      Amazing driving! The only thing I would mention is that you could lift the clutch pedal a bit earlier during the hill-toe so it acts properly. In this current scenario, the late release of the clutch after revving the engine is causing the clutch discs to do the heavy work, breaking the car, since the RPMs has dropped. It would also spare your clutch discs life quite a bit, plus gaining a few seconds around the track and after each gear reduction.
      Anyways, I will always be a fan of this incredible car.

    • @toddyboy563
      @toddyboy563 4 года назад +222

      Dinky-Di It’s a quick pump on the brakes as you noticed. Builds pressure in the brake pedal and pushes the brake pads closer to the disc, so there’s less of a “dead spot” when pedal is pushed on initial braking 👍🏻

    • @moradelkaoukabi2971

    • @ICEMANZIDANE
      @ICEMANZIDANE 4 года назад +109

      Dinky-Di Dead Pedal is the most left pedal. He is „disciplined“ by always putting his foot there when not needed.
      Other question was about tap on the brake pedal.
      That is done, mostly on these kinda race cars, to build brake pressure and make the brake temperature a bit higher.

    • @MORC
      @MORC 4 года назад +42

      @Dinky-di they are correct about the dead pedal, it’s far left he rests his foot there when not needed. I tend to leave my foot resting on the clutch pedal which is bad. I have heard the reason for the brake pedal pump ( in addition to what has already been mentioned and I believe is correct) is that you want to make sure you have brake pressure at all before you get to the braking zone. If brake temps have boiled your fluid and the pedal is soft you need to start downshifting and pumping that brake pedal.

    Love it. All of it. But try to hit the gas just as you are letting the clutch out instead of as you are depressing it. The rev match needs to bring the engine speed up to the transmission speed while engaging the lower gear. This prevents deceleration torque from over-braking the driven wheels, thus helping you not to spin under braking. You are doing a fantastic job with your footwork, just too soon. You can hear the engine revs going up again when you engage the clutch, long after the blib... Great driving and awesome car!

      What's preloading? Is that why he taps the brake while on throttle before the downshift?

    • @CriticoolHit
      @CriticoolHit Год назад +1

      @@truejayoh Pre-loading can refer to many things. You pre-load a clutch so that the plates and springs are all under tension 'just' before you're ready to shift, but not under load so as not to drag the engine. The other preloading I think I was referring to was suspension pre-loading. You can tap the brake, come off power (open the clutch) or direct steering input, all cause force to be exerted on the suspension in the direction effected. So to put it all together it was impressive that turn after turn he wasted zero efficiency of the vehicle by braking with an open clutch, meaning he was so god damned precise with his entry and exit speeds that it was not needed. His rev matching and gear selection so precise and timed so well that he barely needed to blerp the engine to catch the shift points. The car was always adjusted perfectly, physically relative to where he was going.
      I didn't even have to re-watch this video from a year ago. This one's burned into my memory as "How it should look when everything is done perfectly"
      EDIT: And of course there is brake pre-loading where in you settle the pistons / calipers equally on the disk with a light tap so that when you enter the next turn you're assured clean even pressure and feel across the rotor, wheel to wheel. tiny tap.

    • @CriticoolHit
      @CriticoolHit Год назад +1

      @@truejayoh I found a very small segment showing the brake falling back on the driver and why he pre-loads it. Go to 6:38 and watch through to 6:42. You will see the brake come back just a bit as he pours on the throttle. This is normal, it's the brake fully pulling back to its rest position where in there is guaranteed no rub. The pre-load just pulls that little bit out of the system. (interestingly enough this is one of the few times he chooses not to pre-load it)

    Why does he sometimes tap the brake while giving full throttle?

    • @airwayintact
      @airwayintact 4 месяца назад +3

      I found information on this technique under, “pad knockback” or, brake-pad knockback”. Essentially the technique shown in this video (tapping brakes briefly with Left foot prior to braking zone), assures that the car will enter the braking zone with the brake pads perfectly lined up against the rotors so there will be no brake pad delay when engaging the brakes in the braking zone. The problem of pad knockback is most common on rough, over-the-curb corner exits when the lateral pressures of the corner plus the jarring impacts of the curb may cause hub movement or other mechanical movement that separates brake pads from their default position and causes a gap between the brake pads and the rotors. This driver is slick.

      He’s making sure he has brakes before he gets to the brake zone. Bumps and spindle deflection can cause the brake rotor to push the pads/pistons back into the brake calipers. If you wait to press the brakes at the threshold, the pedal may go to the floor, or at least partially so. This varies from car to car. For a racer, its safer, and costs him nothing.
