I am one year into quilting. I have made nine quilts this year. I have a lot of nice 108” strip trim offs from quilt backings that are wanting a repurpose. This block will help me reduce my scrap pile. I could use my scraps to create a Year of Quilting 2024 Quilt just for me. Thank you for a wonderful idea to bust my scraps. I am a self employed legal secretary so I have a lot of printer paper ready for sewing. I enjoy your channel very much. You are so knowledgeable and a natural teacher. Thank you!
Hi Jessica, Your tutorials are so enjoyable to watch. I feel like I am right there with you at the other end of the table. You make learning fun. Thank you!!
I just found you from another video. You are very good at explaining what you are explaining. I make string quilts to use up scrap fabric. I ve never made one with a color the same in the center but I will now. Thank you.
This is right up my alley. I want to make one of these. I like that the strips can be different sizes and I never thought about using a consistent color in the middle. So pretty!
I like sewing string quilt tops. I don't sew on paper anymore,, I have a cardboard template. I have three shoe boxes filled with different sized strips plus assorted squares, triangles for the corners. Makes for an interesting quilt. Take care. Thank you, Jessica! Marion
Jessica, I have made many string blocks for Charity Quilts and I never new about your second method of not sewing through the paper🤪I intend to try it because it will save lots of time so thank you again for sharing this video with us! It’s nice to see new things that maybe we haven’t seen before so bravo 👏 🥰
The technique of just sewing the first seam to the foundation paper is genius! I have made one string quilt a few years ago and couldn’t decide if I liked it or not. I think all the random fabrics meeting together when the rows are sewn is hard on my brain, but I do like the idea of using the same fabric in the middle of each block. The cross that it makes gives a bit of a planned pattern look which my brain likes😂.
I really want to try this. The quilt will be beautiful. Just so you know, i watch your video every morning before i even watch the news (but not before coffee of course!). You're my favorite quilter.😊
I've made that strong quilt before, and I used black in the centre I used Muslim in mine. I love it. It was so freeing just to see strips. It was so fun. Hope you enjoy yours. Thanks for video
Thanks for this. I've been thinking of making one pf these and have the foundation papers, but just haven't started one yet. This may have given me a push, lol
"I start a lot of new projects!" 😂 Yes you do and thank you for sharing your journey. Your joy is contagious! I always look forward to your videos as you are such a great teacher and very relatable. This looks like a lot of fun and I would like to add it to my "new projects" 🤪I just made a crossroads pattern quilt that makes that secondary pattern too which is a lot of fun. I think the green as the center in your blocks is nice and let's the lighter prints really hold their own.
The one with all of the seams on the paper lays a little bit flatter as you make them but that really has no bearing on the final block. The one with only one seam is easier to take the paper off so quickly. It is a little bit of a adjustment if you are used to making it the other way but you quickly get used to it and it works well.
Oh man, another super fun quilt! I need to stitch faster for keeping up to what fun quilts you are making. Excellent tutorial on this quilt!! Thank you Jessica❤
I enjoy watching your videos you make it look so easy and there’s you’ve had several patterns that I wanna try. I am buying my material and getting ready. I just don’t know which one to start with first.
Thank you for another great tutorial! I am learning so much and quickly adding to my "bucket list" of quilts to try. I can't wait to see this finished Christmas version!!
I REALLY like your presenting and quilting style. So clear and easy to follow.. I appreciate how much hard work it takes to put out these videos. Kathy
Thanks Jessica, I really enjoyed this video; I love making string quilts but I haven't used paper before so I want to try that. Thank you so much. I look for your videos every morning!
Not sure if you have seen Amy Dement’s rectangle string quilt where she used red polka dot fabric in the center and greens on one side and purples on the other. It is gorgeous. I love string quilts that have some structure like yours rather than all different. Looks great. Nice job!
just finished a scrappy one, shortened my stitch length to get the paper out and tried not to have to last strip to close into my 1/4" seam, used telephone book paper 😊
You are a genius darling. I love love love the one seam version. How fast will that be to remove it!! That is one thing I never liked about string quilts. I didn’t like havinflg to take all the paper off. Thanks so much for sharing. Great idea. 🤗👏🤗

Congratulations on making so many quilts your first year! That's wonderful!
Love your blocks! This would be a great project for a retreat. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for that! I'm so happy hear it!

