I made this tonight and my Puerta Rican husband couldn't believe I made it. Been with him 22 yrs and this is my first time making this dish. Will be my go to from now
I have been searching for the longest time and I have tried many different recipes, this is the one! I haven't had a home cooked meal like this since I moved across the country and away from my family. This literally brought tears to my eyes because it tastes like home. There are no restaurants near me that are straight up Puerto Rican, So this hits me in the best way possible! I'm subbing and trying all of your recipes from now on and if they are as good as the rice, then my body scale is going to hate me LOL. Thank you so much for giving me a taste that I've missed for over 6 years now!
🤗 this makes me so happy! I’m so glad you were able to find my recipe so enjoyable and we’re able to get a taste of home 🤗Where I live is very hard to find Puerto Rican restaurants too and the stores don’t always have the traditional things available, so I know the struggle! Thanks for subscribing and I can’t wait ti hear how you like some of my other recipes! If there’s anything in specific you would like me to make a video of, go ahead and let me know and I’ll try my best to make it! 🤗
Puertorrican food in a pressure cooker is an awesome thing. I personally have the ninja Foodi ( which I love) and have an instant pot but now they going to get puertorrican flavor!!, Gracias I am excited😊❤❤
I’ve never tried the ninja. My husband got me mine last year and I’m obsessed with it 🤣 I’m on a mission to try to create as many Puerto Rican meals as I can on it. I was super excited when I made arroz con dulce in it! 🤩
Thank you so much for sharing 😁I’m so glad it turned out yummy!!! You can never go wrong with adding more goodies! 🤗 I love olives too but my kids don’t so I tend to leave them out 🫤
thank you for this recipe, im gonna def. try it! what size instant pot are you using? i have an 8 quart, would all the measurements still be the same? thanks.
I’m excited to hear how it turns out! 🤗I have the 6 qrt. But my mom has the 8 and I’ve done it in hers and the measurements are the same. If you want to, you can add one more cup of rice & simply add one more cup of water, and season it to your liking, the important thing is that the liquid to rice ration needs to be 1 to 1. Also if you want yours to be a little softer just wait until 12-13 minute instead of the 10 minutes of natural release before quick releasing the remaining pressure 😁 thank you for watching! 🤗
Thanks for your tips. Does the rice come out fluffy? I tried regular white rice and not how I like my rice. Still kinda a hard. I felt it needed more cooking. Thanks
It comes out a little firm, but I tend to prefer that lol if you want it a little softer instead of doing a quick release after the 10 minutes, wait until the counter hits 13-15 minutes, then do the quick release. I have also found that after I do the quick release, if I let it sit on “keep warm” the rice does get softer. Hope this is helpful 🙂 thank you so much for watching!!! 🤗
Yes, I’ve made up to 4 cups and it turns out very good as well. I have the 6qrt. You having the 8qrt might make it good for doubling the amount. if you want, try 5 cups and see how it turns out to be safe instead of the 6 cups, let me know how it turns out 🤗
I followed this recipe to a T on my 8 qt IP and ended up getting the “burn” notice. What am I doing wrong? Do I need extra water for the 8 qt? I deglazed the bottom before pressure cooking and everything. Not sure what happened.
Oh no! I’ve never gotten the burn notice with rice, that’s odd. 🫤The water to rice ratio in the instant pot Needs to be 1 to 1. Did you use the rice function button or did you try to manually put the time? Because that would make a huge difference. I use only the rice button. The time for the manual pressure button will be completely different. I wonder what went wrong🤔
I used the rice function, but it switched to “auto” on it’s own. Maybe I added too much protein. That’s the only thing I eyeballed. Would that dry out the water? I ended up finishing the rice on the stove top and it was delicious. I’m gonna try it again in the IP.
Have you ever tried making just plain white rice in there? Does it turn out ok? As long as it’s not dry protein it should be ok. In some instances when I’ve wanted to make more I’ve doubled the water and rice and it still has turned out fine 🤔 I hope that your next batch turns out ok 🙂
Every time I try making rice on the IP, it burns. Someone was telling me that since it’s an 8 qt, it’s a little different because it takes longer to build pressure. Not sure how true that is. I might need to google it and see 😔
Well the great thing about cooking is that you can adjust what you make to your liking 🙂 everybody has their own style, some people like it with some without, if I’m making yellow rice with red beans I drain it, we personally like the liquid the gandules come in so I use it in my recipe. If you personally don’t, that’s ok just simply leave it out. 🙂

Have you ever made more than 3 cups of rice? Do you think I can double this recipe? I have an 8 qt IP.

@@JoyfulYessi how does the cooking time work with jasmine rice? I usually do 2 cups with the rice setting for 15 then release the air.
So you cook it for 10 minutes on rice then leave it in there for 10 more releasing the air?
I press the rice button and once it beeps when it gets to 0 let it naturally release for 10 minutes, then release the air.

Can I use red sofrito?
Definitely!
Do you pressure cook for 4 mins?
I just use the preprogrammed rice button, I don’t do a manual pressure setting.
So u do the rice setting which is usually 12-15 min. And on top of that u do another 10 so total 20-25 min?
Gracias 💪🏻🇵🇷
How much water for the medium grain rice ?
I would keep it in the 1 to 1 liquid to rice ratio
What size can pigeon peas are you using?
I use the 15 oz can
How long did you put it on to cook
I just click the rice button and it automatically sets the time.
@@JoyfulYessi cool thank you
@@JoyfulYessi I have to say you are awesome ! I just made it following your directions and this is the fist time it came out so good ! Gracias
How many quarts is that Instant Pot ??...
Mine is 6 quarts
OK, BORI !!... 🌹
I used the rice setting and after it came to pressure it read 25 minutes why did it do that?
That’s a good question! I’m not sure. Did your rice turn out ok?
@@JoyfulYessi it did!
My mother adds 1 table spoon of brown sugar. Try it and tell me what you think.
I’m definitely going to give this a try!!! I live trying new things!
Helllllss to the noooo, you're suppose dispose the bean liquid and also wash the beans...yuck🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
