One thing on Shadow and one thing on Sonic If you line up the events of Gerald and Shadow, Gerald has no way of reaching the Arc while he works on Shadow in Prison Island. The Blueprints in his cell also imply that he was working on a way to have the ARC crash land into Earth, but again, had no means to do so. So the reason he reprogrammed Shadow was to not only carry out his mission to destroy the Earth, but also code in the blueprints and workings of the ARC to have it hurdle down to Earth. So that Shadow when he goes to the Arc after his talk with Eggman, he was the one to reprogram the ARC. Minor point with Sonic. GUN was instead using Sonic as a scapegoat to frame him so no one has to know about Project Shadow and they can discreetly work to remove Shadow permanently. SA2 is a great plot with terrible, terrible conveyance.
Shadow and Rouge have a such a ride-or-die dynamic. They develop such a bond of trust where they are both honest and vulnerable with one another without filter. A candor they hardly afford to any other character. Shadow despite his aloofness trusts Rouge and jumps to her aid almost without thinking, and Rouge cares deeply and abashedly for Shadow's well-being such that it infuriates and saddens her at times that Shadow keeps getting dealt such a bad hand. She goes so far as to openly swear loyalty and offer him someone to lean on should ever need it. Along with Omega, Rouge is easily Shadow's closest friend in the main canon. Though, he'd be hard-pressed to admit it.
I honestly think he'd have to be put into some sort of "forced to tell the truth" mode to ever actually say it. If forced to give an answer that isn't "Hmph. I don't *need* friends." Like say if Cream or Amy needled him hard enough on the subject, I think he'd probably say Omega, even if deep down he knows it's Rouge because Omega's the safest answer. Kind of a "Fine, if you're going to make me pick someone, I'm picking the robot who calls it the Geneva Checklist."
Personally, I think you missed a Nat 20 scene. The end of Shadow's campaign shows him taking off his inhibitor rings to destroy an army of Mephiles clones, saying "if the world chooses to become my enemy, then I will fight like I always have"
Also interesting notes to make: Shadow fighting Sonic is likely due to Shadow and Sonic’s inherent rivalry. Even without memories their rivalry is just on sight as seen in Adventure 2. Shadow’s bias against Emerl is also implied to be because of his own guilt over being used as a weapon by Gerald, Eggman, and GUN, as well as the fact that he views himself as more of a force of destroying evil more than a person. Shadow very rarely cares about himself and his own wellbeing, and is a very reactionary character compared to Sonic, so Emerl having such a similar history to him yet becoming as proactive and gaining self-worth is…unusual to him to say the least.
The reason Shadow tells Eggman that he’ll grant him a wish is because that’s low key what Shadow was created to do. Shadow is spending the entire story of SA2 trying to fulfill what he thinks is Maria’s dying WISH. When in reality, his memories were manipulated into fulfilling Gerald’s Wish for revenge.
Also he immediately changes immediately even at the end realizing what Maria’s real wish was. Hell in the last story teaser in game it ends with “dreams are eternal”.

Ten endings, and each playthrough takes around an hour and a half--assuming that you don't skip cutscenes you've already watched. That is not that bad. Compared to Sonic Heroes, which is four campaigns, with only two of actually worth playing, ten relatively short routes which has an incredible amount of variety is a great. The ten endings also play into the game's core theme, which is that Shadow is not just good, he's not just bad, and that he becomes a hollow fragment of his true self if he doesn't uncover the complete truth of his past. The true ending is a Shadow who has dug deeper than the ones we see in the main story, he didn't accept any of the answers he found, he searched until he uncovered his whole self, the black-hearted evil, and the brave-hearted hero. it's important to the game's story that you have those ten endings, and it's especially important for the gameplay. Fortress(Hero) -> The Ark(Hero) -> Space Gadget (Hero) -> Cosmic Fall(Hero) -> Black Comet (Hero) -> Final Haunt (Hero) -> Last Way. Like, There is a bit of logic here. Shadow is willing to work for the clear bad guy for his own goal, and I don't mind Shadow showing signs of regression, as with this time line he does have a turn around. It is basically just Sonic Adventure 2 character arc repeat this way. But honestly, don't really mind because the context is slightly different, and we do get a different take on the ending. Going through the same arc twice, ends up with a different end point is kinda interesting to me. It also accounts for Shadow collecting all the emeralds needed, as well as showing the full B-plot of the Team Choatix mission which is sorta critical to the final act you know? Yeah, It is head canon. But I feel it makes sense. Even if you do have to make what I feel are fair assumptions.
