It feels like every person that tries to defend themselves seems to go to jail anyway. That being said, I've stopped worrying about what is legal and what isn't. If I'm going to go to jail/prison anyway, then why worry about what is "reasonable" or not? I also notice that most of the greatest martial arts instructors come from the most notorious places for locking up innocent people who are simply defending themselves (Illinois, Colorado, California, Oregon, New York, Washington).
