omg!!! hahaha I've never noticed that it was the 3rd song. But now in Power to Play it's in the 2nd song! Land of the Bees ("cause we got the power to play...")
She Falls Asleep turned out to be the pov of a relationship that ended up with the girl committing suicide. Down Goes Another One (on Radio:Active) is the guy's perspective. It's also easily one of their best songs.
Awesome reaction as always! Don't forget the lost songs album! (It's an album of original songs between the fifth and the sixth one, technically the real sixth album) There's also the McBusted album, but not sure if you want to include that one
Certified platinum sold over 300,000 copies in the UK, peaked at number 1 in the Uk albums charts. McFly broke the record for the youngest band to top the album charts twice. Not as successful as Room on the Third floor in the UK, but worldwide it matched sales, selling over a million copies. All about you is the hit song of this album and to date one of McFly’s most popular songs ever.
i'm so happy you liked it, wonderland is my favorite album and it means a lot to me, i sense you're gonna love radio:active even more tho, can't wait for the next videos 🖤🖤🖤
what a treat! i'm glad you loved it, you are so right it's s pop punk even punk rock, which is very appropriate for the era but still was a huge risk for them. the album did really well though, i think i'll be okay was the first single and it got to number one in UK so all in all not a bad effort. loving the mcfly journey! oh you shoudl check out silence is a scary sound it was sort of a bonus track for the tour they did after this album, its off the wonderland dvd on YT
This studio version of "Dont Know Why" really isn't It.... But you have to listen to the live version, it turned into one of my favorites on the album! A completely new and better song!
some songs from this album were in the movie just my luck from 2006 (with lindsay lohan and chris pine), McFly is in the movie as well playing themselves, it's pretty fun
@steven you should look up She Falls Asleep live! On the Wonderland tour they toured with a full orchestra (which is how Harry met his wife, Issy, who played violin on the tour!)
Lovee your Mcfly reactions. I discovered them while at the movies watching Just My Luck, and immediately fell in love with them! This past novemeber, I decided to get on a plane and fly to England to finally see them live. It was everything and more! I have been obsessively listening to their discography daily since. It makes no sense to me that there are people out there who don’t even know who Mcfly is. I agree with the others saying you need to listen to Don’t Know Why live, it is amazing! Also agree with the person that said you need to listen to the Anthology tour live album, it has some of their best vocals. Everything about it is perfection.
fun fact: the tracks I've got you and Just my luck are in the movie "Just My Luck", with Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine. The band is in the movie too, its so much fun hahaha! Thank you for all your reactions on mcfly, it's my favorite band and its always soooo good to see people really enjoying their music. they deserve it a lot! Lots of love from Brazil! xx
Love this album reaction so much!! Keep it up ❤ All about you was originally a valentines gift Tom recorded for his now wife Giovanna last minute. Which is absolutely insane It was never supposed to be a McFly song till later on!
Mcfly live is the best you’ll ever see them! seen them 5 times live and Mcbusted once and will do it over and over again!! Do star girl live!! Best one :)
wait wdym there's only three left? there's 1) motion in the oceon, 2) radio: active, 3) above the noise, 4) the lost songs and 5) young dumb thrills!!! (you could argue that the last songs shouldn't count because is not quite finished, but there's so many gems there that it would be a pity if you didn't go through it too!)
I’m so glad you picked up on the different vibe straight away. They were going for a darker sound and a lot of it came from them wanting to sound more grown up and deep. Amazing songs but then they realized that wasn’t exactly their sound and they go back to a more lively sound in their third album. Wonderland is incredible though 🙌🏻💕
my top 3 from this album are probably - too close for comfort - I wanna hold you - ultraviolet my top 3 from rottf are - met this girl - broccoli - not alone my top 3 from ptp are: - make it out alive - honey I'm home - taking back tonight (doing all of the ones you already reacted because I don't think you've asked that before lmao)
The Ballad of Paul K speech was all I needed. Thank you :) And yeah, my three favourites from the album (yes, I watched the whole video!) vary from time to time, but right now, they are as follows: 1. Nothing (Used to blast this at full volume in the morning to get the day going. I will do that again soon! It's just a jam that makes you feel good inside) 2. The Ballad of Paul K (Just every word you said. We are all so close to that all the time. I am Paul right now, but I also know that time will be on my side and help me) 3. She Falls Asleep (Just a masterpiece and a small piece of Tom Fletcher's talent put into a song. Hits me in the feels every time) It's so fun to watch your journey into McFly. They have been a huge part of my life for 15 years now. They inspired me to pursue music and eventually becoming a musicologist in University (probably not a title, but a BA degree at least). They opened my ears to great melodies and making whatever THEY want. That's something that this album probably is the best example of, like you said. Commercial success or not, it's all about what kinds of musical colorbombs YOU want to create. I think I'll have to go to Patreon to watch the whole shabang. And I'm looking forward to the next album, Motion in the Ocean, which has a lot of my favourite McFly songs. Have a good one!
Also as you say it was super brave of them to put something quite different out, but also imagine how brave everyone behind the scenes was (at the record company etc) and how much faith they had in McFly’s vision to let this album be what it is - not super commercial as you say… like She Falls Asleep is such a risk, are you kidding?! It’s amazing. It’s also interesting to compare this faith to a lack of in some of the following years, when they were persuaded into a pretty massive departure from what makes them magic. You’ll probably recognise which album this is when you get to it!
