@@zakiradi450 For the videos we do, the auto focus was not the best. It was good if you just needed it for eye AF, but when focusing on other things it was not the best. Also, the 30 minute time limit makes you feel so limited as you then start staring at the timer. It's great to not have to worry about that anymore! Also, 4K overheating was definitely an issue too.
Have a A7IV myself, tried with 35mm f/1.4, 55mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, 90mm f2.8 and there are definitely focus-issues. The camera is not permanently front- or back focusing, but even with Eye-AF and AF-C, the selection-algorithm fails. As soon as there are strong (often vertical) contrast areas, or lines the AF prefers to focus on those parts in the frame even with the green focus frame clearly being on the eye. So, the camera is dead sharp, but it "internally" selects wrong parts for adjusting rather than the one in the focus frame. Took some selfies on a tripod, focus clearly on the eye, but often "real internal" focus was on the the black and white hairs of my beard, sometimes back focusing, sometimes front focusing. Hairs distract the camera, but also gray lines on buildings, or vertical borders of doors or windows. It's clearly a flaw in the internal focus selection logic. Had lots of portraits with different very good lenses with slightly blurry eyes but only with this camera (others work fine with same lenses). Hope they come up with a firmware upgrade soon
As an a7siii user, and a plus 40 years in the business evf user; I find myself going from the screen to evf to confirm my image. So I'm thinking that the "bump up" of quality that evf provides is (for me...) essential. I know that doesn't square with your suggestion that the a7iv should theoretically have a higher pixel count for stills, but that, rolling shutter and better flip out screen does make what I do a reason to stick with the a7siii. However, I certainly might augment my next mirrorless "b" camera with the a7iv.
Sony should have stayed with 24MP and used the extra processing power for higher fps, larger buffer, uncropped 4k60p. That would have made this camera a future-proof all-rounder.
I mean... If Nikon can put 2x processors that are FASTER than the one in the a7IV, in a 1,899 EUR Z6ll (which by the way performs better as a photo camera in every way, shape and form - minus the Eye AF) then there was no reason for Sony not to put 2x BIONZ XR processors in the a7IV... They probably didn't do that because of chip shortage but still, kinda makes the camera not worth the 2,700 EUR. I mean, I still have one on preorder but I am VERY, VERY sure that we all got scammed price wise. You forgot to mention that if you use aps-c mode on the a74 it reduces the readout speed of the sensor to 10ms. Which basically removes rolling shutter. Just another one of those little things where if you know you’ll be panning a lot or filming like race cars or something, just switch it over to that mode and problem solved. Rolling shutter is like the number one argument that I hear about the a74 and it’s so annoying because it isn’t a real world problem. Like who shoots video while violently moving the camera all over the place. No one. Plus it’s performance is on par with every one of its competitors at the $2500 price point. I’m not spending over a grand more to get a little less wobble in violent panning shots. That would be stupid.
Focus bracketing for us hybrid shooters please! Not happy with my canon 90D video, I think the jump to the A7iii second hand for half the cost of the a7iv will offer the best value upgrade

Thanks for the video. A7siii makes filming so fun too, best camera ever. Really has no flaws haha just the 12mp but the photos still look awesome and you can just do screenshots of the videos and they look great too.
I love your attitude! I have the Sony a 73. It would be nice to move up to another camera, but hey… I’ve still got an incredible camera and don’t need to complain.
Nice review and new sub! Can I ask if you know if the audio is always in 24 bits recoding in 10 bits and how worse is the noise performance shooting in aps-c mode? If there is not much difference I would take this as a second hybrid camera and shoot most of the time in crop mode to have fast readout and not to have to change the focal length everytime I would need to go off speed. Thanks for your much appreciated feedback! 🙏🏻
Just use the new Sony 12-24mm f2.8 gm lens in 4k/60fps with the Sony a7iv otherwise if you shoot in 24p you get full frame. I tested this camera and lens in all shooting modes and it works absolutely amazing....
