Great demo, thanks. I shall probably buy one of these.
Pretty cool pedal, thanks for sharing my friend!!
Great demo. Using a small portion of my stimulus check to buy one, now.
I have a reverb, delay and a chorus pedal and what lacking on my board are other modulation effects. Definitely can't afford expensive ones and just been looking for a small multieffects mod unit and this one so far covers pretty much everything. Bought it. 👍
Wow thanks for your demo
Nice chords
It's so great, I'm looking to get one, thanks guy.
Always a treat, SPJ.
I love ( LoVe ) how they incorporated the functionality and Visual for the on-board Tap Tempo. Its a nice little modulation box. Not a exactly a Mobius Killer but Better then alot of other Do-it-All Pedals.
Totally! And it doesn’t have to be a Mobius killer. It can just be itself and do what it wants to do but HAS to do it well. Thankfully it does. 👍
Thanks for watching
You looked like you were having particular fun with the cryin' bot. Just ordered one of these and before I did I needed a good review, thanks for providing one for me.
tobortine glad it helped out! Enjoy when it arrives.
Thanks for the great video! I’m looking for the right multi mod for a nano board ao this really helps me. Thanks again. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Glad you liked the video! Please use my Sonicake affiliate link when you purchase. It’s a small commission but it really helps me out.
Link is in the description 👍
Beautiful choices of chords at 11:17 Sean. The pedal sounds great. Nice demo 👍
Jason McNamara thanks Jason! Yeah that’s actually from a song by At The Drive-In. Very cool and ethereal voicing of a fairly simple D chord.
woah i was not expecting to like this pedal this much!
Me neither
Beautiful playing!
Thanks a lot!
usually the differences in sounds do not come through very vibrantly on my devices but this one sure does! It's very versatile and I can see that pedal being the only one that one needs!
It’s a nice little box for sure. Some of the effects feel redundant but it’s understandable once you play them.
REALY LOVED THE QUITAR PLAY BEGINING AT 8:25 SOUNDS LIKE A FILMS SOUNDTRACK LIKE THE CROW FILM ...NICE.....😃
Nice! Loves me some Crow
That was a really helpful demo. Thanks!
Glad it helped Brian! Thanks for watching
@@SeanPierceJohnson I have seen other people mentioning that the switch pops when engaging (fairly common with phasers) and that there seems to be an overall loss of signal when the pedal is engaged. What are your experiences with the quality? Thanks again.
Wow, you got some awesome sounds out of it ... IF they where cheaper then they are $59us/$79can on amazon i could see 2-3 of these on a pedal board to make up a semi-multi fx pedal combo thing on a board with the ability to mix where you wanted those effects to be in a chain/setup.
About to binge the crap outta your reviews. Saw you on the Canucks w/Guitars shows..thought Id followed you before this. My bad! Your playing variety, guitar variety and sheer effort in your review is very refreshing.
Thanks man! greatly appreciate the kind words
I'm making a 2cnd pedal board with the stimulus. Something easy to grab & go play. My other one takes up my living room floor LOL. I found the Sonicake chorus easy on the $. I got out bid $90 for the old Boss Flanger. I said check out sonicake flanger "5th Dimension" I bought it & then saw your video ! Awesome, I will sleep good tonight. I will call the pedal 800# & get the help I need.
Great demo!
Thanks Christopher! 🤘
I can’t believe I’m saying this: I like the ring mod best. The way you dialed in the note w/additional dry signal was super cool. I’ve never found a useful reason for that effect, but I could’ve added even more dry, tossed delay on it and used it as a well placed effect at the back of an arpeggiated part...hmm, ideas, ideas...
👏👏👏
-Aaron
Ideas ideas ideas...always ideas.
@@SeanPierceJohnson It's not a ring mod, it's a bit crasher. Though anyway great review, thanx!
gates what’s a bit CRASHER?!? I want one!!! 😂
@@SeanPierceJohnson jejeje
Solid review. 👌
Reminds me a lot like the MKII, which I also highly recommend checking out.
On the flipside, paired with a PockVerb, any budget guitarist can have a massive range of possibilities without even breaking $90.
Is there any other pedal that competes with the PockVerb? Thanks for your opinion!
dude thats rad you listen to me jam, im totally flattered i like the way you threw down on xinbone blues, so thanks I liked an subscribed
Great review. This actually sold me on this pedal over some other similar pedals. I heard many familiar tones there, including two of my favorites- Smashing Pumpkins and Pink Floyd. I own two Sonicake pedals (one is the Twiggy Blues multi effects bar), so I know they make some quality stuff, especially for the price.
Chris Radzion two of my favorites as well! I should actually be getting a RockStage bar from Sonicake any day now. Should be fun to check out! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words!
