    I've worn those boots for years as a UPS guy I'll say that the laces are best part of those boots. In 25yrs of walking all day I've never had a better pair of laces, my last pair of thoro I wore for two years and never tore a lace my even last pair I had for a year and half never tore a lace. The best laces I've ever had on any boots.

      Henry Haro been dropping boxes for Ups for 17 years now and the redwing 606 is the best boot ever made for our line of work. 3 years 3 soles. Went from pre-load to driver. And have had 5 pairs gonna get my sixth soon. Break in is hell but it is only 1?weak for three years payoff is worth it.

      i digress its even cheaper! i quote "Resole Process:
      Put a note in the box with contact information for yourself and requesting the resole. The charge is $50.95. You can either make a check out to Weinbrenner Shoe for that amount and put it in the box, or you can put in the note to contact you for payment and we can take a card over the phone. The resole process tends to take 4-6 weeks to finish.
      The address you can send them back to is:
      Weinbrenner Shoe
      Attn.: Resoling
      108 S Polk St
      Merrill, WI 54452
      Please note: There needs to be enough good material left, after we take the old sole off, to attach the new sole to. We can’t tell if there will be or not until the sole gets taken off, so every once in a while we come across a pair that we take apart and then can’t resole. If this happens, you will not be charged. We will contact you if this happens, to give you the option of either having them sent back to you or having us destroy them. It doesn’t happen very often, but we do need to make you aware of it just in case." - from linda hirsch at thorogood

    I've had these boots for a week, they've gotten more comfortable every day I have worn them. I am becoming very fond of these boots. They had a pressure point on the inside of the upper where the layers are stitched together, but it has eased up and flattened out as the leather has stretched. Great so far, and great review

      Well These boots have turned out to be a really good investment. They grip really well on every type of surface. I forget I'm wearing work boots during my work day. The insole is really good. The laces are a joke, but I threw some RW ones in there and I'm a happy guy. The pressure point I mentioned above never came back after the first week or 2. No premature wear yet on the leather or sole

    I’ve had my pair for a week. Mine are the steel toe version. Very comfortable out of the box. Pretty much completely broken in after the first week. I went up a full size from 10 to 11. That could be because they’re steel toe. Either way, I recommend going to a retailer and trying them on to make sure size and fit are to your liking. Great boot!

    I have been wearing nothing but thorogood for the past 5years or so. I recommend them to all my co workers, those that tried them are convinced they're the best aswell . I do concrete,asphalt, tree trimming, a whole lots walking in them and they're comfortable right out of the box. They last me a good year before the siles start wearing out ,but the rest of the boot is ok.

I will say this it is a comfortable boot and had been around a long time it's worth investing in depending on what you do for a living

    First day in 814-4600. Took my girl Christmas shopping and I was amazed how comfortable they are. The only part that was a little uncomfortable was the heel is a bit stiff at first. Highly recommended these great boots. Thanks for the review. Now to find a watch strap to match.

    I completely agree, buy in person. Sizing is all over the place. I bought 8.5 D which were narrow and painful, especially where the stitching comes together near the first eyelet. Exchanged for size 8 wide and the length fits like a 9 - 9.5 yet still uncomfortable in the same area. Curious, went to a physical store and tried on different sizes; 8.5 fit well. Too much discrepancy in sizing. Very nice boots though

    Awesome review. I was looking for a durable moc toe boot for work (Outside Plant Cable Technician overseas) and I took the chance and ordered these on Amazon. Read the reviews, and watched your review. Got a 9.5EE (normally a 10D/EE) and these fit soo comfortable. Quality is solid; no loose stitching, sole is comfortable, and didn't need any break in time. I'm getting used to the color as I like darker leather, but in time with dirt and character, I think these boots will look awesome. Cos it already feels awesome. These are even nice to wear on a casual evening. ***however the laces seem cheap and I'll probably replace them with leather ones :D

    I recently started wearing these boots within the last 3-5 years. I've been wearing different brands of work boots since 1996. These boots are the best I've ever owned. Comfortable out the box. I've used these doing concrete,asphalt, tree trimming and they are the best. I'm proud to sport these AMERICAN made boots. I wear them with pride. These are the working mans boots. Proud to be working class!!!

Nice reviews, keep up the good work The Boot Guy.

    I was gifted a pair of these for Christmas. Thoughts:
    -Size in person for sure. I went through one exchange and still didn't have my size nailed down, but then was able to purchase them from a retailer in person, because we happened to be traveling somewhere that had a store that carried them.
    -The hardware is nicer than my Red Wings.
    -The leather ON THIS PAIR is nice, but it seems like there's a lot of variation pair to pair. It's slightly thinner than Red Wing leather, much thinner than Nick's boots. Very pliant. Be great for dudes who aren't used to breaking in leather. Because of the thin leather, the laces did telegraph through the tongue a little, but I always need to use kilties because of my thin ankles, and those solve the problem, just as they're meant to. A less bony man may never notice.
    -I know some dudes prefer leather welts, but years of trail work have shown me these plastic welts wear better and fail less. These are also the least cheap-looking plastic welts I've ever seen.