Sony a7iv overheats here in India during video recording at weddings. I have had several shutdowns in front of clients. I guess most of the RUclipsrs praising the a7iv must be living in cold climates and not shooting outdoors in the daylight and not for client work.
Solid bro ! Great vid . Do you think it’s worth to get for me , I shoot football games , mainly Flag . Usually Saturday and Sundays . The games last an hour , sometimes my high school games over 2… Could This camera handle that usage ? I know you mentioned the over heating and how to handle it but I just don’t wanna purchase this if it’s not good for sports videography , and tbh haven’t seen a lot of videos with this camera on that topic . Lmk thanks !
Cool video, some great points made here - way too much complaining out there. Happy b-day. Subbed I would like to hear your view on ND filters, run and gun shutter/aperture settings, etc. A video on this topic would be awesome. Thank you!
I have dilemma with the A7IV. Seems the bracketing and the delay timer is in the same options. How can i continuous bracket with a delay timer. My Canon has this. This for me is huge. I let the camera settle with the timer and then I take 3 bracketed continuous photos. Since I need to re align these photos I cant have movement when i release the shutter on the first photo.
Dude I don’t know how anyone complains about any camera. When I was filming 15 years ago non a canon GL2 I never thought we’d see anything this good. Now you have people who think blackmagic sucks (even though they forced part of the market into what we see today) or complain that some sony or any other cameras small flaws are something terrible. The reality is people like that don’t know what they’re doing and probably couldnt make a good image with an arri. You can make a great video or take great photos with a used t2i or a point and shoot. We have the greatest tech readily available and it’s affordable. You used to have to spend at least 100k to get what we have today (and it had less features). People need to focus on lighting techniques and audio instead of camera features (myself included). Image quality is like 1/4 of the battle.
Anyone notice that when you are shooting video on the A7 IV at either 24 or 30 FPS and you look through the finder and pan around it’s choppy? Hopefully it’s not just mine…
Edgar Flores re: choppiness I shoot EVERYTHING in 60fps and then EDIT in a 60fps Timeline. People it’s 2021 so do we really need to be shooting and editing at only 24fps because that’s what they had available in the 1930´s and 40 ‘s with their old metallic mechanical shutters?!!! We now have the technology to do much better. 24fps has too much choppiness and motion-blur as there are too few frames. Especially when panning or scenes with lots of motion you know what I’m talking about! I have done many tests with this and that is why I shoot at 60fps and EDIT at 60fps that way your audio is still in sync (nothing slo-mo everything is in real-time) but you have more frames to capture crisp, clear, sharp detail and movement in the scene and especially when you pan!! A little motion-blur is natural but fuzzy pixels and choppy motion when panning drives me crazy. Try it you’ll see….
@@Pfagnan it has nothing with it being 2022 and everything to do with me spending $4000 on a camera that’s choppy in the finder when you pan. I expect more when I spend that kind of money.
@@edgarflores6662 Absolutely! But you have to figure out why. I stated my own observations as to why and have resolved it for my own purposes and how I shoot video.
Hello from Kyiv Ukraine . I noticed many people complaining on RUclips about the crop in 4K60 and how Sony has let people down and that this is a deal breaker. Really??? If these people were truely photographers or videographers then they would know that this is not a problem at all and do the 1.5 math and just change your lens to compensate for the crop. We generally use 4K60 for B roll so I do not see what the problem is.
exactly. IMO they are just keyboard warriors who just want to stir shit up to pass the time. If they tried to say the same to a persons face, they wouldn't because they would be afraid of making a fool of themselves.