SeanPierceJohnson Crazy update: after reading some of the promotions literature on this pedal, which has been on my board for a year (mostly for the phases and Rotovibe effects), I learned that using the Jet Fln Br, if dialed in just right, can do very good Leslie tones. I messed around with it (I never had much use for that effect, as I use an Electric Mistress clone for my flanger needs), and low and behold- it actually nails some killer Leslie tones. I’ve been able to get the same sounds that you find on “Sgt Peppers” and on “Dark Side of the Moon”. Over a year later and I’m still finding this little pedal to be more and more versatile!
@@chrisradzion2148on smashing pumpkins was it snail you were hearing?
Sean you play with real taste and feel mate 👍🏻 Good demo, subbed.
thank you Jay! really very kind of you. please feel free to share the channel with friends that you think would enjoy the videos. take care!
Just purchased this pedal from Amazon £36.99 after watching this demo great as always Sean
thanks man! much appreciated. be sure to Subscribe for new videos
I just bought one to use with my electric piano (electromechanical, like a Wurly - not digital). It's an amazing pedal for the price. My favourite effects are both chorus effects, Opto Trem (the Liquid Trem is too square-wave for my liking), the Roto (similar to a Small Stone phaser) and the Talking Bot filter. Definitely worth getting if you have a Rhodes or a Wurly.
Incidentally, my pedal has opaque black knobs and a single separate red LED indicator. Probably a more recent version.
Yes they did change the aesthetic of it in the last couple of years. It’s a shame cuz the one I got is a real looker
So nice strap, very cool
I love my seat belt straps...but sadly they are discontinued
I was/am collecting the Valeton Loft pedals a.k.a. HoTone a.k.a. Sonicake. But at $35 MSRP (plus Markups all over (eBay sellers) a shot for 1 Effect ..that has 11? 16ish? SOLD it'll be here in a few days.
I came here to check out the pedal. Finds out your a wrestling fan as well. Double win.
awesome! thanks for checking out the video bud.
and btw...Double win you say? Any chance you'll be in Vegas next weekend? ;)
@@SeanPierceJohnson No, but I went all out and bought this pedal 😂
Carl Toppin well played 👍
Only person with a good lofi demo
Thanks 🤘👍
Excellent video!...how would you say this pedal compares to the Donner mod square 2 pedal ?
Thanks. I’ve actually not played the Donner so I can’t give you a good comparison
I've just got one and there's a noticeable dulling of the overall tone, including when it's off (not true bypass). I mainly got it for the tap tempo, which would be useful if you could set it to 8ths or 16ths for tremelo, but to get it to a decent speed you have to tap stupidly fast.
I've gone straight back to the Donner Mod Square which is similar - no tap tempo but it is true bypass and keeps the tone nicely
that's too bad man. i haven't found it to dull the tone. some of the effects do lose some signal but...anyway.
at least you have something that works
Question, did you have any trouble getting this working? I have the correct power supply and everything plugged it correctly but not even the LED's come on. In fact i was so sure that it was a fault in the pedal the company sent me another one and again I'm having the same issue. Thanks
no, no issue getting it powered up. strange. have you tried the power supply with another pedal?
That first note sounded like deafheaven I was so excited
In the intro?
SeanPierceJohnson yeah in the intro the first *chord

The lofi is a Bit Crusher and not a ring modulator, it seems. It doesn't sound like a ring modulator.
Yeah, someone brought that up a while ago
nice demo
Thanks!
I realize I am kinda randomly asking but does anyone know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Angelo Yehuda flixportal :)
@Giovanni Ryder Thanks, I went there and it seems to work :D I really appreciate it!!
@Angelo Yehuda glad I could help :)
Great pedal and great video. Question, where did You find that pedal? I bought mine in Aliexpress but it has only one led, and I see yours has three leds, one each knob. Even in the sonicake page they offer the pedal With one led. Thanks man
Hey there! I got this direct from Sonicake and it’s an older version of the pedal. They have changed it’s look in the ensuing years. Same thing, just new cosmetics.
@@SeanPierceJohnson thanks for your answer, the Quality of the sound is the same for sure, but to be honest your pedal looks beautiful With those leds, great detail.
Do you know whether or not your dry signal has an analog passthrough? One thing that annoys me about my Line 6 DL4 is that the ENTIRE signal gets converted to digital and back to analog again and it's a very noticeable degradation in tone. Especially due to the cheap 20 year old digital A/D converters used. The writing on this pedal looks like it would be impossible to read in low-light situations too but at least I can repaint it! Great demo btw!
Thanks! I don’t really know it has analog dry thru or not. I personally don’t worry too much about that; if it sounds good and feels good to play I’m generally good.
And I dunno, I still have my DL4 and it works for me.
Would love to have heard some more subtle settings on some of these effects. Everything had mix all the way up
several of the effects were too subtle at lower Mix settings. Also, for some of them the "Mix" knob was really acting as a "Level" knob. anything below full up was not at unity gain.
