If you’re on the deck on soviet plane - if you’re not on the yak - you will be dead sooner or later. However when the aircraft got to the acceptance trials the engine needed to be replaced because Soviet engines were not designed to last long. The engine change didn't happen until Jan. 26 of 43. Jan 27 was the first test flight in the acceptance trials and the engine died during causing the aircraft to crash. Flight tests continued with other airframes until another crashed April 5th. At this point it was decided to stop. At this point in time the La-5 was already in service (it's existence directly owed to the I-185 as the I-185 got Lavochkin to put the M-82 into the LaGG-3 creating the La-5) and had comparable performance versions (La-5FN) to what the I-185 was capable of in production making the I-185 redundant. Another reason given is that the I-185 required more duralumin to build, a la metal good for aircraft structure, than the La-5 and the Soviets had to be very sparing of it's use hence why the La-5 and Yaks had a large percentage of them made of wood. Something else that happened was that Stalin and Yakovlev talked about upcoming fighter designs in 43. Yakovlev didn't think that production versions of the I-185 would have been capable of what the prototypes were delivering. All of this combined led to the cancellation of the I-185. At the point of it's cancellation the I-185 wasn't as great a performer as it had been 2 years earlier compared to what was available. The issue is that the aircraft was delayed a year and a half from first test flights to it's acceptance trials and the I-185 went nowhere because of it. A lack of updates to the design also prevented it from staying relevant as time progressed. Hi defyn! I was wondering if you can make some videos where you had a great game and still ended up dying and commented on why you died and gave some inputs on defensive mistakes… great videos!!! :D
Bro I’m using the i225 and it’s just unbelievable. I went from 2 kills and being near dry on ammo to 3-5 kills with atleast 200 rounds to spare these things SLAAAP!
Meanwhile when I use it it can’t turn, can’t retain energy, can barely climb(even after looking up sheets of how to climb with specific vehicles), does no damage, ect ect💀
I always loved this plane but kept reading about how so many people hated it. Never understood it. I'm glad at least Defyn doesn't think it's absolute crap.
That’s because Shavaks only recently got good. So good they’re one of the best if not the best armament for the BR. They used to be trash like the hit-spanos
^ Combine that with the fact that it can't turn and most players love to get into turn fights no matter what they are flying and you get the general hate for it.
Them folks that were complaining that ShVaks weren't strong enough 100% were not using the correct belt then. I know they delete many many enemy planes when I use them.
With more and more people joining only for top tier jets (and/or cas for ground rb) most of the people in prop games are not there to play props anymore but only to grind, the average skill level has took a massive dive in the last 2 years. Nowadays finding a decently skilled player outside of top tier is rare. And with more modern and “cool” vehicles (such as the F-15) being added more and more people will join the game to play that instead of spitfires and bf109, the skill level will decrease even further and the few skilled players will either move to top tier or quit. Certainly stuff such as airfield AA, ticket drain, 25min matches etc. all have had an impact, but (at least the first two things alone) before were not enough to make props not very interesting anymore
I used to use Default because both AP and HE was good depending on the situation. Now I just run Tracers like everyone else, since HE disintegrates planes like 30mm cannnons 😌
Man watching you play RB with 20 ping is sooooo different to my experience. I have to lead way more and start shooting in headons WAY earlier etc. Damn being an aussie with no servers near us.
People saying the shvaks are bad are crazy, shvaks might just be the best cannons in the game right now. I honestly think the MG151's need a buff, it doesn't seem the realshatter patch made them hit much harder, where as with the other cannons like shvaks it's made a huge difference and they just annihilate anything they touch. In comparison to other cannons after the realshatter patch MG151's feel underwhelming to me.
realshatter buff did nothing to the mg151. They actually does decent damage. But only with the HEI (minengechoss) round. You get 4/6 of those in the air belt. The 2 other are practice round. So the gun will alternate between one shot and hit. Furthermore, every type round have different muzzle velocity and drop so they do not hit together but at position. Which make them even less reliable. And they have the worse damage against ground target. So killing pillboxes is near impossible, compared with the hispanos whom only takes 30-60 round to destroy 1. Lastly they have the worst ballistic out of all 20mm. Slow muzzle velocity, high drop, high spread. It always had worse ballistic than the other 20mm, but the ballistic nerf slapped the 151 pretty hard. To fix the 151. Gives it better ballistic. It should have the worst( mineshell does spread more than traditional round) but not by a lot. Add a full mineshell belt. It would make the gun extremely reliable. And make all round type have the same ballistic. So it that it would be harder to aim than other guns, but hit harder.