Shadow is lawful neutral. His law is to look out for himself and honor his friends. His highest priority is looking out for himself, which is why he's lawful neutral rather than lawful good. Everything he does outside of that is either because he was manipulated by someone evil; lawful, Black Doom, neutral, Eggman, or chaotic, Gerald, or he's simply following his code of honor and the friend he's following is outside of his alignment, neutral good; Maria, chaotic neutral; Rouge, true neutral; Omega, or chaotic good; Amy.
As of what I've read, Shadow doesn't do anything crazy in the IDW comics (which are canon, last I checked), but I will say that he does get a major chaotic stupid moment when he doesn't listen to Sonic and Rouge when they tell him not to touch the zombots and ends up getting infected himself, making everything worse.
Actually thinking about that comment for a doctor asking too test Shadow for his immortality and Shadow understandably not being too trusting of. Tails get on that. You're probably one of the only people who Shadow trusts enough to go along with, and smart enough to do something good with whatever research can be done.
I'd like a measurement how much a character fluctuates along an axis. Neutral good is decent and it really fits Shadow but there may be a lot of situations a character is doing mainly good or is constantly fluctuating between seemingly lawful and chaotic actions, in a few games Shadow is even a little more neutral but comes back around to being noble and is only really evil in context of Gerald and Blackdoom (possibly just write him up as true neutral but does gain good points by the end or does find himself saving the world). Shadow stays cool on further analysis because he doesn't just play by his own rules to look cool but to make sure no one else controls him while still working with GUN when they happen to be in the right.
With him dealing with his past issues in Shadow Generations the Edgehog has a clean slate I feel that can be capitalised on for any story. Honestly I hope with his increased prominence this year that he gets a true sequel story that's all his own.
"so I wanna see what [Shadow's] future holds" > cut back to Shadow being put back in a stasis because the people fear him I know that was specifically because of Iblis' release but who's to say that the next big world-ending event or eldritch monster released won't cause that depressing
Wait a minute, most of the inhabitants aboard the Ark WERE scientists! That's why the only survivor of the Ark raid was Abraham Tower, the current commander of G.U.N..
23:00 "Il'd rather be ruled by robber barrons than a benevolent tyrant... exetera." - Shadow to Black Doom. (Wait, Black Doom only wants to protect humanity, so they can use them as livestock, or somthing.)
I like that Shadow is a good guy at his core and every situation of him doing evil is due to him being manipulated by outside forces. Because of this he's learned to become cynical of those around him, preferring to see things for himself than to rely on others to tell him what is going on. In the end we get a character who is able to see through bullshit faster than any other character. It's just sad that it's due to him having been used and lied to so much that he's learned that skill. So if anyone ever gets mad that Shadow doesn't immediately help Sonic and friends I always point out that it's due to his desire to find things out for himself first. Even good people with good intentions can be mistaken.

You think Sonic Rivals is obscure canon? Look up Sonic Runners, a discontinued ios game that contains canon events that are referenced in following installments. Also Sonic Chronicales: The Dark Brotherhood which was designed to be canon but can no longer be considered canon due to a Ken Penders being a cockwaffle.
Before I watch, calling it now that he's Neutral Good. Shadow does do a lot of good, even when it doesn't benefit him. Yes he's at odds a lot of the time with Sonic, more so out of bad writing and less about different goals and methods, but ultimately is seeking to protect and save people, especially after he switches sides at the end of SA2. He's not as altruistic as someone like Tails, but a little less selfish than someone like Sonic and that adds layers to his actions. However I still firmly believe that Shadow is overrated, anyone can feel free to fight me on that, but I do like his character for the most part. He's at his best when he's not written to be impulsively edgy and combative for no reason. Some examples being SA2, Sonic 06, and Shadow Generations. The problem is always the writing for a myriad of reasons that hopefully will change with time.
I would like to see an Alignment video on Ragna the Bloodedge from Blazblue There are a metric butt ton of side things to look at though outside of the 4 main games. You got some side stories in guides iirc, the Remix/Variable Heart Mangas, and the Phase Shift Novels

Yeah, Sonic x Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings is REALLY good. I know it's a very small "ad copy" tie-in, but it's a way better 5 minute short than that Netflix Tomb Raider show was as a full series. An adaptation nomination would have been a cool, if also odd, grab.
21:44 I mean, even if you saw the true ending, you have to be REALLY bad at the game for the final fight to take as long as it needs for that eggman line to come around.

...The better version of Eggman Nega is in Sonic Rush. As for Shadow, I actually like his character, but NOT all the games he was in during the 2000s. His own spinoff, as an example, was janky to play, while the True Ending FORCED you to get all 10 other endings. Is he my favorite rival for the Blue Blur? It's complicated, as everyone forgets the rivalry between Sonic and Knuckles including the some of the writers (partly due to the mess that is the Archie multiverse for the franchise). Also might want to make sure you have the right hashtags for this as it says Edgerunners and 2077.