I had one of these (less than a day) and the mix knob didn't work as it should on 8 of the 11 effects. It's acts as a volume on all others, but with 100% wet effect and the mix knob acting as an extra instrument or amp volume knob. ... I see that as 72.7% DEFECTIVE, as far as having a working, (and needed!) mix knob goes.
If any owners question if their pedal does the same thing, turn the mix knob all the way down. (While playing), if it kills the sound as you switch through all the effects , (except the 2 Choruses and the LoFi), it's the same.
Isn't Sonicake also Valeton? Is the 5th Dimension basically a re-packaged Valeton Coral Mod CME-1 ?
Not actually... But we did get a little bit of inspiration from Coral Mod... We figure that is indeed a true value proposition with that format of pedals of packing so much into such a little enclosure. But we do know the Valeton people in person. They have a great team up there with great products. Hats off to the Valeton team!
I wanna know where you got that old car seatbelt buckle guitar strap!
man, i've had that thing for YEARS. probably got it at 14-15...and THEY DON'T MAKE THEM ANYMORE!!!
@@SeanPierceJohnson I saw some on reverb later but they're Ford lol.
I have a chevy belt like it, it's all relic'd from use... maybe I'll MAKE a guitar strap!
EDIT: looking at your video again, your's doesn't look branded to a car company. That would be even better.
Can anyone speak as to if it sucks your tone or not? Just bought the EHX eddy (Should have tried it more thoroughly at the store) and damn I'm sooooo disappointed, the moment I kick it in, even with all the knobs all the way down, my guitar starts to sound both dead and thin.
I found with my 5th dimension that I do have to keep the Level control up relatively high to get unity gain.
As for bypass signal I don’t notice the tone being too effected.
@@SeanPierceJohnson yes well, as far as gain level is concerned, it's not that big of a deal. it's more like, the loss of frequencies that I wanna avoid at all cost
Is it noisy ie with lots of hiss? Thanks
No more noise than a typical modulation pedal has.
Beautiful demo 😊 ☺️ 😍.What tuning it's using 🤔?
thanks Jim! I usually keep that Black/Silver LP in half-step down standard and will do drop D as well
Hey, how does the Carvin DI sound? Compared to all the other best DI's out there? Thanks!
it sounds like a DI should: nothing. it works, it's transparent and has some cool and handy extras to make it work in a variety of situations. PLUS...it's affordable.
I had one micro pedal spot left on my pedalboard. Now I have zero spots left on my pedalboard.
enjoy it!
11:36 were you playing At The Drive-In?
Winner winner! Was on a BIG “Relationship of Command” kick back when I shot this.
@@SeanPierceJohnson Invalid Litter Department or something like that if I'm remembering correctly.
Wonder if this could be used on a base guitar
I’m sure you could though you might lose some low end
2:40 - I dont know. Any hints?
Roland Jazz Chorus
@@SeanPierceJohnson niiiiiiice. Thanks. I'm new !!
Has anyone used this on bass? I'm afraid it'll take off too much low end
Sadly it might…but I could give it a try and see
Just bought it for bass, it’s going to replace an MXR Phase 90. Arrived today, practice next week. We’ll see what my results are, and of course your mileage may vary.
On bass you’re really only gonna use one modulation effect at a time. So having eleven of them on a switcheroo like this in a 1590A enclosure would really be an asset.
One thing that is nice is that they sent a die-cut piece of Velcro formed to the bottom of the pedal, with circular cutouts for the screws(!)
The modulations are ok but it has a volume drop so severe that i don't think you could use it in a live context.
fist 10 seconds sold
Thanks! It’s quite an awesome little box
This pedal is the son, & the heir ..
Of nothing in particular…
8:07 kinda sounds like...... Alice In Chains - Rooster.... but not the notes/ riff you played
True bypass?
Buffered
Us sellers buy these all up from china then almost double the price on ebay. It's hard to find the China listings. Sometimes it's not Worth the waiting a month or 2 from china and is worth paying an extra 10 but some are outrageous.
this is the first i'm hearing about this. i haven't been in touch with the Sonicake guys for a while.
Show de Pedal
um...did i not?
@@SeanPierceJohnson Hahaha, I imagine they're Portuguese speakers: "Show de pedal" would mean something like "Amazing pedal".
Naito beat Jericho. Just saying.
SOUNDS LIKE A BIG STINKY DOO DOO!!
💩
Trust me, don't buy this pedal. its junk!
maybe you got a bad one? dunno...mine works fine for me
Lol “trust me”
this one or rowins or both are same cheap crap 😂?
I can’t say anything about the rowin. Never played it. But I link this. It has some good sounds.
@@SeanPierceJohnson agreed thanks a lot great video
It makes me uncomfortable when you look at me ( the camera) when playing, kinda awkward, i know im not the only one !!