@Alfred S. Sikula entry level is probably the wrong word for it, too expensive for that bracket, but it is definitely the best all-rounder for first getting into full frame camera's.👌 On the topic of sports and the a9II I would have to agree with that guy however. the point to remember is that professional sports photographers make their money catching the perfect shot in what is a fraction of a second, sports are often very fast paced and unpredictable, as such those who specialize in that field choose top level camera's that boast very quick frame per second bursts. to them it doesn't matter if the sensor is only 20MegaPixels or so like with Canon, but that they can get 20-30 pictures in the 1 second of action means they have more opportunities to not miss the shot.✨📷😎 they also don't really get a choice as to where they stand either so this often comes with expensive, long lenses with as wide an aperture as is possible so they can stop down for depth and peak sharpness where necessary. they are exclusively photographers however and the presence or lack of 4k 60fps would be largely irrelevant to what they use their camera for. sports videographers would get the best camera for video and while I am not sure, IMO would find camera's that can shoot 4k in 120fps uncropped would be ideal for slow motion replays and would not get the a7IV either.🤔 they spend the money as an investment in being able to do their job, and so will look to the likes of the a7IV as a backup body rather than the prime tool of their trade. It's about buying the right camera for your intended use and expertise. most people who complain about the crop are not professionals who would have spent the money for a camera that suits their needs, they are just hobbyist/amateurs upset they can't get everything they want in an affordable package. Imagine if I made similar complaints when my budget was just £500 for my first DSLR the Nikon D3500, I would have been laughed out of the room for thinking I could get top-quality anything for that budget.😂 what does it mean for a 33MP sensor to shoot 4k60 without a crop: that is the camera's sensor and processor trying to process and down sample 7k footage into 4k footage, as there is no pixel binning or line skipping, and at the same time transferring and writing that 4K down sampled footage to a storage device. the camera for it's budget simply doesn't have the power for that, and since Sony don't like line skipping or pixel binning where they can avoid it, means a full readout from a reduced section of the sensor; after crop this means the camera needs only to down sample 4.2k footage to 4k and transfer/write it to memory which is much easier on the processor. and for those who say: "but the A1 has the same processor and can shoot 4k60" - yes, but it bins pixels from the sensor, and doesn't down sample them so it has less burden to cope with from the beginning.
I got mine today, sending it back tomorrow. Tested the video and it is terrible if you are moving around to follow a scene. The OM1 is much better, sigh. I 5 year old camera is better at video than a brand new one. Oh well, maybe the Fuji X H2 will be what I am looking for.
No, it doesn’t. Have shot for hours with it and it doesn’t even get warm while taking photos. Oddly enough, the only time the camera got warm for me was when I was setting it up and going through the menus for an hour. I’ve never even gotten the temp warning while shooting video.
The term run and gun is over used so often. In my opinion it only applies to photojournalist, some wedding photographers, fashion photographers and of course pro sports photographers, everyone else are regular paced shutter clickers.
Honestly, despite all the reviews, this thing is just a beast compared to my canon rebel T6 ☠️☠️ anything than that is better at this point lol I’ll gladly take that a7iv lol
Sony A7s line might be dead. You did the right thing. No updates are coming to A7siii. Whereas the A7 iv continues to get the updates. The FX series is the new A7s series.
Shooting fast moving sports...yes siii better rolling shutter control is important to me. Also concerning 12mp stills, most photos are posted on internet and viewed on small screens. For me, not a factor.
I wanted to complain that I have been chastised and shamed for complaining unnecessarily... Just kidding! 100% agree with your message, about time someone voiced what most of us have been thinking for years now. We are all in danger of becoming a bunch of entitled whingers. Great vid!

cool vids, my only issue with my A7iV is when the active stabilization turned on, the camera body make a kinda rattling sound like crazy, till now can't figure out how to deal with it, anyone knows any solution please hit me up, much appreciated... 🙏🏽
Hey nice video but I have to totally disagree. I don't consider myself Spoiled when I drop more than 2k on any camera regardless of the brand! To me it looks like Sony needed to make some more money and rushed the IV just like Canon did with the R5 and R6 with everyone around here falling over themselves pushing cameras that have major overheating issues when using 4k specs. So you're telling me this camera overheats, has rolling shutter and a smaller screen? I shoot with my A7S3 all day 4k with no issues and also shoot with a Canon R cause why bother to upgrade if I can't use the higher specs reliably. Just my two cents but hang on to the A7S3 and take photos with a Sony I Mark ii that's what I do!