Also I hope you do Big the Cat at some point. I have a weird amount of opinions on that character and how they are handled in the games. Unrealized potential in a nutshell.
I think you guys hit the big reason "edgy" characters started to be seen in a negative light, right near the end. It's not just the bitterness and the anger at the world, it's the difficulty in progression. Character development is a difficult thing, and often falls flat far harder than anything in Sonic, and this can come out hard with a character who's built on pain and trauma and deep-seated trust issues. Having them simply get over their past is hardly believable, since trauma doesn't work that way, but it can also be a little irritating to have the character make tons of progress only to be presented in their "cool", popular state they had before all their character growth. You can easily have them either remain static or grow through the same lessons over and over, and that can get tiring. Not to mention sometimes the efforts taken to make a character edgy are excessive, over-the-top and honestly out of place with the rest of the universe. Seems Sonic did this pretty darn well, but it certainly is a hard character to get right. Anyway, I honestly know next to nothing about the franchise, but I find it kind of sad that Amy's getting shipped with Shadow instead of Sonic. Shadow feels better suited to Rouge, and Amy to Sonic. But then, again, I don't know all that much anyway. I'll just hope movie 4 has her with Sonic.

That's not a bad idea. Thoguh I'm not sure Tail's expertise is in the right aria for that.
I do like Josh's voice. I wouldn't mind him come around from time to time.
Surprise Shadow video? Heck yeah! All hail Shadow!
Honestly I hope with his increased prominence this year that he gets a true sequel story that's all his own.
...Wait, the "FIND THE COMPUTER ROOM!" line is within the cannon route? Good...
"so I wanna see what [Shadow's] future holds"
> cut back to Shadow being put back in a stasis because the people fear him
I know that was specifically because of Iblis' release but who's to say that the next big world-ending event or eldritch monster released won't cause that
depressing
Been waiting for this since the Sonic video. Thank you for finally doing this video! Awesome job!
6:05 I really want to call that fib chaotic neutral, for messing with Eggman.
He absolutely needs to do Snapcube Shadow
Wait a minute, most of the inhabitants aboard the Ark WERE scientists! That's why the only survivor of the Ark raid was Abraham Tower, the current commander of G.U.N..
23:00
"Il'd rather be ruled by robber barrons than a benevolent tyrant... exetera."
- Shadow to Black Doom.
(Wait, Black Doom only wants to protect humanity, so they can use them as livestock, or somthing.)
Shadow: Charlie, I will continue to fight... with your wish in my heart. Your wish for everyone to have a chance at redemption.
Sonic's been falling from space plenty of times and walked off just fine.
But when Shadow does it suddenly it's wierd
I like that Shadow is a good guy at his core and every situation of him doing evil is due to him being manipulated by outside forces. Because of this he's learned to become cynical of those around him, preferring to see things for himself than to rely on others to tell him what is going on. In the end we get a character who is able to see through bullshit faster than any other character. It's just sad that it's due to him having been used and lied to so much that he's learned that skill. So if anyone ever gets mad that Shadow doesn't immediately help Sonic and friends I always point out that it's due to his desire to find things out for himself first. Even good people with good intentions can be mistaken.
a little correction on how shadow survived falling to earth "somehow"
in the dialog in one if the ending battles I think Shadow the hedgehog's
Eggman mentioned that he IS the real one as he saved him during the fall to earth
actually a TON of really important info comes from final boss dialogs
First off, mentioned in the video. Second off, that doesn’t explain how he survived
@@aionicthunder
Fun way to start Christmas eh XD
Anyway First off, I wrote the comment *AS* I watched the video and clearly based on what was said later the man didn't actually experience the dialog himself or possibly even play all the games and has a script written either by others or after taking cliff notes from others so honestly points kinda meh either way
Second off, Well... I mean he's Eggman he probably used one of his Eggmans robots or something it ain't that hard to speculate XD
Oh look, another Super Saiyajin for me to do some Krillin Shillin during!
.

Nah, I’m just playing. The visual similarity is there, but I’m not going to derail.
There is a canon path in Shadow the Hedgehog, it's path 11 after completing the 10 main paths
No spoilers for Sonic 3: Shadow fans, especially Stuart, are gonna LOVE his portrayal.
BlackWarGreymon is one of my favorite Digimon too especially since I just rewatched 02 in sub Nobuyuki Hiyama was amazing I instantly recognized his voice it blew my mind hearing one of my favorite VA's voicing one of my favorite Digimon
"That they once loved so hard that their love turned to ash in their mouths."
This is an all too perfect way to describe this archetype.
Shadow the edgehog is my favorite sonic character because of his color scheme looking cool
Dude, seeing josh was MIND-BLOWING!
