Absolutely a glorious outpouring of Mendelssohn's clear yet searching lyricism. When I was still at school it was fashionable to look down on Mendelssohn; then I got to know some of his music and wrote in my diary, "I will never say a bad word about Mendelssohn again." I have kept easily to that vow all my life. It's wonderful that we had such different Romantics in that period: Mendelssohn, Schumann and Chopin., each one supreme in his own way, in the wonderful company of Clara and Fanny.
I had a similar experience. As science sixth formers we had music appreciation lessons to stop us becoming narrow minded boffins, and our music teacher was very dismissive of Mendelssohn. Fortunately, like you, I soon discovered his genius for myself.
Rondo Capriccioso is the work of a absolute genius.Mendelssohn said in his later years that I can no longer produce the quality of what I wrote when I was a teenager !

I think Mendelsohn's sonatas have similarities Beethoven's and Hummel's and Mozart's. Just my opinion.
Not opinion but they are facts my friend.
You better change the title from "Piano Sonata, Op. 6" to "Piano Sonata, Op. 6 et al".
