Hey man, just a quick thought; you mentioned about not using handbrake because you don't like using it. When pulling the handbrake I noticed you wasn't clutching in at the same time, in reality... whenever you use a handbrake (especially in Rally or in Drifting) you want to be clutching in so that you remain in control when the handbrake is released as most hydro's operate simply attached to the rear brake disc (like a motorcycle handbrake near a clutch for stunting, simply just another caliper fitted.) just like you would when you are braking under normal circumstances. The longer you pull the handbrake, the longer you lock up your rears (on purpose) therefore breaking traction momentarily when you need it however, the amount of force should also be taken into consideration as when you pull the handbrake hard more pressure is given the quicker the lockup, softer you pull the slower the lock up, stabby movements good for those moments you need to really save your ass. Or simply just keeping your line right whilst completely sideways using clutch + gas to send it. Hope this came across as helpful not as a being a dick, it's just something I really noticed and from personal experience (been driving virtually since as long as I can remember with a wheel since like Forza + Gran Turismo). My timing may be a little off in all reality but I don't think the game takes that into account when using the handbrake, I could be wrong though. The main reason I do it is kind of out of habit and so that I can build up boost and torque to power through the rest of the corner/exit. Unfortunately as of right now I believe Dirt Rally handbrakes are set up to be either on or off, I don't think they have a gradual curve like handbrakes do IRL, again I could be wrong about that though. @@RoadsideTV08 I think in the case of Dirt you're absolutely right. I think Dirt5 may have resolved that though I'm not too sure. It's not more for yourself to be honest, it was for people who sim race / don't drive I guess. When building the boost, I tend to just half depress clutch right before it bites, increase revs and drop it like it's hot. Entering corners I use the momentum of car to flick sideways, depress clutch, downshift, pull e-brake, then just before i hit the apex whilst in that momentum; clutch again to catch the revs, and apply throttle out if I feel it's over correcting then i'd just touch the footbrake. "Slow in, fast out" style. It's a ballsy move though. With shifting also, I tend to block shift (low / high gearing similar use to driving a truck.) So from 5, 3, 1. 50+mph, 30-50mph, 10--20mph. Got it. The two most important things are throttle input, brake input, steering input, balancing the weight and angle management, but only for the rear wheel drive cars.
Great summary! This is what makes the game interesting compared to arcade racing - the learning curve is steep and the absolute limit is really hard to obtain.
It was so funny watching you try and talk about FWD as though you knew what you were talking about, and the suggestion that any of these cars “didn’t have handbrakes” mwuahaha priceless. I grew up living on roads that most people consider rally roads and have been driving them since I was 5 years old on everything from ATV’s to Heavy machinery, 4x4’s and sports cars. Handbrake is one of the BEST ways to break traction for FWD on corners, but you only tweak it and only as you near the right spot IN the bend, not before, otherwise the car oversteers and you end up pulling into the hedge (just like you did). Everything else was fairly accurate, nice effort, and nice presentation.

One of the best videos on Dirt Rally I've come across. Excellent and comprehensive advice. I'm surprised to hear that older cars, in real life, don't have a hand brake?? I guess that must mean a 'hand brake' is different to a parking break? Do any of the historic rally cars have a 'proper' hand brake?
In a 70's car or even 1980's the handbrakes were to weak and so did not lock the wheels up. They re-engineered them in rally cars. I remember the first time I pulled the handbrake on a 4x4 subaru Leone I was surprised, as that locked up the front wheels 😲

I tried to do these videos in the same style that I would talk about them in my streams and because it was different from all the other how to videos for the game. Also because I don't have a lot of free time to make videos so I had to do everything as quickly as possible.
With the front, I floor the floor, brake in the curve without releasing the accelerator, I cross the car and release the brake and go straight... it works better for me than with the weight transfer, turning so that the rear wheels slide
Fairly sure the fulvia has a handbrake. Other than that ver good and informative video. Useful for me to see footwork and wheel as I'm transitioning back to a wheel and pedals after a long time of being wheel-less. Not since the PS2 days.