I have recently been getting killed by these things recently because they jump out and have little engine sound, so I decided to go back and play them as I skipped them due to how shit they were years ago. Now? The I-185's are insanely good. I've been getting snipes from over 1km, you climb well and the energy fighting is pretty good due to the engine.
This thing is NOT an energy fighter. Its a turn fighter You get the drop on some unsuspecting noob in a p51 or some shit, he tries to turn with you because thats the only thing he knows and you instantly get a kill
try out the yak9U that thing is absolutely insane at its br, its a hidden gem for sure. im having around 3-6 kills per game in it, been an old favourite for me
Absolutely, Yak-9U is great. Seems to be fast enough to catch players climbing AFK - once started a match with 3 kills because no one was paying attention
@@PineCone227_ yeah and to top it all off, it has so much more power and stalling capabilities, that. you can basically go vertical and energy fight most if not any fighter at your tier and a bit above, the amount of times i've cought the spit mk9 out, while out climbing him and just energy trapping him is insane.
@@Marco-cg7fb The only plane I remember having "trouble" with in the 9U were P-47's, as if they played smart they'd just regularly outrun me and not let themselves get caught. Was quite annoying as I basically had to wait for them to come to me and couldn't freely dictate the engagement.
the performance of lower tier russian guns shows that there is most definitely russian bias in the game every time i play russian aircraft its like playing easy mode
People have said the cannons suck? Ever since the update to Realshatter I've seen massive success with these planes. La-5... the 2.7 I-16... yea... and I suck at the game. I very prominently remember railing another fighter with god knows how many rounds from my La-5 before the fix and that dude was STILL flying. Guy was leaking fluids everywhere but he was about to get back to base before a 109 came down and finally killed him. Guy apologized for a possible ks but I told him no problem cuz my guns were being ass. Since the fix I've found myself consistently getting the kill with the first shot or two that hits compared to before as long as I can hit it obviously. If it isn't a kill immediately it does a level of damage that's absolutely crippling to whoever took it to the extent they aren't flying anymore. You're worse than me at this game if you say these things don't work... to say the least you are doing something very wrong. I'll add insult to injury: I play on console to :)
On the yak's i have been flying, basically since i played them for the first time, with ground belts on the shvaks. Mainly coz they seem to have the most HEF in the belt, anyhow they are rather inconsistent for me. Sometimes they absolutely obliterate enemies in one tap and other times they just dont seem to do damage. This week in one of my matches i got on the six of someone, think it was a bf 109, and he just would not die
Tracers are the best, the hef is okay but just doesn't chainsaw bits off like the fit does. I don't really understand this because the hef seems to do the same/slightly more damage in protection analysis, but in game the stealth (1/2 hef) does noticeably less than tracers
Maybe play the P-38E? I killed an I-185 in it earlier today (the fool went into the vertical fight, when i had much much more speed and energy, instead of the horizontal fight, where the P-38 is awful), and this vid reminded me of it.
A P-38E will beat the I-185 in a horizontal turn all day. With flaps the P-38E can turn with a 109E, albeit briefly. Something neither version of the I-185 can ever hope to match. Thus if the P-38E uses it's flaps it can dance around the I-185 so long as it has the energy to do so. The issue is that flap use eats all of the energy that the P-38E has and the P-38E isn't exactly capable of getting it back quickly.