Archie comics are peak, can’t exactly top a world record holder for longest running comic based on a videogame
Hey, Im not sure how suggesting characters works, but i think a Total Drama video would be funny. Maybe Heather, Duncan or Mike (while also tackling his Alternate Personalities).
As a personal request, Im very curious about how you'd view Cody. He's one of my favorite characters but whenever someone talks about him, he's either completely demonized or heralded as being one of the nicest contestants, and I don’t really think either are true. So maybe you can put some perspective in there.
Whether you do any of these or not, I just want to say I adore these videos and greatly appreciate you for making them.
Also for joshscorcher, I cant wait for Blaze vs Starfire. Its gonna be LIT
Chaotic Neutral Blast.
17:53 I can’t see this and not think of Dan from Game grumps going ‘oh f*ck, why does he have a machine gun’ through laughter
I just finished this vidio.
I enjoyed the jokes and puns throguhout, as well as the hummor provided by how frustrated you were getting.
thank you :)
@@TheLoadingCrewimagine if sonic prime and IDW were included. I’m pretty sure this video would be over an hour long lol
. Oh and that Japanese only Sonic channel story where Shadow is forced to be a in a band with Infinite because of a phantom Ruby prototype and the Sonic channel stories. Man this franchise is strange but it’s great.
Year of Shadow has been great
Let's hope Sonic Movie 3 ends it in style
Favorite Sonic character, can not wait to see if he winds up Chaotic Good like I've perceived him for years 😂
I wonder where shadow got the money to afford those tickets he gave amy also i kinda wonder what shadows opinion would be on keanu reeves voicing him.
Jewel containing the ultimate power, WEED
Sonic Battle is the best. I wish there was a console Sonic fighter. Also purple chaos control energy makes more sense to me than the usual yellow.
edgy is not dependent on any alignment anyway, so even by that logic, the argument of someone being too edgy to be good fall apart
"Good" as in morraly, or quality wise?
Maybe also do an alignment video for Shadow from the third Sonic Moive
You think Sonic Rivals is obscure canon? Look up Sonic Runners, a discontinued ios game that contains canon events that are referenced in following installments. Also Sonic Chronicales: The Dark Brotherhood which was designed to be canon but can no longer be considered canon due to a Ken Penders being a cockwaffle.
Chaotic control.
Now I wanna see you cover Dark Pit from Kid Icarus Uprising
I would like to see an Alignment video on Ragna the Bloodedge from Blazblue
There are a metric butt ton of side things to look at though outside of the 4 main games. You got some side stories in guides iirc, the Remix/Variable Heart Mangas, and the Phase Shift Novels
I unironically liked the Shadow the Hedgehog game when it cam out. I was in middle school mind you XD
But damn I didn't realize there was so much more lore than Adventure 2 battle, Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog. Also I keep forgetting 06 exists beside for easy bad game memes lol.
I love Shadow. I really hope he gets another game after Sonic X Shadiw did so well.
Not gonna lie, I saw this alignment coming... though I expected a few more dings to the right. Not gonna say any more, in courtesy of those reading comments while watching.
Funny enough, because I tended to only play my gameboy sp as a kid, my first sonic game ever was Sonic battle followed by the first 3 handheld platformers
...The better version of Eggman Nega is in Sonic Rush.
Perhaps one day I'll patron a video of Kain & Raziel from The Legacy of Kain franchise.
So, will we eventually get a What D&D Alignment is BlackWargreymon?
And from my personal bias, I'd want to see one on Impmon/Beelzemon
Starting a Kingdom Hearts alignment series would be interesting 🤔
I really hope you do Emerl from Sonic Battle in the future.
Only one hedgehog remains.... Amy Rose. Are you up to the challenge?
NAT 20 soundtrack for Sonic Adventure 2! Easily top five best soundtracks ever made for a game❤
Is it just me, or does the Sonic francise like to pull characters towards chaotic-good?
What alignment is Shadow? I dunno, what alignment did you give to Vegeta? 🤣
I'd....kinda like for Ryouji (did I spell that right) from Persona 3 to get a DnD alignment video someday........
i saw joshscorcher, clicked so fast my mouse melted
super sonic speed
AW HELL YEAH
. . . this episode is wild 😂
Piccolo: PERFECT ORBIT MY ASS!!!
Oh i descover the fireyjoker the last week's
Is it odd that I consider Shadow(after he's sorted himself out) to be Chaotic Good, Sonic Neutral Good, and Silver Lawful Good?
Shadow is a good boy
DO IT DO IT DO IT
Requesting Glados, Wheatley, and Cave Johnson from Portal. Also Shiroe, Naotsugu and Akatsuki from Log Horizon.
Called it.
MY GOAT!
FINALLY!
Eyo!? Joshscorcher!? My GOAT!?
yea who was in charge if G.U.N at the time of the raid mister shot now talk later form Godzilla movies.
