Fully agree. Things you need to operate while driving should be controlled by kinetic physical/mechanical controls that you can reach for and operate confidently by touch and muscle memory, with minimal diverted attention from driving. We really need to stop embracing the touch-screen meta as the be-all human interface. It's good for a lot of things but driving is not one of them. Form should follow function.

Beginning to come round to EV's but all that tech scares me, why can't conventional switches and dials be used? I always like to be in control of a car and responsible for any mistakes or errors of judgement. Just as well I have not renewed my licence when it expired last September so I won't ever be driving one.
The idea being conventional switches and dials need materials, normally outside suppliers, individual wiring, pre assembly, all of which costs money and time. Hence screens.
@M Bacon You do realise they don't have exhausts or a propshaft slung under the car...... Where the batteries are? That'll be the same 4-6" height the batteries use for the exhaust, and no transmission tunnel taking up space inside. Nice try, fail.

Excellent review, as usual. Getting very tired of another channel's style of pushing the EV message. (You know 'fully' well who I mean; guilty as 'charged'.) This is far more mature and not paranoid. I agree too re' autopilot; just because it can be made doesn't mean it should be. Some fabulous EV's appearing now and good to see Nissan producing a quality model that will not be, presumably, for the Sheep.
Completely agree. The estates just don't sell as well, despite driving better than SUVs. The only really appealing EV estate so far is the VW Space Vizzion and that's just a concept at the moment.
I agree, I am looking for an alternative to the PHEV BMW X5 40e. The obvious choice is the Tesla Model Y but the sloping back hatch wastes a lot of space in the boot.
Thanks for the video, and for keeping the language clean. If this standard is maintained, Mother-in-Law will approve, and you'l gain another subscriber! Too many channels forget to keep things family-friendly. The Ariya looks and sounds interesting. Have Nissan confirmed that entry-level price yet? If that £37k is true, then it avoids the luxury car tax elegantly, unlike the Tesla Model 3, which starts at just above the tax threshold.
I am retired and appreciate the raised, easy to enter and exit plus shear quality of my 2.0l petrol BMW X1 m2 and wouldn't mind trying an iD4 in a year or so (if I won the lottery) but the ugly, bulky high nose of this Nissan EV leaves me stone cold. The make would take me a lot of persuading, even if it will be made in UK. If it were to be very keenly priced and with a Hyundai length of warranty, perhaps I'd try it, but against The latest Hyundai, Kia and iD4/Skoda humm.
How is The Aria’s Trip planner related to Availability of charging Stations along the Way? We must know where to stop and Charge in relationship with the Next Charger and weather or not they are actively working or where the Super Chargers are. How much time between chargers and how much percentage of Battery you need to reach the next Charger that is 1. Fully Operational 2. If it has super Charging or less 3. If a space is available. These things must be addressed. I will not spend another $40 plus thousand on a car that. Can’t plan me safely when I need to go on an extreme road trip across country to see family for the Holidays 1 car must be able to be the only car.
I just cannot explain to my self, why Nissan leaf 🍂 needs to be so ugly? Nissan should check their design department and re-design it. Ariya is ok but the leaf, well.....
Still a lot of bulk in the dashboard for a car where all that is supposed to be moved out though. First thing I'd do with the new space is offer the option of a centre seat in the front.

We have an e-Niro (it's a brilliant BEV) and our last car was an old Qashqai. I'm very interested to see how the Ariya turns out to be. Quality, reliability, size, true range, price. It's a very delicate balance that the e-Niro hits better than anything else today in my view. Maybe Nissan will pull it off also - and it'd be very interesting as it's bigger and charges faster - but can't compromise on anything else the e-Niro delivers on so well.
E-Niro is a fine EV, as is the Soul. This is larger than those, but also feels more luxurious. Who can say if the Nissan drivetrain is better than the Korean stuff. Thanks for the comment. Let me know if you hop into an Ariya after the Niro.
Very impressed, this could well be my next car, although the Alexia thing & a potential lack of feel when trying to use the buttons, could compromise the deal and I couldn't see anywhere to place cups or my phone. The flat boot floor is always useful, but I hope that the charge cable stowage is not below the boot floor - a big no no as you can have difficulty retrieving it when the boot is full.
Really like Johnny's laid back but informative delivery style. I also like his attention to design elements, which a lot of car reviewers shy away from.
I would be very tempted by this, but with no pricing yet, the Mach E is on sale now, and the BMW i4 coming out it would have been nice to know its cost so I could potentially delay my choice

