside - where the "budget" VW brand, Skoda, have done a FAR better job with their Enyaq than this iD4 on the same platform...

    • @emiliospowerballer1441
      @emiliospowerballer1441 3 года назад +8

      @@videosforcatsanddogs214 i get your point but i disagree.
      Touch screen technology is part of our life today, tablets, mobile phones, tvs or laptops. It has nothing to do with looking fancy i believe. Most cars look fancy and expensive today. modern car design is very eye catching. a small hatch can look and feel sporty even with 90hp. Btw i dont think the Cayenne is an ugly car by any standards.
      Personally, i dont mind buttons nor touch screens on a car. I care less about a cars technological features but rather its practicality. How it looks and whats inside is irrelevant for me, for as long as its moderately fast with fair fuel economy, im a happy guy. Thats why i just bought a Hyundai I30N, it has everything i need.
      im certain that people today buy SUVs only because its a trend that people blindly tend to follow, nothing more nothing less. A small hatch can do the job of carrying a family of 4, mom dad and 2 children. i dont believe touch screens are popular, its the norm today. this is where technology is going towards. there is nothing wrong with that, everything is becoming better and faster. im fine with buttons and touch screens, and im mature enough not to compain about such details.
      lastly, theres a good reason why certain cars are relatively expensive, and its mostly about their target market rather than looking fancy or having cool technological features. Get into a Porsche and make a rough estimate just from what you see how much it would cost. start with basic features, leather, engine, car modes, comfort, speed, accelleration, power etc. then look at the people driving them, and ask your self what do they want in a car. they certainly all of the above in one. no wonder a porsche starts at 60k, well at least in my country.

    • @dag1704
      @dag1704 3 года назад +9

      I would explain it with 2 things.
      First, we have the consumer, wanting the car to look trendy and modern. Look at Tesla, they started it, now it is a trend, who does not follow, looses appeal and approval. Just remember 10 years ago, when everyone complained, that cars had to many buttons. Somehow you need to control the cars functionalities.
      Secondly, a touchscreen enables the car manufacturer, to bring new features and updates to the car. It is possible, to change the internal OS, to make the UX better, to bring completely new features, that weren't even planned, as the car was in development. Again, Tesla started it, everyone has to follow. Tesla can update the autopilot and bring new features to the car, if you can't do it as a manufacturer, you will always be at a grave disadvantage.

    • @boysdell
      @boysdell 3 года назад +5

      All cars need a screen now anyway for all the functions and not having buttons saves money (and makes it easier to make interior look minimalist and modern) TBH I don't find it much of a problem as most of what I use daily I can operate with steering wheel buttons anyway

    Can anyone tell me whether the ID 4 has climate control options for when parked, like Tesla's Dog and Camping modes? I am leaning towards buying an ID 4 over a Tesla, but if I can't keep the interior a constant temperature for hours at a time while parked, it will be a deal breaker for me.

    Driving 3 months id3 and have had once a software issue which actually happens when trying to push many things at the same time by accident which I see could happen especially in the beginning when you want to try everything. After a few weeks basically like us most people just turn on radio, use navigation (or not even that close home) and drive. Anyway VW promised to have a new software update early next year for free and gave free charging until the end of the year. Overall 10-, huge fun and easy to drive.

    Regarding the range and living in Finland, I would not say that few plus degrees is anywhere near the worst wheather yet for an electric car 😏 We’ve had -30c degrees recently here in middle Finland and that combined with generally long distances, outside Helsinki region, it remains to be seen when electrical cars (and with which future battery technology) become truely an option also here...
    It is also interesting to witness how fast people forget the VW’s diesel-gate...
    So driving still happily with 100% renewable Neste MyDiesel & Peugeot 508 RXH, a +1000km range with basically no fossil emissions at all.
    Greetings from Finland

    I have always like VWs, But...there should be always old style buttons for the most important functions and also for some shortcut buttons to clear the touch screen user interface. These kind of clean cockpits just does not work well no matter what is the manufacturer. Here and also many other new car models the new style go over the usability.

    What's funny is that VWAG secret shopped their many dealers and very few dealers, if any, were recommending the battery electric VW ID. It's going to be a hard sell unless they go to direct sales to consumers or provide huge incentives for dealers to recommend them. It's going to be a long road to sales. Driving starts at 20:00 to save your time. ID4, VWs mea culpa for " clean diesel."
    As to regeneration, even the Chevy Bolt has adjustable regen for one foot driving.

    I think you are really unbiased in your reviews and that’s in the end what’s valuable for us viewers.
    Hopefully VW can get there with the software, charging network etc. With their budget it should be doable and competition (read Tesla) will have the challenge to catch up with engineering capabilities of the likes of VW. What sticks out a bit with the ID4 is the underwhelming efficiency compared to the ID3, which seems to be quite efficient in comparison. Wonder what that’s all about?

    Top marks for VW for getting on with the transition to EV - not that they had much choice after diesel-gate! I drove an ID.3 last week. I liked the ride quality and refinement. However, VW need to improve the efficiency and performance of their electric drive train. The ID.3 is noticeably dull and inefficient compared to the BMW i3 (my current car). The i3 is let down by its hard ride quality. The ID.3 is let down by just 3 miles/kwh efficiency and a lack of zip compared the i3. ID.4 looks great, so will be keen to try one in the near future.

    @autogefühl In Denmark the price of an Octavia Combi Hybrid Plus (including complete travel assist and some other extra equipment) is about the same price as the ID4 77kwh non-max edition. My question is, besides the obvious differences (hybrid versus full electric and wagon vs SUV) what is the biggest differences between the two vehicles? Are the rear leg room less in the ID4? Noise level? Driving dynamics? Suspension and comfort? Thanks

    Tomas, great review as always. I have a question, regarding all EV's. When we purchase an EV, what are the servicing costs involved? Also, what does a service include on an EV? Do you know? I'm curious to know if the price of servicing is broadly similar to the cost of a service on a petrol or diesel vehicle. Maybe you could ask the manufacturers or dealers this question?