In their biography Tom talked about the tone of Wonderland partially being due to the fact he was struggling with depression quite badly at the time due to undiagnosed bipolar disorder. Since they were teenagers none of them really understood depression so Tom's mood lead to a lot of arguments between him and the rest of the band as they all thought he was 'just being a bit of a dick'. Additionally having become known as the 'fat one' in the band he stopped wating only having a coffee and muffin from Starbucks every day. On top of that Danny aaid it was a reaction to how the media portrayed them - they disliked being seen as bubblegum pop and a boyband so wanted to prove they were seriois musicians. He actually hates the photo on the cover now, saying its ridiculous how miserable they all looked when in many ways they were essentially living the dream.
2:47 I'll Be Ok 6:22 I've Got You 12:14 Ultraviolet 15:55 The Ballad Of Paul K 21:33 I Wanna Hold You 27:18 Too Close For Comfort 33:07 All About You 33:58 She Falls Asleep part1 34:27 She Falls Asleep part2 36:51 Don't Know Why 39:38 Nothing 42:10 Memory Lane
I always love watching you react to McFly, I knew you were going to love their albums haha ❤ They’re my teenage band I was 13 when I discovered them and watching them grow and grow with them has been amazing
They did a studio version of Too Close For Comfort that you should definitely watch. It is a more raw version of the song and gives it a slightly different feeling.
I never even heard of Descendents so imagine my shock when you played that song 'Hope' to prove your point about McFly's sound being similar to theirs and I literally heard Danny's voice in the lead vocalist lol they DO sound the same! I will definitely check out more of Descendents' work. Thank you for the recommendation 🎉
*and I heard Danny's literal voice? Idk, English is not my first language 😅 I'm loving these McFly's reactions, by the way. You have no idea how long I've waited for them. Keep 'em coming!!
Green day were a massive inspiration for Tom actually so its very apt you bring them up. Also theres ab amazing photo from the Brits in like 2004 or 2005 of McFly and Green Day backstage drinking chanpagne together. Apparently Green Day walked into the green room and were like 'Oh hey McFly' and Tom was freakobg out internally because they knew whow they were (i mean they had won an award that night, i doubt they knew them before then)
Probably my favourite McFly album, just topping RadioActive which has a couple of duds amongst the epicness (looking at you Smile) - not one bad song. Agree with what others have said about Don't Know Why...better live
This album was a reaction to them feeling that their first album (precisely the marketing of) was too young and colourful, and interestingly the next album is a reaction to them thinking that this was too emo 😅 they have always been about growth as a band and especially at this point in their career, they were really only in competition with themselves in this lane in the UK. Loved the reaction!
Need to hear Don't Know Why live. Its a very personal song for Danny and yeah the studio version doesn't give it justice and the chorus isnt strong at all 😅 but its a very personal song and great live
Mcfly doesn't ever travel the states! they have come here to record, nd they did 2 shows in California and 2 shows in New York, years ago, but I don't think they will ever tour the states, and honestly, the states have such influence on the music industry that not touring here has probably been why they are still a band. the states are fickle when it comes to music and touring here can be a career killer
this is my al time favorite band and I only got into them 8 years ago so i missed their high point (plus i live in canada so they never come here let alone america). but i always wondered, what makes them pop punk vs pop rock. i find them a little "cleaner" for lack of a better word compared to busted, or even blink 182 who i see more as pop punk. I also think simple plan -early SP is more punk/emo and later are just Rock. I don't know what i am talkinga bout so i'm intereested to know what makes something punk vs just rock?
I love McFly i really do but they are a bit lazy when it comes to touring. They only stick to UK and Brazil. I'm lucky i'm from the UK but it would be amazing to see them visit other places where they have fans. They are massive in Japan but haven't been back for about 10 years if not longer, same with US.
I have to agree on that. I’m from the Netherlands, last time I’ve seen them here was 2011.. hopefully they’ll decide to do some more shows on the European mainland!
I saw them at soundcheck last year and someone asked them to go back to America and tour, they said they would love to but there was issues with them being allowed to tour there or something.
I think it's related to where they think they'll get big enough crowds. Touring is expensive (many artists lose money or only break when on tours and a lot of the money comes from merch sales). Their audience outside of the UK isn't that big, I can imagine they don't want to risk it/their management/the record company doesn't want to risk it
They have no record deal so have to organise their own tours, it’s not laziness, they have no backing or industry support. I’m sure they would love to do massive international stadium tours.
omg im so happy with all these McFly reactions!! can’t wait for radio active
A little fun nugget - In the first 3 albums they sing the title of the album in the 3rd song.
omg!!! hahaha I've never noticed that it was the 3rd song. But now in Power to Play it's in the 2nd song! Land of the Bees ("cause we got the power to play...")
Don't know why, written by Danny and his sister about his dad who cheated on his mom, left, and then turned up asking for money when Danny got famous.
That song always got me
She Falls Asleep turned out to be the pov of a relationship that ended up with the girl committing suicide. Down Goes Another One (on Radio:Active) is the guy's perspective. It's also easily one of their best songs.
Awesome reaction as always!
Don't forget the lost songs album! (It's an album of original songs between the fifth and the sixth one, technically the real sixth album)