BUHAHAHAHAHAA!! 800m/s is slow? Mg151 has 785-710m/s, Type II has 750-720m/s, Ho-5 740-702m/s Only americans AN/M2 and Hispanos beats it, but since 'mericans do not knew whats good for them and mostly used 0.5 cal, it's mostly brits with their sparkpanos that has greater velocity
My personal experience with this plane is im always against players at your skill lvl or better (~~and obviously against third party program users~~), the climb is not as good as advertised and while the guns are really good, I personally feel the plane seems to lose its tail (and its ALWAYS the tail) to any 7.7+ that connects with it for whatever reason. I am NOT a medium to high skill player and I almost exclusively grind planes for anti-plane use and CAS for ground RB (the actual air RB)
Defyn, can you try the American P-43A-1, looks like an early Thunderbolt but without the fun CAS ordenance. (Dunno why it is an Exclusive for its own nation but free in the Chinese TT, should be the other way around. )
The P-43 is in fact where the Thunderbolt came from. The P-47 was the P-43 built around a turbocharged R-2800 engine. The airframe was simply enlarged to be able to take the R-2800 and turbocharger. As for why the P-43 is a premium in the US tree but in the Chinese tech tree? The P-43 was tested by the US but not accepted into US service but was bought by the Chinese as the Chinese needed anything they could get.
Hey defyn, I was wondering... Do you do the commentary while flying the planes or record it while editing the video? Or is it a mix of both? Thanks in advance!

Shvaks have been treating me really well after the realshatter fix, seeing as the tracer belts are fragmentation rounds.
The stealth rounds easily rip bombers/fighters wings off or snipe the pilot. I love the plane
i dont know why but the flap break jumpscared me
“I don’t like Shavaks”
Sounds like someone chose the wrong tree.
I always loved this plane but kept reading about how so many people hated it. Never understood it. I'm glad at least Defyn doesn't think it's absolute crap.
Basically defyns opinion is the only one I trust on the internet, Adam and jengar aswell, the I-185 is good, it's a bit fockewulfish
That’s because Shavaks only recently got good. So good they’re one of the best if not the best armament for the BR.
They used to be trash like the hit-spanos
^ Combine that with the fact that it can't turn and most players love to get into turn fights no matter what they are flying and you get the general hate for it.
Aesthetics wise its my favorite USSR plane, love it.
this is the best soviet prop fighter so far, i use it even at 6.0 and it stil performs very well
That’s kind of a stretch tbh
Them folks that were complaining that ShVaks weren't strong enough 100% were not using the correct belt then. I know they delete many many enemy planes when I use them.
6:40 Happening most of the games now, bombers just go afk or camp and is a brainpain to dealt with
Where do you find these paid actors? I want to hire them. Seriously though, nice video :3
This was my choice over any Yak or Lavochkin. This can actually dive instead of ripping its wings and has a normal amount of ammo.
I really like both the I-185s, they're not broken OP but most players are too shit to take advantage of its weaknesses
Saw a guy going 3 and 0 in sim against 9.7-10.7 jets in this plane.
Defyn id love to see you play the Prem American Ki-61 for its broken matchmaking and the Ho-103s
holy crap the flap ripping at 5:16 made me jump lol
Very satisfying video defyn!
My fav planie together with m71
i love gunboats and funny looking planes the cac boomer and the i 185
I used to use ground target belts on Shvaks, but now I use tracers with full FI-Ts
I used to use Default because both AP and HE was good depending on the situation. Now I just run Tracers like everyone else, since HE disintegrates planes like 30mm cannnons 😌
My favorite plane to do the event.. especially 4.3 i-185 could intercept wyvern before they could arrive to bomb..
Personally, I like the shvaks, most planes at low tier carrying them just don't have many ammo.
They were crap before.
realshatter buff did nothing to the mg151.
I feel like this plane is comparable to the Typhoon and 190.
I always thought it flew a bit like a 190
The last clip of AF AA striking his plane XD
What? The AA didn't hit him, he turned his wingtip smoke on.
Thanks
"Like your uncle did". Bahaha! Not sure if I like the game play or the commentary better. 😂
Its a turn fighter
You get the drop on some unsuspecting noob in a p51 or some shit, he tries to turn with you because thats the only thing he knows and you instantly get a kill
Just got this unlocked. I will give it a try today
crazy how a plane like this sits at 3.7 while the spitfire mk5 is at 5.0...