    • @matthewsbernier
      @matthewsbernier 6 лет назад

      Update: Ironically, my complaints with this boot are things I wish were harder.
      I wish the heel counter was made of stiffer leather. It bends and creases as easily as the shaft. Same on my other pair.
      I wish the leather overall was less soft and stretchy, and more stiff and elastic.
      I can't wait to replace the soles. Between the insoles, the footbeds, and the cork, the shoes have SO MUCH CUSHION, the result being that wedge insoles are WAY TOO MUCH CUSHION. I sink at the beginning of each step, and am thrown upward at the end, in a way that's very disorienting. I have no ground feel, no sense of what I'm on.
      All that said, I do like them.

    I made the mistake of buying their China made boot, 834-6087. It was great with one exception. There was a place inside that rubbed my ankle and finally wore through to the hard material underneath. Nothing I tried could take the pressure and rubbing from my ankle. Had to quit wearing them long before I wore them out.

    I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you about a plastic welt outlasting a leather one. The leather used for welting is extremely durable and if properly cared for will outlast plastic before it cracks and brittles due to age. It may make sense if you do not expect your boots to last more than a couple of months.

    Mine came with faulty stitching where the side of the boot meets the moc toe. Not sure if they're trying to cut corners, but there were a lot of reviews where people had problems with the stitching. I'm pretty disappointed with them, good looking boot, feel comfortable... but I read about the reviews and was hesitant, and sure enough they arrived with a stitching defect.

      +DevonReviewer Thanks for the comments. Due to the materials used to make the sole and trying to maintain a bounce and supple sole compound. It has a the issue of premature wear. I would not say that they are tougher the 875's but they will be a bit easier on your pocket. 875 are coming in at $199 plus. 4200's are still floating around the net at $150.00 plus. check out unionbootpro.com they always have a coupon code going.

      I wear Redwing 405's almost every day for work. I bought a pair of these Thorogoods in black as a casual wear boot. (They look great with dark denim and a crisp button down) The main complaint I have with these soles is that they stain and are a dirt magnet. I stepped in red wine puke carrying my wife home from a party one night. It INSTANTLY stained the soles forever, the sides of the soles always look incredibly filthy from just casual wear. Most people wouldn't care, but like I said, these are my "going out" boots. My RedWing soles seem to just stay clean looking, and I wear them on construction sites 5-6 days a week.

    I'm in the process of breaking in a new custom pair of nicks boots or else I'd buy a pair of these. The mic toe reminds me of the boots my dad always wore when I was younger. I'm thinking the nicks boots of mine aren't gonna be the "all around" boot that I was hoping for.
    New sub btw!

    What happened? I have a lovely pair of sears work boots like the ones you show here. I am retired and have been using the boots for little jobs including washing my car. The paving contractors doing maintenance at the condo project applied some kind of asphalt sealant the totally destroyed my boot soles. The rubber turned to mush and big chunks fell out. What is that crap?

    the boot guy. I work inside a freezer that gets to -20 degrees. Now the cold does not bother me or my feet as long as I have something covering them but Im not sure if these boots are safe for slick surfaces.

    • @TheBootGuyreviews
      @TheBootGuyreviews  7 лет назад

      +Fear_The_Living in temperatures like this you need to have soles that don't freeze. The sole on this boot would be fine in and out of the freezing environment but in a constant -20 deg. You might want to look at Cat or Wolverine.

    They are comfy and light.... but he is right, I wore out leather before I wore out sole....i would not have them resoled....wait for a sale and pick up new pair....no break in really anyway.....wouldn't recommend these for any trade above say carpenter or framer....any of the steel, or concrete trades you will fry them quickly.....if your a super or foreman and walk alot probably one of the best

    I see a lot of comments regarding the comfort of the boot and the heavy use of the boot, but can anyone attest to the overall durability of the boot? I've had really poor experiences with boots that are cheaply made and the heel splits right off the shoe into a week of use. Can anyone give their opinion or claim on how durable Thorogood boots are?

    I was recently boot shopping and looked at thorogoods, but they came off as cheap looking, especially inside. I've bought boots at Kmart that looked better made. Once I found out also they're union made, that completely killed it for me. Enjoy "your" president, unions.

      Only a specific line is Union made. Rat workers wouldn't need a boot this tough anyways.

    Agree on the laces, and I had watched this video before I ordered and thought who picks on the laces? They are bad, ordering new ones immediately. If it helps anyone- adidas 10 fits perfect for me, my size in this boot was 10 EE (wide)

    Hey Boot Guy, I have the same boots except the 8" version. I noticed in the heel area inside of the right boot there is a hard spot that sticks up just enough to cause pain by the end of the day. I checked my left boot and there is nothing. Just curious what it might be and if it could be fixed by a cobbler. Kinda pissed because they're not that old. Any info would be great! Thanks.

    • @TheBootGuyreviews
      @TheBootGuyreviews  8 лет назад +1

      +J SJ is it the heel cups edge?

    • @TheBootGuyreviews
      @TheBootGuyreviews  8 лет назад +2

      +J SJ a cobbler might just hit it with a hammer and soften the spot. So you could do the same with a rubber mallet and a 2x4. This might not be the best advice so let me get Thorogood boots attention and see what they have to say.

    • @jsj9935
      @jsj9935 8 лет назад +1

      The hard spot is right in the middle of the heel cup. I'd say its about the size of a dime and maybe an 1/8 inch or so high.