This album did well, was no1 in the uk and had no1 singles too.
They just announced they are playing a festival and Green Day are also on the billing!
said it before and I'll say it again your Mcfly reviews and reviews in general are such a joy to watch... can't wait for motion in the ocean next!
This studio version of "Dont Know Why" really isn't It.... But you have to listen to the live version, it turned into one of my favorites on the album! A completely new and better song!

This is so great! I hope you do the B-Sides & Rarities as well as the The Lost Songs album as well🙏

Amazing songs but then they realized that wasn’t exactly their sound and they go back to a more lively sound in their third album.

my top 3 from ptp are:
- make it out alive
- honey I'm home
- taking back tonight
(doing all of the ones you already reacted because I don't think you've asked that before lmao)
Fun fact, this is the first album where it's actually Harry and Dougie on drums and bass. It was session musicians on the first album.
The Ballad of Paul K speech was all I needed. Thank you :)
And yeah, my three favourites from the album (yes, I watched the whole video!) vary from time to time, but right now, they are as follows:

Agree with what others have said about Don't Know Why...better live
Anthology albums after this pls bc these albums are just amplified x100 live. especially ATN
i went to the uk tour for this album. it was amazing!
oh also, cause i forgot to mention, Dougie said years ago that Descendents "I'm The One" has his favorite bass line :) so you were spot on
Please do reactions for Motion in the Ocean and Radio:ACTIVE!!! They're my favorite albums by McFly. Thank you for doing these videos!!

Great reaction! Also I would love you to react to Piranha on the UK Masked Singer and see what you think 👀😊
Need to hear Don't Know Why live. Its a very personal song for Danny and yeah the studio version doesn't give it justice and the chorus isnt strong at all 😅 but its a very personal song and great live
Not sure if you have been told but you need to listen to Danny on the masked singer uk. Especially his version of its All coming back to me now
You have to listen to Don't Know Why live. It's a top 10 for sure.
Don't know Why sounds much better live!
Totally agree!!

Love your Type O Negative shirt!!!
fun fact they were the youngest ever band to get a number 1 album a title taken from the beatles
Ready

@@lisannek2816 I really hope they do. Would be nice to see fans in other countries get to see/meet them and for them to see different places.