My exes leaf had over 200,000kms and the battery still covered over 100km doing stop start city driving. Nissan are not going to rush to spend millions on new batts for 7,8,9 year old vehicles.
@@Flying_GC your account seems scammy your not from nissan are you ? that be right a video about nissan getting monitored by nissan and then defending themselves, we cannot trust the internet or Legacy automakers they just full of it.
Make it under 30k and people will buy it over Tesla.
If not, then it will just sell, wherever Tesla is not available.
Its a pretty big world out there and you might be surprised to learn that there are people out there that have no interest in owning a Tesla whatsoever.
I would buy the Ariya over any Tesla at the same price, from the video you can tell this Nissan has way better finish quality that the plastic interior of the tesla, and lets not even talk about the gaps on the panels of tesla cars.
@@Ivan.Nismo0018 I'm not sure the gap problem is as big as it was but either way the style on the Tesla cars just isn't for me. This, the ioniq 5, and the Honda e beat out every Tesla on design alone
Haptic buttons, no no no.
It’s hard enough turning on my Samsung tv with those, let alone trying to fiddle with the ac while driving!
It kind of feels like we're waiting for somebody to come along and introduce real buttons as a premium or safety feature.
I never understand this comment. 21c and auto. Never touch my HVAC, ever.

I feel cars are getting so much electrics and tech in them like smartphones, but how long do we keep them and how long will manufacturers support all this tech ?..
This is a genuinely interesting and fresh design! It’s cutting edge and so well thought out and nowhere near as generic and tedious like the Qashqai. It looks sharp like a Lexus! The dash is really impressive and clean. I too can’t stand autonomous driving and love your truthfulness in saying you are not interested!
A really great video Jonny and you definitely have the edge and really one to one presentation skill. Keep them coming!

