From what I understand some people own F4s and F104 Starfighters as well as one who owns an F14. Although if you google 'private f18' it comes up with a few articles of an auction the US Navy Blue Angels held selling one of their Blue Angel's planes for private use in airworthy conditions, I don't know too much else though on if it was ever bought and what not. Also yes, the laws seem a lot more lenient with owning Russian fighters, although even then, the Russian fighters are generally old era.
Driving 5 hours to see Wings Over South Texas in the morning. My old home where NAS Kingsville has Winged many Blue Angel pilots. Never miss a show, and I cannot imagine how many Blue Angel pilots I must have seen training over my house to get their Wings, and eventually become a Blue Angel pilot. I wonder what happened to me? hehe
@oke139 I'm not sure but I think what the documentary said was that there was vapors from either the hydraulics or some fuel vapors so he couldn't see his wing or lack of one.
I've watched my fair share of youtube videos, and got to say this one really grabbed my attention; awesome display of flying skills. thanks for sharing..
Hey i know its an old comment, but i dont believe any modern fighters will be allowed in private ownership other then static display. Recently, some f14's were seized because they still have tech that is considered sensitive. The f18 would be moreso. Basically, modern fighters are considered too complex & too secret to be operated privately. However, russian jets dont hold US tech, so there is a private mig 29 owner! bad ass. Who you would get to maintain it i have no idea.
@iamgreatish You know what though, the Red Arrows fly modified performing planes...The Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds fly "stock" military jets. I am not sure what the Snow Birds fly.
@patemansmith1 i have no idea how old you are but kick ass in school and keep your dream in mind and head off to the academy or pursue an NROTC scholarship which is exactly what im doing right now. Serving your country is an honorable and noble thing to do. I hope you achieve something incredible.
@MrFlightSimVidz How could he not know that he only had 1 wing :D? Didnt he felt that aircraft was behaving weird and he didnt notice one wing was gone and didnt see explosion? Pilots have eyes behind theyr backs, so iv heard.
@J18C22B Well, we all have our opinions. Either way! All of them are pretty awesome for managing to do that in a close knit formation, without colliding or travelling at high speeds less that 100 200 feet off the ground.
@umpalumpa101909 well the red arrows are more of an aerobatic fly team than the blue angels. Personally I perfer the fast F-18 over the hawk. There is nothing like that that thunderous roar of a 700 mile flyby. I could watch a single F-18 fly all day than just one hawk.
Yeah your allowed to buy F18s for private ownership along with a large majority of fighter jets, they just take out the weapons systems before they give it to you and you got your own private fighter jet to take for a spin when ever you want
They are good, but, the Smoke Squadron from Brazilian Air Force are the best. Watch some videos here and you wiil see. Sorry.... Brazil...Smoke Now! Hugs.
That was the coolest thing I've ever seen! You're one lucky guy to have gotten the chance to ride with them. Thanks for sharing!

Hard to say what was wilder, the fantastic formation flying or the insanely gleeful cackling :D
this was filmed at the USNA in 2007 LCDR Tom "Duck" Winkler was the F/A-18 driver

WOW. What an amazing video!
The engine and air is more silent then I thought, as you can hear his voice over the ambient sound in the camera microphone.
Nice birds, awesome flying. Respect.

It's amazing how they're really close to eachother and don't crash. :)
@oke139 I'm not sure but I think what the documentary said was that there was vapors from either the hydraulics or some fuel vapors so he couldn't see his wing or lack of one.
Totally beyond cool. If my flying ever gets me a seat in one of these there would
be nothing left to live for.
I am speechless....

Great syncro!
Whatts the screen infront of the jets with like a rectle thingy called?

HUD (head up display, displays the aircraft's airspeed, altitude, heading, and attitude)
Where was this filmed? I mean, aside from inside a cockpit of course. Florida? California?
@jaeshim1 It's part of their show when they do the dirty roll, and the inverted to verted pass.
@patemansmith1 i have no idea how old you are but kick ass in school and keep your dream in mind and head off to the academy or pursue an NROTC scholarship which is exactly what im doing right now. Serving your country is an honorable and noble thing to do. I hope you achieve something incredible.

I wonder if the guy in the back did any hurling as well as laughing?
impressive
Thats awesome!
So close!
I wonder if you can actually train become a pilot, and buy one of these. That would be awesome!
WOW!!!!
My favorite plane ever, the F/A-!8-D...if only i could fly one
That is insane! Wonder how much it costs?
@williamaugust I disagree :/ I believe the British Red Arrows are - Yes, i'm British but im not biased.

Are they flying F/A 18 Super hornets? Or just F/A 18 Hornets?
"you know what, doing a flip in perfect formation is too easy, hmmm, lets do it with our arresting hook, flaps, and landing gear's down."
DAT SPEED
3:55 "My breath's blue."
How good pilots you must be to do this
for me thats the best job in the world
@F18driver08 no they dont
@JoeEndo Try less than three feet....
Afterburnin' HOT!
If only they were F-14s.. lol.
The variant the Blues use is F/A-18a. The E and F models are larger, and F has two seats.
R.I.P. Headphone users...
G-POWER°°
what u got ther is a damn texan in the back seat! lol.... awesome vid. blue angles are fantastic! :)
@Voldness You just rejuvenated my dreams:) I'll look into it.
Blue Angels are the baddest fucn squadron around.
They fly roughly an arm length away from eachother
Yeah your allowed to buy F18s for private ownership along with a large majority of fighter jets, they just take out the weapons systems before they give it to you and you got your own private fighter jet to take for a spin when ever you want
@waterattack I would, but i'm too old:( 29 i am.
less than twenty feet, but yeah.. don't think I'd wanna distract my pilot like that either.
i want to fly a blue angel when i get older
holy fuck ,they have really big balls !
pilot is pilot
They are good, but, the Smoke Squadron from Brazilian Air Force are the best. Watch some videos here and you wiil see.