Thanks for the videos, they are very effective. Please at least make a video about the 4WD differential settings, although it would be great to explain the RWD and FWD differential settings as well. Thank you very much for your attention.
I´m jumping quite late into the game, but this is great advice! Totally a game changer, btw what overlay are you using? I´d like to use 3rd persona camera, but be able to see the wheel inputs as well.
The overlay is called Cortextuals Dirt Telemetry, it does not show up on the main screen though, it's used for recording and streaming so it only shows up on there.
Good tutorial but would you consider recording examples and then talking through them rather than doing both simultaneously? It makes it harder to follow the advice you're giving where you're pausing in the middle of sentences to think about what you're doing.
Thanks a lot for this! I went straight from controller to a Fanatec CSL Elite (I probably should have gone to a Logitech first, but I have no regrets) and this is gonna help big time!
i wish they made all of Dirtfish available. What they have is only about half of it. There's a bunch of cool dirt roads going into the woods where you could really practice your cornering better than the open tarmac.
not sure how I ended up here... just did a scandanavian flick turn around a few days ago in my corolla hatchback... decelerated from 50 to 30 with a heel toe down shift to 3rd, gave the wheel a little right, then back left hard and a quick hard brake followed by heel toe down to 2nd, brief clutch and heavy throttle, off the clutch, tires spun for a few seconds and then bit and I'm suddenly going southbound instead of north and the whole world is looking at me in my shitbox.
Get a setup for your car from GTR Technical. These setups make the cars much more drive-able from the get go. The stock setups in this game are awful. Thanks for the tutorial.
This game pisses me off because i have a drift car irl and thats not how a rwd works, it feels like its floating on ice all the time wtf.. this game is dumb but its fun tho.
As I am a decent rally driver on gran turismo sport I thought dirt rally 2.0 would be pretty similar, I was wrong! It is nothing like gt sport. I struggle badly on the higher horsepower cars
Gran Turismo is not called for simcade without a reason. Dirt Rally 2.0 is a rally racing sim which usually have a much steeper learning curve, just like racing in a real rally car. For track racing you probably want something like iRacing, Asserto Corsa or Project Cars 2. Skip the Project Cars 3 if you want a sim, though.
Wow i have been subconsciously tapping the brake before turns for that reason but i never knew why. I guess i failed so many times i figured it out without knowing how it works thats cool
I finished this game in a few hours I'm just glad it was free lol the last section in Spain was excellent but the rallying in this game is unmatched by anything I've ever touched, grab it now for free 👍
Really helpful tips in this and also other videos from you. Thanks for that! I wonder if you could share with me what software are you using to stream your racing gear inputs. I really like how simple it looks
for front wheel drive (double note this for the fiesta) you want to keep the throttle on, turn in, then add brake. some cars you need to lift but you really should avoid it. team oneals has a great video on it. but by lifting youre loosing speed and stability
@@RoadsideTV08 Jokes aside, these are great videos and deserve more recognition as reddit didn't do for me. I noticed you haven't covered a video about in-game input setup as well as wheel set up i.e. range and sensitivity. Any chance you will cover this in the future?
I'll be honest, I haven't played this game in a while, but if that's something that would be helpful I could. The quick answer is personally I use 360 degrees rotation and left the sensitivity as it was "stock"
pff man.. free play... why didn't i think of that.. haha, But today i did it! in the Lancia still, the first car, but everything clicked today! I finished Argentina decently! Not first, not last, just... decent.. Find it a real hard area to drive, due to the unforgiving rocks and drops. Doing it in VR going for reality, no hud or anything else, steering wheel and 3 pedals, manual shifting via the steering flippers and handbrake is a button on the steering wheel.. The dream is getting a stick shift and a hand brake as well. Slowly getting there ,but.. anyway.. i think i got the feel now.. i am driving the car instead of crashing it ;) Anticipating the corner by what my co-driver is saying and etc...The biggest trick for me was.. treat it like a car and not like a game, hehe. Let my base be driving the car normally, as i would in my own car.. and later... when i am more comfortable at it.. then add the left foot braking and whatever non-normal-road use techniques are used.