If you would have watched the video you would have seen that this camera does NOT have overheating issues, my talk on overheating was to actually prove it doesn’t . No one is telling YOU to sell your a7s3. This video is so people stop discouraging those who can’t afford a a7s3 to understand the a74 is plenty of camera for the $1,000 price difference. In most situations:
The A7S3 is not really good for photography. It only has 12 megapixels. Not even a true comparison. A7iv with 33 megapixels blows the 12 megapixels out of the water if you are printing client phots in large print. A7S3 is a video camera first that can shoot photos but not meant to be a photography camera. Sony has different cameras for different niches. A7R4 is for photography, A7S4 is Video, A71 is the flagship can do it all camera, A74 is like a budget A1 best of both worlds on a budget.

Thanks for the video. A7siii makes filming so fun too, best camera ever. Really has no flaws haha just the 12mp but the photos still look awesome and you can just do screenshots of the videos and they look great too.
I am not too concerned about overheating however, it would be nice if we did have the option of shooting 4k120 uncropped even for 60-120 seconds
I love your attitude! I have the Sony a 73. It would be nice to move up to another camera, but hey… I’ve still got an incredible camera and don’t need to complain.
Has anyone ever done a poll with the sony a7iv overheating. How many people are using CFEXPRESS cards vs a v30,v6,v90
Would you please tell me which camera were you using from1:00-2:20?
Hands down one of the best reviews! Short, sweet and real!
Dude, awesome perspective! You gained another sub!
Sony a7iv overheats here in India during video recording at weddings. I have had several shutdowns in front of clients. I guess most of the RUclipsrs praising the a7iv must be living in cold climates and not shooting outdoors in the daylight and not for client work.
Solid bro ! Great vid .
Do you think it’s worth to get for me , I shoot football games , mainly
Flag . Usually Saturday and Sundays . The games last an hour , sometimes my high school games over 2…
Could
This camera handle that usage ? I know you mentioned the over heating and how to handle it but I just don’t wanna purchase this if it’s not good for sports videography , and tbh haven’t seen a lot of videos with this camera on that topic . Lmk thanks !
Cool video, some great points made here - way too much complaining out there. Happy b-day. Subbed
I would like to hear your view on ND filters, run and gun shutter/aperture settings, etc. A video on this topic would be awesome. Thank you!
Totally agree. People picking little things to complain. If it doesn't fit your expectations...don't buy it then. Simple isn't so simple anymore.
I have dilemma with the A7IV. Seems the bracketing and the delay timer is in the same options. How can i continuous bracket with a delay timer. My Canon has this. This for me is huge. I let the camera settle with the timer and then I take 3 bracketed continuous photos.
Since I need to re align these
photos I cant have movement when
i release the shutter on the first
photo.
love my a74. thanks for the video brother
Hell ya
Much love man. Hope your birthday was good man. Thanks for this video. I agree with you and most of everything said here. Got a new Sub with me!
I appreciate it
Dude I don’t know how anyone complains about any camera.
Spoil spoil spoil. Thank you for applying this wise word . Great video sir. !!!!!!
does it do 1080p or 1440p 120? I don't care about 4K
Video on PP? Slog3? HLG?
Anyone notice that when you are shooting video on the A7 IV at either 24 or 30 FPS and you look through the finder and pan around it’s choppy? Hopefully it’s not just mine…
Edgar Flores re: choppiness
I shoot EVERYTHING in 60fps and then EDIT in a 60fps Timeline.
