Aspiring pianists who want to learn this should start with the Song Without Words and then go through the Variations Sérieuses beforehand. That should prepare them for the rigors that this concerto requires.
I’m so happy that I’m listening to Mendelssohn before I die! That would be of a great loss leaving this earth without listening to all this beauty! Thanks for sharing!
My son is playing these two concertos for his Junior school piano competition.Hope he can win something. There are Rach 3 and Emperor ahead of him from his classmates !
Derek Han's performance is admirable throughout. A thoroughly enjoyable concert. Thank you to all concerned ...... It is now a year later. I have decided I really like No 2 better than No1, which for many years was my favourite. So thanks for this chance to "grow".
As a young piano student I opted to learn his concerto no 2 in d minor. Wonderful work though the 2nd movement is not up to the standard of the 1st Concerto's slow mov.
I wish there were more room in publicity for this pianist, Derek Han, of whom I have heard nothing so far. I was tempted to watch Yuja Wang, that video has 2.8 mio views at time of writing, but Derek Han has 60k views, which is OK after all. This makes me think how difficult it is for a pianist like Tiffany Poon (and Derek Han) to reach the public. The second movement of the first (G-minor op.25) piano concerto is beautiful and I recommend listening to that, possibly skipping the rest. :)
I love classical music...I have very little knowledge to be able to comment, other than it sounds much better and makes me feel much better than Mainstream tripe

There is no point in putting it online, this PC exists on RUclips. I just said that I would have been better if Brilliant Classics would have add it. It's not worth insulting me, I personally do not consider any effort to be unimaginable at all.

Amazing energy, and incredible playing by the pianist and orchestra. Truly faultless.
The comfort of Mendelssohn‘s piano works is beyond compare, and unfathomable
this is the best available recording on youtube

How old is he? Good luck to him.
@@catherinejones9396 14. The Rach 3 player is only 11 !
How did he do in the competition? Did he pursue playing the instrument?

Мой любимый композитор! Спасибо!
Wonderful ! Captivating, magically rippling over the keys . Pure beauty. Thanks so much for uploading . ❤❤❤
💗💛💙💜💗💖
Mendelssohn write these great concertos in his early 20's but he already had the technical demand for these works as early as age 8.
i doubt the technical ability haha
Très belle interprétation !!! C'est un très grand compositeur qui mérite d'être mieux connu et aimé... Sa musique est vraiment très riche...
Thanks for uploading!
Bellísima interpretacion

He 'ripples' over the keyboard. This is how people described Mendelssohn piano playing in those days.
Amazing, love it !

I plays them. Extremely challenging !
You should have add the inachieve and wonderful 3rd, in E Minor! But anyway, it still nice!
Also the double concerto in D , Two concertos for two pianos, and a piano concerto in A minor.
