  • In this Episode of the Wide Awake Podcast I spoke to Gabriel Du Preez also known as Tokkie. Tokkie was born in Feitas which is a suburb in Johannesburg. In 2010 he was introduced to one of south Africa's most successful music groups, Die Antwoord by filmmaker Ben Jay Crossmen.
He was adopted by Yolandi Visser and Ninja when he was nine years old along with his younger sister Meisie. Their older brother was not adopted and remained in Fietas with his mother.
Tokkie believes that Die Antwoord adopted him solely because of the way he looks and that it was all part of their image.
After spending many years with the musical group and appearing in some of their most successful music videos titled ‘I Fink U Freaky and Ugly Boy' Tokkie has been completely cut off and is now living back in Fietas with his older brother. His sister remains in their custody.

Your getting man's story out there, yes?. This interview is about serious allegations and the subject matter is of a serious nature. And yes sometimes you have to" laugh or you'd cry". I get it. However your use of the word "enjoy" in the preamble was ill advised. The topics discussed are not entertainment but a re-telling of an individual's experiences: :Die Antwoord Exposed By Adopted Son Tokkie / Wide Awake Podcast EP. 25". Your title. It's an expose. Start small just recording himself with his phone telling short stories about his life, growing up in that crazy neighbourhood, little tours around his hood, interviewing some locals etc. The content there must be endless, he doesn’t even need to tell DA stories unless he wants. Moat nine year Olds have a concept of right and wrong normal and not by what they are around. I knew my homework was to be started when I got home and if I was eating anything I got hit. I knew that. So I didn't snack and I did my homework. This child had a normal he was used to, then basically built up emotionally while being broken physically and emotionally. They ruined his right and wrong. I'm genuinely surprised he is so well adjusted. Again, I feel like so many people are so tone deaf and blind to have how lucky we are in my country. They just took a kid from homewith a fake signature. I wonder if they gave his mom money. He got a good life, in her eyes. Then gave her a very small amount, but its a lot for moms area. Well it's poverty and the real parents was said to be in drugs (aka propably something like heroine or crack/amphetamines, I got sense like addicted since he said it was already normal to see for him) so when the countries biggest celebs come to ask if they can adopt your child who have a condition, they propably were thinking that this is path for him to make a good outcome for his future by what these people can provide (and maybe help them back). Like say Angelina Jolies and Pitt's kids, like Jolie basically directed the movie about Cambodias genocide by having a child whose heritage is from there (I have been there, there is gruesome history in it). That just shows that there is real dedication for the kids in big time. Those children were ofcourse adopted like you are supposed to in normal cases but I mean that there can be results of becoming basically a kid just from very rich household 😅 Better schooling, more opportunities for life, making contacts for future. When he was from ghetto with problematic, altough with loving parents I guess it was just the parents in a dire situation rolling the dice and trusting too much for a good outcome when these people happened to be the one to provide propably the worst one (also two mouths less to feed which must be tempting in hc poverty).

Just because someone is nice to you doesn't mean they are nice to everyone, you must always remember that. Allowing her adopted son to take drugs and party with adults and be used as a literal slave and driver for them. No. Yolandi isn't getting away with this either. Both of them broke ethics and both of them are to blame for this. Do not come here and try to defend these people the reason they aren't in prison for their crimes is because people defend them.