@Alfred S. Sikula entry level is probably the wrong word for it, too expensive for that bracket, but it is definitely the best all-rounder for first getting into full frame camera's.👌
On the topic of sports and the a9II I would have to agree with that guy however. the point to remember is that professional sports photographers make their money catching the perfect shot in what is a fraction of a second, sports are often very fast paced and unpredictable, as such those who specialize in that field choose top level camera's that boast very quick frame per second bursts. to them it doesn't matter if the sensor is only 20MegaPixels or so like with Canon, but that they can get 20-30 pictures in the 1 second of action means they have more opportunities to not miss the shot.✨📷😎
they also don't really get a choice as to where they stand either so this often comes with expensive, long lenses with as wide an aperture as is possible so they can stop down for depth and peak sharpness where necessary. they are exclusively photographers however and the presence or lack of 4k 60fps would be largely irrelevant to what they use their camera for. sports videographers would get the best camera for video and while I am not sure, IMO would find camera's that can shoot 4k in 120fps uncropped would be ideal for slow motion replays and would not get the a7IV either.🤔 they spend the money as an investment in being able to do their job, and so will look to the likes of the a7IV as a backup body rather than the prime tool of their trade.
It's about buying the right camera for your intended use and expertise. most people who complain about the crop are not professionals who would have spent the money for a camera that suits their needs, they are just hobbyist/amateurs upset they can't get everything they want in an affordable package. Imagine if I made similar complaints when my budget was just £500 for my first DSLR the Nikon D3500, I would have been laughed out of the room for thinking I could get top-quality anything for that budget.😂
what does it mean for a 33MP sensor to shoot 4k60 without a crop: that is the camera's sensor and processor trying to process and down sample 7k footage into 4k footage, as there is no pixel binning or line skipping, and at the same time transferring and writing that 4K down sampled footage to a storage device. the camera for it's budget simply doesn't have the power for that, and since Sony don't like line skipping or pixel binning where they can avoid it, means a full readout from a reduced section of the sensor; after crop this means the camera needs only to down sample 4.2k footage to 4k and transfer/write it to memory which is much easier on the processor.
and for those who say:
"but the A1 has the same processor and can shoot 4k60" - yes, but it bins pixels from the sensor, and doesn't down sample them so it has less burden to cope with from the beginning.
How about the cage? Can you use the same cage as A7Siii
How does it compare to LUMIX S5? Comparable rolling shutter? Better, worse?
It’s almost the exact same. I think the s5 is around 23ms and the a74 is around 24ms.
Happy Birthday Big E, enjoy your day!
Cheers
Excellent and informative 🙌💪 I have both the fx3 and a7siii as well but I love the photo capabilities of the a7s4
I got mine today, sending it back tomorrow. Tested the video and it is terrible if you are moving around to follow a scene. The OM1 is much better, sigh. I 5 year old camera is better at video than a brand new one. Oh well, maybe the Fuji X H2 will be what I am looking for.
Does this overheat when doing photography or just video? I’m thinking about getting it but haven’t seen anyone talk about that.
No, it doesn’t. Have shot for hours with it and it doesn’t even get warm while taking photos. Oddly enough, the only time the camera got warm for me was when I was setting it up and going through the menus for an hour. I’ve never even gotten the temp warning while shooting video.
Why is the HD sharper in S35 mode?
Thanks for the value. New sub!
The term run and gun is over used so often. In my opinion it only applies to photojournalist, some wedding photographers, fashion photographers and of course pro sports photographers, everyone else are regular paced shutter clickers.
Ok.
Sir any issue ourheat 7m4 are you satisfied in 7m4
Honestly, despite all the reviews, this thing is just a beast compared to my canon rebel T6 ☠️☠️ anything than that is better at this point lol I’ll gladly take that a7iv lol
Sony A7s line might be dead. You did the right thing. No updates are coming to A7siii. Whereas the A7 iv continues to get the updates. The FX series is the new A7s series.
Thanks for your video!
Well for some of us unable to see we need a bigger screen so the argument it’s legit in my opinion, lets see how you feel if you remove those glasses.
Is the 1080p 60p on the A7 IV cropped as well?
No
1 year with my a6600 and only wish is dual card slot. If sony will come with new apsc with dual card slot will buy. If not will buy second a6600.
