If you have the ability to get a back up generator this one is the way to go. The ability to hook up to a back up generator and not worry about it damaging your system components plus it's quieter. Definitely a plus. Looking forward to Friday.👍☺

is there any type of genorator that can stay hooked up to a large complete system and it automatically turns on in case of power outage...so its a very hands off emergency measure.

I would say you if you've decided to invest in a generator you might as well go for one that is even more powerful. I use a 7500 watt generator that not only powers several different reef tanks, but my fridge, freezer, tv, water pump ect. as well. Again more upfront cost as far as a transfer switch or generator panel but it is nice to just plug the generator in and flip the breaker and have most of my stuff automatically switch over. The stuff that is on the other panel still has to be powered my extension cords.

I'm just asking a question why don't you have one of those house generator hooked up to your house so when the power goes out it kicks in it only costs a bit more and with all that money sitting down there why not just saying I have one and i love it i don't have to do anything as when the power goes out it kicks in so no loss and stability is key for me thanks reefer friend

Frankly power outages and poor weather conditions freak me out in regards to upgrading the reef tank.

My setup: good quality pure sine inverter (2000W continous), a car and and a long extension.

It is better to get a generator with an inverter but not needed. It is best to plug in your Apex into a backup battery with built in voltage regulator, you run your Apex on a generator less than 5% of the time what are you doing the other 95% of the time to protect voltage fluctuations on the power grid.

I see why people with a ton invested in their tank need a generator power outages don't do anything to my freshwater tank if under 3 days and not during the winter but my saltwater heck I have lost a few corals due to power outages and salinity swings during them when not home. Fish are hardy however. I see how people who have a lot need a generator.

Insurance can't recover time invested. Some people may have 5+ years invested in a pair of fish they're attempting to breed. These fish can be rare and sometimes irreplaceable.