try out the yak9U that thing is absolutely insane at its br, its a hidden gem for sure. im having around 3-6 kills per game in it, been an old favourite for me
Absolutely, Yak-9U is great.
1:47 Bruh went out of context
Ngl i just watch your videos to improve my own gameplay
the performance of lower tier russian guns shows that there is most definitely russian bias in the game every time i play russian aircraft its like playing easy mode
Can you play the regular F6F-5 and the griffon spitfire F MK-XIV?
I fly this one a lot, it's really good fun! :)
1:46 LMFAO!
Interesting that tracers apparently hit the hardest is that just for those guns or other guns as well?
the real shatter changes made the Russian guns basically useless at low to mid brs, now they hit harder than Mike Tyson after 20 cans of redbull
finally some props video!
Second favorite to F1G or F5C, idk it's good.
Yak 9-UT request with 23, 37 and 45mm lineup?
amazing
Could you make a video with the Hurricane?
The only thing I hate about the Shvaks is how slow their velocity is, you have to aim so far in front of fast enemies
Laughs in mk 108's
BUHAHAHAHAHAA!! 800m/s is slow? Mg151 has 785-710m/s, Type II has 750-720m/s, Ho-5 740-702m/s
Only americans AN/M2 and Hispanos beats it, but since 'mericans do not knew whats good for them and mostly used 0.5 cal, it's mostly brits with their sparkpanos that has greater velocity
An/m2 is just the American version of hispanos anyways
The P-43 was tested by the US but not accepted into US service but was bought by the Chinese as the Chinese needed anything they could get.
shvaks go crazy
ive been using this plane alot recently and have problems, What should i do when people are above me (german planes especially)

Hey defyn, I was wondering...
Do you do the commentary while flying the planes or record it while editing the video? Or is it a mix of both?
Thanks in advance!
Usually it is post commentary, only rarely will you see live commentary from DEFYN
For me it's one of the more comfortable plane at that BR range, definitely one I'd suggest for newer players. Or shittier ones, like myself.
i flew the m71 a couple of days ago and it feels like a monster. I want a comparison with the sea fury.
i would say the sea fury would win if played correctly
@@MarkerLKO-232 sea fury seems to turn a lot better with flaps out and have a better post stall control with actually useful flaps but i185 doesn't feel as wobbly, it's very snappy at most speeds
@@MarkerLKO-232the M-71 has a lot of options against a sea fury tho
@@kingghidorah8106 i think apart from the turn rate i think the top speed belong to the sea fury
4.3 I-185 has better climb and roll. Sea Fury has better top speed. I don't know about turn. If I was in a dogfight between the two and in the I-185 I would prefer a vertical fight or some kind of one circle fight like a rolling scissors. Emphasize the better climb/energy generation or significantly better roll.
Will you be making a 'what premium to buy' list for the upcoming sale?
Yes
Defyn: 600 rounds of shvak is a huge ammo pool
Man take a break from russian props
Bloody annoying in my Wyvern when I’m trying to grind the event out I must say
Although I got a four kill game plus a base and some ground targets and it would have been more if a BV-238 hadn’t stayed at his airfield and a P-38 hadn’t hidden in the stratosphere
The I-185 doesn't hard counter the Wyvern as the Wyvern is still around 30mph faster below 2km but it does force Wyvern players to play more passively. They are arguably the most difficult plane for a Wyvern being flown as a fighter to deal with.
Defyn, do you enjoy flying props or jets more?
would you ever consider playing the mystere IVA?
Hey Defyn, do you ever plan on covering the F-100 again? I don't know if it has changed since the last time you flew it, but the match maker has changed quite a bit. I just unlocked it and basically every match is an uptier against all aspect missiles, Mig-19s, and the very rare radar missile. I'm kind of lost on how I am supposed to approach it or if it's just one of those planes that is completely fucked by compression.
You gave yourself the answer already. The F100 wasn't great when it came out and today it is practically worthless. It got power crept and compressed so hard you can't use it, at all