The Qashqai is an old design now- it wasn’t initially; it was widely credited as starting the crossover trend.
Loved your presentation on this Jonny. Looks very good, no doubt the diesel dinosaurs will hate it. Shame it's going to be priced such that most people will not be able to afford it.
Analogue notebooks are sadly underrated.
Tapping on a screen does not replace jotting stuff down!
I couldn't get mine to turn on. :(
Plus, complete compatibility with any model of Pencil from any manufacturer.
@@darwiniandude - Compatibility with any pencil manufacturer is great and all, but how does one expand the analogue notebook's storage when it runs out?
Pencils as well.
Beginning to come round to EV's but all that tech scares me, why can't conventional switches and dials be used? As for self driving cars, that is scary, who will be held to account in a collision, yes I know that is technically impossible but the impossible does happen.
The Interior is lightyears ahead of the Leaf
Nope it has analogue buttons you can find without looking away from the road
Jonny's voice is so soothing. Best unintentional ASMR channel for me.
The interior is a zen garden!
These EVs are going to be so much more attractive than cramped gas cars
@M Bacon
You do realise they don't have exhausts or a propshaft slung under the car...... Where the batteries are? That'll be the same 4-6" height the batteries use for the exhaust, and no transmission tunnel taking up space inside.
Nice try, fail.
Most enjoyable car reviewer out there. Genuine, no ego, eclectic, questionable taste in shirts. Don't go changin!
I wish Nissan would be brave enough to move away from the SUV format. I know it is what the marketing dept say everyone wants. I'm kind of hoping one of the manufactures shows as a better looking more efficient form factor. Great video Jonny!
Very nice... But needs to be affordable.... Our local Nissan Dealer in the village is very expensive so I wont hold my breath on cost... Great Video as always.. Honest opinion and not every thing to your taste...
EVs are still catching up, all these car manufacturers who didnt put in the effort are now playing catch up to Tesla. Once everyone has skin in the EV game we should start seeing more cheaper varieties of EVs in a few years. We just need more well off people buying the pricy models lol.
Are you talking total cost or just the purchase price? because if you aren't talking total cost, you might as well be comparing apples to coconuts
Gives me new hope in Nissans future, after years of not taking the Leaf and moving forward with its pioneering work and basically stand still they are finally doing what they should have done years ago. But Aryia will have a lot more competition worldwide now than the Leaf did then ...
Open the car door Alexia, Im afraid i cant do that Jonny.
This mission is too important
I want to get out Alexia, that's not going to happen jonny
Hahaha LuL Hal 9000 xD
I enjoyed your review, it was informative and also humorous. As a working Photojournalist in London sadly, I have to buy (LEASE) an E Vehicle. Disappointingly they are just far too expensive. Best car for me in terms of size is the SKODA Enyaq. Waiting to see Hyundai Ionoc5 and KIA EV6. As I mentioned earlier, these cars are are just too expensive KODA with a few extras which should be standard is circa £650.00 inc VAT per month, bonkers!
I’ve always loved your walk around style Johnny, one of the best out there. The right amount of personality/humour and technical information.
Car also looks good.
Excellent review, as usual. Getting very tired of another channel's style of pushing the EV message. (You know 'fully' well who I mean; guilty as 'charged'.)
This is far more mature and not paranoid.
I agree too re' autopilot; just because it can be made doesn't mean it should be.
Some fabulous EV's appearing now and good to see Nissan producing a quality model that will not be, presumably, for the Sheep.
Thanks Jonny, great looking EV from Nissan!
I just wish they would make the boot area more estate like. I don't get the cross-over coupe design thing.
Might get this to replace my Leaf sometime in the future when it's old enough to be reasonably cheap.
Love the high tech book of stats. No danger the battery will run out of charge there.
Great review. When affordable electric awd crossovers surpass 600 km range and sub 35 k price, I’m in. Until then we’re patiently waiting...
I love Jonny’s style. I always feel I have been educated and entertained. Nice work!
How is The Aria’s Trip planner related to Availability of charging Stations along the Way? We must know where to stop and Charge in relationship with the Next Charger and weather or not they are actively working or where the Super Chargers are.
How much time between chargers and how much percentage of Battery you need to reach the next Charger that is
1. Fully Operational
2. If it has super Charging or less
3. If a space is available.
These things must be addressed.
I will not spend another $40 plus thousand on a car that. Can’t plan me safely when I need to go on an extreme road trip across country to see family for the Holidays
1 car must be able to be the only car.
Excited to see them use the new platform for something a little smaller and cheaper!
I just cannot explain to my self, why Nissan leaf 🍂 needs to be so ugly? Nissan should check their design department and re-design it. Ariya is ok but the leaf, well.....
Moving the HVAC out if the cabin is a good idea and will probably become the norm in time.
That has also been the trick in the ID. family. So it’s no froot but more leg room and space for a AR HUD.
When the heater radiator leak you dont have to take the dash off, finally!!!
Still a lot of bulk in the dashboard for a car where all that is supposed to be moved out though. First thing I'd do with the new space is offer the option of a centre seat in the front.
I like the idea of not having to tear a dashboard apart to fix your HVAC!!

Mercedes EQC looks like melted block of ice cream against this.
Carwow is forecasting between 40k to 60k pounds.... "Expect to pay from around £40,000 to £45,000 for an entry-level two-wheel-drive 63kWh car and closer to £60,000 for a top-spec Performance model."
