totally off-topic but it's holidays, i'm spending time with the extended fam, and my pre-teen nephews (twins) say -- at the same time -- "Fred, Fucking Johnson" and start laffing looking in the mirror, i know why they said that -- just blown away by their excellent taste in reading material! gave me a good laff. and hope, as they are TNG of genre-fans

Taye Diggs is a criminally underrated actor. Dude's incredible. First clocked him in Equilibrium, and then retroactively remembered seeing him in plenty of other things in very bit roles. His show 'Day Break' that played in-between seasons of Lost(?) was tragically cut short WAY before its time. A Neo-Noire detective Groundhog Day in a super sunny setting, absolutely badass. Like a David Gage video game turned into a show. This film is like Black Lagoon/Gunsmith Cats of Hollywood. Great film, awesome podcast.

Ty is absolutely correct, Wes. You need to do a rewatch. I left the theater on the fence about the movie, but I loved the gun play. I remember reading that McQuarrie's brother is a SEAL that's why Stephan Baldwin's character in THE USUAL SUSPECTS was spot-on with his gun play. I've watched the movie over a dozen times and loved it more and more. FYI, I still have the ticket stub for the movie.
When are you guys gonna talk about Soderberg's THE LIMEY?

It's great seeing Captain Enoch lurking behind Wes.

The fact it’s a movie almost everyone I ask if they have seen it says no is absolutely insane to me. It’s a top 5 for me.

This movie is in my top 10. I can remember seeing it floated in late 99 in a film mag and then it disappeared. I bought it in 08/09 and loved it. I recommended it to my bro, we never agree on movie choices, and he went out and bought it after borrowing mine. It's a criminally underrated movie and the characters are in my opinion very well crafted. I also think Ryan Philippe was outstanding in this. He really discarded his pretty boy image and gave a great performance of a thug with a glimmer of hope. Del Toro breezed it. Caan was awesome and the shot outs are widely excepted as one of the most accurate displays of gun play ever commited to the big screen. For some reason I can see it being remade and ruined. I hope I'm wrong on that. Great review and I have subscribed.

I own every mainline Ghost Recon game, love the series. I played Wildlands with 3 other friends on the hardest difficulty, with our HUDs completely off. Was a blast!

Del Toro asks Ryan to get his coat from the motel (Del Toro knows Lewis has the shotgun). But Del Toro's coat is outside hanging on the side mirror of the van, but Ryan doesn't see that until after he almost gets shot by Lewis and is grabbed by Del Toro. I always thought that was the reason Ryan pointed his gun at Del Toro.

I saw the preview in the theater and really wanted to see it. Then it just disappeared. I found it some years later in a DVD bargain bin and immediately snapped it up.

I think James Caan could have shot Ryan Philippe in the head and he chose to shoot them in the legs to give them a fighting chance for survival. The amount of elevation change with his aim is a long up to down change. I think he was originally aiming for the head of Philippe as he was not wearing head protection and he could have easily taken that shot. Also, bodyarmor does not have protection on the sides so even if he shot him in the torso area, he would have killed him.

I don’t know if you guys will see this but have you watched For All Mankind? The fan message boards continually speculate that it’s a “prequel” to the Expanse. Diehard Expanse fans, like me, see that they are using many of the same themes, but also the future could be more like Star Wars.
Would love a deep dive if you’ve watched it.

Oh man, another of my faves. I bought this on DVD when it came out and it's sat on my shelf still. One of my 200or so movies & shows i can dip into when my broadband goes down. Good thing too actually coz you never actually see it on streaming services anyway.
I think there was a misunderstanding here about that opening scene. It's not there to show them as low skilled, low level bad guys. It's there to show that they just don't give a s*it and kind of like a scrap, just for the sake of it.

I'd argue it was not about their skill they just got overwhelmed by the size of the crowd. Kind of like the ending shootout too.

Ryan Philippe was less than convincing. Could have been a great movie. Also, the reason their point of aim changes during the kidnapping is to signify it's not Juliet Lewis they're protecting, it's the baby. Or not.

I am SO with Wes on this. I have wanted to love this film for years, but it just never resonated with me. Some cool scenes, but as whole film, nah.

Just watched it. I agree with Wes. I found the soundtrack weird and adds nothing to elevate the movie and only detracts. It should compliment and add tension but weakens.

Could you please make a separate playlist for Deep Dive Review episodes?
I haven't watched some of the movies yet. But when I'm done, it would be easier to find the corresponding reviews, if they are all in a separate playlist.