Shooting fast moving sports...yes siii better rolling shutter control is important to me. Also concerning 12mp stills, most photos are posted on internet and viewed on small screens. For me, not a factor.
Switch the a74 to aps-c mode, no more rolling shutter.
Love my A7IV. Coming from an a6400 it was a no brainer
Hell yeah congrats man
when i listen to u without watching u ..u sounds like tony stark man 😂
I got 2 a7iv's and 1 a7siii so life is good for me!
Dam which my life can be like that?😭🤑💗
I wanted to complain that I have been chastised and shamed for complaining unnecessarily... Just kidding! 100% agree with your message, about time someone voiced what most of us have been thinking for years now. We are all in danger of becoming a bunch of entitled whingers. Great vid!
That auto shut off is critical!!
Really is
Two a7iv , sold my a7siii also A7c as well. 🤟🏾
Fixes: an atomos, Sony 10-18, less rolling shutter in 4k60 crop, big boy/girl underpants.
No issue w evf mp, I do wish magnification was⬆️
@rocksthaman 10-18 F4... Aps-c? I was thinking about this combination for real estate videos too. Does it work ?
The Panasonic S5 and Sony A74 are on my shopping list.
Same here it’s a toss up. Coming from a canon 6D
There is something about the S5 footage that's unique for sure.
Happy belated birthday!
Thanks so much for the Video
And to the people that hate the Specs of the Sony A7IV than don't buy it that simple there is no such thing like the perfect cam but there is a cam that can fit your needs and if you really need more want more power in video than buy the Sony A7sIII & if u need more photo power get a Sony A9 or sony A7RIV it really is that simple if you have the money if not be more Grateful about what you have & become a great content Creator @Big e brother I totally agree on this Video I'll
Personally love my A7IV and the 60fps crop
Don't bother me at all.... I used to own a sony a7iii and it's huge upgrade that cam couldn't even shoot 4k 30fps without a crop so I'll can't complain since I'll use 30fps anyway and 60 for soft slow shoots it's great ^^
cool vids, my only issue with my A7iV is when the active stabilization turned on, the camera body make a kinda rattling sound like crazy, till now can't figure out how to deal with it, anyone knows any solution please hit me up, much appreciated... 🙏🏽
Iam already sell my camara panasonic ag dvx 200.iam waiting for 7m4
I use the webcam a lot. All work related calls. The rest of time slog3 looks great.
The a7iv does overheat during daylight outdoor video shoots. Wish i had known this before i lost my money.
Overheating 4K shooting issue huh? - GH5 user on 3rd hour of shooting 4k 60p.
Did you even watch the video😂
Cardinal Camera blows! I've had 2 experiences with them, both were horrendous.
Never got where 60”p” came from when talking about fps.
60p is a shorthand indicator for a video frame rate. Specifically, 60 progressive frames per second.
@@BigE yea I know what it means I just don’t get how they came up with it. Should be 60fps. Just weird that it’s a short for resolution and frame rate. (1080p, 60p)
Great video!! Speaking the whole truth 😂
bit overprice and over hype ...and even very long waiting time till launch in India
Super agree with what u said..especially towards the end..the gear doesn't matter if we do fully utilise it , and we are at a time when gears are just soooo good, there's never been a greater time to be messing with cameras I guess 😄
Ordered…. Thx
When cnonnused to do that there were destroyed for the cropped 4k. I expect the same treatment here to sony. I shoot both systems with a A7riv and the A9ii....along with like 15 Canons :).
earned my follow. nice hat and good to see ya roast some cry babies
Complaining about complaining……………priceless
Too many dots, it would of been more effective if you did around 3. Sucks to suck Anthony.
People want what they want....
Very disturbing thumbnail
good job. :)
מזל טוב פאר דיין געבורט׳ס טאג.
Yeah, but it's still cropped. TRASH.
BMPCC6K pro is the best. Sony, Canon, etc are trash
If u have a focus puller true, if not for solo run and gun this better
