Incredibly interesting. And once again Sam Vaknin manages to explain it in simple digestible terms. Fascinating subject and fascinating how he manages to do that. I could listen to him all day.
Thank you for this very interesting interview! It gives so much understanding and knownledge! It is also frightning to known who they are in both planning and strategic behaviors. And in a impulsive action will kill!
This is great content! I wonder if Dr Vaknin could talk more about self righteous narcissists. They are so different and more difficult to spot than the other types.
Makes me think about a couple of the Dexter series. In particular, the seasons about the Tableau Serial killer, and the Trinity killer. I wish I had listened to Sam, before I watched these.
Serial killing and getting away with it (especially in the modern era of forensics and surveillance) is a lot of work. I wonder how many people fantisize about it but don't act out because they don't want to do the work. Ownership is definitely a thing... multiple killers have discussed "becoming one". I think its like collecting. It is also emotionally safe, because when it is over, there is no one to share your secret. Just the killer is left... until they start bragging about it that is. If they do decide to talk about it, then their narrative of events is the only one. They are unopposed.
The serial killer’s quest for “intimacy” makes me think more of BPD than anti-social PD or psychopathy. Could they be some extreme form of BPD with sadism mixed in?
I think psychopaths are necessary in military battle. I believe more psychopaths volunteer than are drafted. I witnessed remorse in a Korean War pilot. I’m guessing he was drafted.
Dear Sam, I enjoyed your conversation very much and learned a lot from you. Your explanations made me think of an essay by Sergio Benvenuto on perversions, titled “Perversion and charity: an ethical approach”. I don’t know if you have read it, but in this essay he argues that perversions are not about objectifying “the other”, but rather about using their subjectivity for one’s own pleasure. There is an erotic element in the act of killing for serial killers, which shows a lack of charity for the other. Do you agree with this view that we can think of Serial killing as a_so called_ pervert act? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you.
I think very few people know what they are talking about when it comes to serial killers and they all work for the FBI. The others are mumbo jumbo charlatans.
Very interesting and nightmare inducing, thank you.

Dr. Vaknin, please…do you think that some SK are borderlines? Thanks
Extremely rarely.
@@samvaknin BPD folks are too dysregulated to executive function like that. 😂
If caught by a serial killer, would YOU be able to outsmart and manipulate him (taking into consideration your enormous knowledge and IQ)?
No.
🤔

Thats why you have to use discernment when giving praise and support to anyone. Who knows what their real motives are in any profession etc.