Isn't actual svandinavian flick (or at least how most do it): Your right foot heel keeps throttle somewhat up, so you already got enough revs when you come out of break and/or gluch. You tilt that same foot so your toes handle breaking. And left foot handles just gluch?
I think rather than awd being easier to drive its more clear as to what the car is doing because you can't feel the weight transfer in a sim, at least not in typical consumer one. Meanwhile on fwd and rwd you suddenly loose front grip, can't steer and have no inputs as to why other than ruined lap time and close encounter with a tree.
That's a first I ever hear about old rally cars not having a handbrake. I call bullshit on that. It was probably a stock handbrake and a pretty weak one, but it was there and it was definitely possible to use it in a tight hairpin.
I immediately picked up 20 seconds on a 4.4 mile ai race from your weight distribution advice. It's like playing a different game, it helped so much

Nothing more satisfying than drifting with RWD
That is the truth!
i needed this IVE BEEN STUCK IN DEAD LAST IN a long time THx
I wanted to come and say that you basically got me from losing every race to winning every race! cheers!
pulling hand brake on the hair pins on fwd allows the car to turn in and the steering is fairly manageable based on the camber angle of wheels
Thanks for the videos, they are very effective. Please at least make a video about the 4WD differential settings, although it would be great to explain the RWD and FWD differential settings as well. Thank you very much for your attention.
Its wild what just a liitle brake tap will do. Wish i had a sim rig with motion, that would be awesome
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. My worst enemy is the throttle input.
Thanks a lot for this! I went straight from controller to a Fanatec CSL Elite (I probably should have gone to a Logitech first, but I have no regrets) and this is gonna help big time!
Honestly better to go for the premium option, let’s you spend that money elsewhere
Really love how you explain clearly & simply. Thank you.
i wish they made all of Dirtfish available. What they have is only about half of it. There's a bunch of cool dirt roads going into the woods where you could really practice your cornering better than the open tarmac.
im convinced the handling model is not the same in other modes as it is in dirtfish.
I still have much to learn but thank you for the information was very well put the wheel and brakes display really helped me understand better
Glad it helped!
Great video! Very informative and seriously cannot wait for more! Keep it up man!
Very nice guide! Helped me to fix my techniques. Im from NL and you explain verry good!
Glad it helped!
not sure how I ended up here... just did a scandanavian flick turn around a few days ago in my corolla hatchback... decelerated from 50 to 30 with a heel toe down shift to 3rd, gave the wheel a little right, then back left hard and a quick hard brake followed by heel toe down to 2nd, brief clutch and heavy throttle, off the clutch, tires spun for a few seconds and then bit and I'm suddenly going southbound instead of north and the whole world is looking at me in my shitbox.
Love your Scandinavian socks man. Great video.
Great vid I play on controller but it's still the same concepts you got a subscriber mate👍
This game was a breeze when I started off with a fwd but as soon as I beat the first event and bought a rwd car I started eating shit every damn turn😂
Just started playing this in vr. Life saver!
Get a setup for your car from GTR Technical. These setups make the cars much more drive-able from the get go. The stock setups in this game are awful.
Thanks for the tutorial.
The setups from him made my times way more competitive.
Although not quite like his gearing approach, and springs a bit too stiff sometimes
Lots of help from this video to grasp the basics
would be cool if they were to add a feature where we could set up our own cones at the dirt fish school.
"easy cars to drive" meanwhile me after 2 hours or trainimg donut: "you freaking kidding me?"
