    Welcome to the second video of my DMC5 Beginner's guide to combat.
    This time I will introduce skills for Dante that even beginners can easily adopt, to better avoid getting hit and control the battle on higher difficulties.
    I am by no means a master on this game or the series. If there is anything I missed or is mistaken, please leave a comment down below.

    Thanks dude very helpful. I was a tad overwhelmed with Dante even after getting decent with the other 2 when first going through the story. Just trying this out in in the void for a couple minutes has made me play him better!

    An essensial tip for those playing on Keyboard and Mouse is to rebing the style keys to z,x,c, and alt for Gunslinger, Trickster, Swordmaster, and Royal Guard respectively. It helps a lot when you don't have to memorize if x or c is Trickster.

      I've done it a bit different. I'll just drop some of the controls I changed below. Mind you I'm not exactly good at DMC.
      1 to 4 - Styles
      C - normal gun fire
      RMB - Style action
      Rest of the keybinds are the same as default controls I think.

    Great tips! In my 3rd playthrough Mission 12, I used "Ice Age" to parry Fury and "Mustang + Enemy step" to evade Urizen's close ranged attacks! Thanks, it really works! Now I have to incorporate Percussion, Rain Storm and Gun Stinger. Your fights look so cool!

      Me too. 😂 Discovering mustang in 5 while also knowing most people don't was a major reason I did this video actually.
      Interesting enough in 4 (first appearance) its properties are quite different.
      In 4 it counts as an attack against enemies, enemies can be hit stunned by it, but on the downside enemies blocking like Angelo types can also block your mustang like a normal hit.
      In 5 it's treated much more like enemy step, where nothing will stop Mustang once it has started, which is overall much more reliable for i-frame purposes.

      I would think that most people do know there's a DT, but specifically the problem is that they save it for healing when in low health.
      To which I would say they should pop DT first to tank the hits instead of healing them after the fact, as the armor/damage reduction is way better than the healing in almost every DMC

    I would offer that putting the commands to execute the moves you discuss on the screen somewhere would be very helpful. The viewer's eyes are reading your text and not watching the controller. As a new player, I didn't know that Dante had a move called "Mustang" or what the commands were to use it.

    • @bgdgaming92
      @bgdgaming92  Год назад +8

      Mustang's input is displayed at the start of its section at around 00:38 - 00:50. It's simply to hold the Tricskter dash button facing the enemy.
      The official description "after executing a dash" might be confusing to new players, where it simply means do not release the style button when you do a trickster dash. "After executing XX" format comes up often in this game's skill descriptions, just remember that it usually means to hold or continuing a button input.

      I know right. A skill that lets you jump up after a dash instead of pressing the jump button, does sound like a redundant move.
      And it mostly is on a combo potential perspective which is probably why it's so ignored in the combo-focused DMC community.
      But in terms of survival help it's actually great.

    "Both" DT and Red Mode?
    I was vaugly aware enemies could DT, but what's "Red Mode?"

    • @bgdgaming92
      @bgdgaming92  Год назад +2

      Proto Angelo has a unique state when in low health where they grow red.
      Stat wise they will double their damage resistance only taking half the damage. stacked with DT mode in DMD they pretty much only take 1/4 of all damage that does not ignore armor (which basically is just SDT Dante's Demolition skill).
      Behavior wise they start to become more aggressive and spam charge attacks more often.

    How can I cancel while doing attacks?

    • @bgdgaming92
      @bgdgaming92  9 месяцев назад +2

      There are usually a few ways, and each of them can cancel attacks to a different degree.
      It can depend on the individual attack's length and at which frame the animation starts to allow changing into things, which are unique to each attack.
      In short, the things you can do to cancel attacks are: Dodging, Royal Guard Block, Enemy Step in the air, SDT, SDT in SSS rank.
      Doing a dodge roll to the side can cancel some longer attacks midway. It has no ability to cancel the "non-cancelable" parts of attacks.
      The same goes to pressing the Royal Guard Block during attacks. The only advantage is that it is quicker than a dodge, and doesn't move Dante, so you can chain into other actions/attacks faster.
      While in the air and close to an enemy, pressing jump will allow Dante to do a skill called "Enemy Step", which can most attacks at any moment. Then you can immediately chain into another attack or other actions as you see fit. This usage of Enemy Step is commonly referred to as "jump cancelling/JC".
      Dante's normal DT transformation cannot cancel any attacks so that is not an option for him, contrary to Nero where releasing the movement stick when pressing DT will trigger the activation animation, which can cancel actions.
      Instead for Dante, his SDT activation animation can cancel attacks. SDT activation overrides pretty much any other animation, including all of Dante's attacks even their "non-cancelable" frames, dodges, even knockdown and recovery.
      But it also comes with great disadvantage as well, because SDT activation 5+ seconds long and you're stuck in SDT mode afterwards, you can't really use that to cancel attacks and chain into other ones.
      Lastly, activating SDT when you have a SSS style rank can trigger the quick version of SDT (a skill called Quadruple S) where the transformation is instant and you can deactivate SDT by pressing DT within the first ~5 seconds. This has all benefits of normal SDT activation, and you can immediately disable it and go back into normal form, which is very combo friendly. Only downside is that you have to maintain that SSS rank, which surely is no small task if you aren't used to Dante.

    How do I even use Dante ? Is it selectable or you just change between Nero Dante and V

    • @bgdgaming92
      @bgdgaming92  7 месяцев назад +2

      I'm not sure what you mean by that. If you mean the missions in the main story, which character you use is fixed, Mission 7 is always a choice between Nero and V, only on Mission 13 do you have the choice to choose between all 3.
      On bloody palace all 3 characters are available to choose at the start.
      If you're on the Special Edition or have bought the Vergil DLC, on story missions Vergil is a separate menu, take a look at the top left corner where it says "Nero/V/Dante" or "Vergil".

      @@5part4 I see 👍
      By the way mainline DMC uses the name "Special Edition".
      The term "Definitive Edition" is occupied by the reboot DmC Devil May Cry's, to avoid confusion it is best to use "Special Edition" to describe DMC3/4/5's expanded version

    • @bgdgaming92
      @bgdgaming92  Год назад +2

      Well as per how a lot of other people does it, you can definitely just stick with 1~2 of those options and do great just mastering your choice of weapons.
      The difficulty of grasping DMC combat certainly ties in on the amount and complexity of the total inputs, taking it slow by limiting to a section of the total definitely helps.
      By the point you mastered a portion of those inputs and can perform them without giving any thought to it, you will free up more space to include more weapons into your roaster.
      Also mastering the basics of safety would definitely help giving you the space to practice whatever combos or combinations you want in actual missions, tying back to the point of this video.

    • @bgdgaming92
      @bgdgaming92  9 месяцев назад +1

      It's better if you specify which skill and weapon you were trying to use, then what other things did it randomly changed to.
      It could just be you accidentally moved your fingers on the L2/R2, or respective keys on PC, from nervousness.
      Or that you're using King Cerberus and didn't remember holding the button then releasing gives you lightening attacks instead.
      Or that you didn't know Balrog has two modes and you suddenly did kicks when you want punches.
      They all can sound like weapons changing randomly So I would need more details to understand.