Folding back the paper is genius. I love the dark green that in the end creates the diamond or square effect. You're a great teacher. Thank you!❤

What a beautiful, easy project. I love the contrast patterns and colors of the strips.
Thank you for a good tutorial.
You are a great teacher 👍
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hugs from Singapore 🇸🇬
Ahhh!! So many quilts I want to try! Just need to find the time😊 thanks!
Very cool! Thank you.
Hi Jessica. I've heard of string block but never knew how to make one. The blocks you made are great. I'm learning so much from you. Thank you.
I'm so glad!
Jessica, your a great teacher
Thanks!
The one seam on the paper is genius! I just made a number of Halloween quilts sewing the strips onto a thin batting. Worked great!

I am the same way, I like there to be a little control, so my eyes can rest!
I really want to try this. The quilt will be beautiful. Just so you know, i watch your video every morning before i even watch the news (but not before coffee of course!). You're my favorite quilter.😊

I just finished a string quilt with scraps. It is like an explosion of color!! I will do another one.
Thanks for this. I've been thinking of making one pf these and have the foundation papers, but just haven't started one yet. This may have given me a push, lol

I can't wait to see how this looks in Christmas fabrics. I have a ton of these made with non Christmas scraps.
I'm excited by how the blocks are looking so far!
Bonjour Jessica. Super l’astuce de plier le papier à l’écart de la couture !!! J’adopte. Merci. Régine 🇫🇷🎄
You're welcome!
I enjoy watching your videos you make it look so easy and there’s you’ve had several patterns that I wanna try. I am buying my material and getting ready. I just don’t know which one to start with first.
I hope you enjoy, whichever you choose!
I love these blocks! I have been making them since my mom taught me at 16years old. TFS
Thank you for another great tutorial! I am learning so much and quickly adding to my "bucket list" of quilts to try. I can't wait to see this finished Christmas version!!
Another GREAT tutorial. Thanks, Jessica!!
What great idea!! You can make the square a bit larger to make hot pads for a quick gift. Thank you
I want to make one of these. I'll add it to next year's wish list!!
Thank you for sharing another fun quilt.
I love the layout you chose. This is going to be beautiful!

As always Jessica, this was a great tutorial! Thank you!
I can’t wait to make string blocks on paper using the ⭐️BRILLIANT⭐️ one seam idea!
I’m working on one right now! Love it
just finished a scrappy one, shortened my stitch length to get the paper out and tried not to have to last strip to close into my 1/4" seam, used telephone book paper 😊
Hi Jessica, good morning!! 🙂☕️
Excellent, thank you.
Thx, good way to use up your strings.

Old sewing pattern tissue works great to cut foundation squares. You can iron the tissue flat.
Perhaps this is a good way to rediscover my sew Jo lol
Yes, this project is great for that!! It is so low stress and very fun.
Just wondering if you will be doing a scrappy sampler this year? I am new to your channel and would love to sew along! 🙂
Pretty scraps Jessica. Your quilt will be so festive! Did keep your stitch length the same or did you shorten it?
I shorten the stitch a little if I'm using paper. If using muslin, you won't need to.
@@jessica_dayonThank you
❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
What size is your paper base? Love all the Christmas fabrics for the quilt!
I'm using a 7.5" square but you can use any size at all.
@ Thank you😄
Jessica, on your one made with muslin, I know you said it didn't add much bulk, so did you still put a batting in it to quilt?
I did still use batting.
🙋♀️🇨🇦
Hi. What foot are you using? I use the 97d, but I like yours better. I can’t make out the number.
I'm using 57D.
Quick question; if I use muslin, do I need to worry about the square getting stretched out of shape?
No. If the strips are sewn to a foundation of muslin, they won't stretch.
Mine did not stretch muslin. I cut 1/2" larger and square off block anyway.
@@jessica_dayon perfect!! Thank you!!
@barbgardner5549 that's a good idea!! Thank you!
Can you use batting as your square to sew strings on to?
I wouldn't unless you are doing a quilt as you go method. Otherwise, when you sew the squares together, the batting will be too thick in the seams.
What size are your papers? 7.5 inches?
Yes. You can do any size though.
What type of paper did you use?
Printer paper.
Ok question 1
What vitamins do you take?
Question 2
I assume you don’t sleep😳🤣
🤣 I wish I could sleep less! I imagine how much I could get done that way. But my body needs 9-10 hours a night or I can't function well.
@ holy cow you amaze me