This game definitely has a steep learning curve
Gran Turismo is not called for simcade without a reason. Dirt Rally 2.0 is a rally racing sim which usually have a much steeper learning curve, just like racing in a real rally car. For track racing you probably want something like iRacing, Asserto Corsa or Project Cars 2. Skip the Project Cars 3 if you want a sim, though.
very helpful for a beginner like me, thank you
Wow i have been subconsciously tapping the brake before turns for that reason but i never knew why. I guess i failed so many times i figured it out without knowing how it works thats cool
Old cars had a handbrake, it was just on the floor between the seats...
Very helpful, you don't find a lot of good videos for Dirt beginners
Glad you found it helpful!
Brilliant video also love the socks.
got it on ps4 bc of playstation plus and I havent played yet so ima try it thanks for the tips my man you earned a sub!!
I finished this game in a few hours I'm just glad it was free lol the last section in Spain was excellent but the rallying in this game is unmatched by anything I've ever touched, grab it now for free 👍
this video deserves more like
Really helpful video man, keep it up!
Thanks, this really helped
Nice socks man. Helped me a lot keep it up 👍🏻
Oh God these socks. I love it. You truly are my hero.
How to find free roam.. I don't see that option and I am glad that noone else has this problem
You can access Free Roam from the garage
Dude I’m more focused on his socks than anything else
Well... I have watched quite a few of your streams and dident know you had a youtube channel. Gonna watch quite a few of these tip videos now
I subbed. Roadside TV got me good imprasion!
Really helpful tips in this and also other videos from you.
Thanks for that!
I wonder if you could share with me what software are you using to stream your racing gear inputs. I really like how simple it looks
I'm glad you enjoyed it! The overlay I use is called Cortextuals Dirt Telemetry
Also, nice socks, lol. Kidding aside, pretty good footwork there. I just started and am learning.
Lancia Fulvia has a handbrake!!! Just look photos!) Don't deceive the people😉 Thanks for your advices)
Lancia Fulvia my beloved
for front wheel drive (double note this for the fiesta) you want to keep the throttle on, turn in, then add brake. some cars you need to lift but you really should avoid it. team oneals has a great video on it. but by lifting youre loosing speed and stability
Dude, you wanna make an apology video for those socks?
Absolutely not.
I've been playing Dirt Rally 2.0 for one year now and my car has never stalled.
How does that happen?
When we see a teaching vídeo, so good like this em Brazil we say: "Que aula!!", thank you for this vídeo and the tips.
bullshit...all you say is kkkkkk and sopa de macaco uma delícia :v
@@maximilianoalcaraz7351 aaahahahahahhaahahahaahahahha não consigo parar de rir kkkkkkkkkkkkkk
pff man.. free play... why didn't i think of that.. haha, But today i did it! in the Lancia still, the first car, but everything clicked today!
Fiat 131 the Best car for me. Love this car so much
Dude you're a great driver!!!
I try my best lol
ty, great video!
Great video, thanks a lot!
This is true, but sometimes RWD is just really fun to drive
@@RoadsideTV08but I don't can drive them I always complete oversteer. I don't get it
@@RoadsideTV08I break turn in and then try to countersteer not even put much presure on the throttle but I oversteer completely
How do I feel out the proper countersteer angle without having wheel feedback?
That's the guy who stole the chipmunks
whats amazing, is i just bought this game cause I LOVE the Lancia Fulvia, and its the car you use....perfection
really thanks for the video! very very helpful
That's a first I ever hear about old rally cars not having a handbrake. I call bullshit on that. It was probably a stock handbrake and a pretty weak one, but it was there and it was definitely possible to use it in a tight hairpin.
It's just the way I choose to play the game to make it a little more challenging and fun
Colorful socks 👍 Perfect for a nice session of rally.
This guy has the coolest socks and I want them
They are Keep It Simple Socks, check them out and you can use coupon code "roadside25" at checkout for a 25% discount :)
thanks for that video it helped me 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hey dude! Nice video!
One question, the steering wheel overlay is in game or something you put on your stream?
It's something I put on my stream, it's called Cortextuals Dirt Rally Telemetry
@@RoadsideTV08 ohhh nice! Thanks a lot!
