Coch probably doesn’t remember this but he gave me my first battle-belt back when I was the 3rd phase corpsman, he took pity on me when he saw me at the range shooting with no holster. it had a Sig p226 Safariland holster and I think it was Blackhawk, it was salty so it gave it character, I still have it 😇
I know Im randomly asking but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I love any help you can offer me
This guy is the most accurate depiction of a retired SEAL. Its also great to learn from someone who doesnt have hardcore Captain America vibes. Kudos 🙌.
Mark is to me, what a Tier one operator should be. Such a humble, simple and nice guy, it's a breath of fresh air especially nowadays with so many other tier 1 operators coming out tooting their own horn. God Bless you Mark!
When you put me through 3rd phase, I thought the sights on my Sig might have been off. You took my pistol and keyholed two rounds on a black dot, handed it back to me and said, “they look good to me.”
First and foremost thanks for your service. One of my boys just retired off the teams a few months ago. I enjoy watching the evolution you bring to your videos from us "old heads" to the new bread of gear.
I really enjoy watching Old Dogs bring out their gear and show the evolution of what they used to carry to what they now carry or their last deployment carry. Did you guys ever have an op where you ran out of ammo? 2-3 pistol mags and 3-4 SMG/M4 mags seems "light". Obviously loadout reflects level of credible intel on potential number of hostiles, and Black Hawk Down situations are rare.
WOW you NAVY BOYS HAVE GREAT STUFF! I HAD OLD Vietnam stuff when my dad was in the Marines. I in listed in 1987-1991. I was Marine Force Recon sniper. We used Allis Web belts that read 1967 or 1968 or 1970 Lol. Web belt with a plastic buckle. 2 M - 1968 plastic canteens, 2 M-14 nylon pouches. M12 nylon holster and M12 mag pouch from 1972. I had a rook sack and butt pack then suspenders with shoulder harnesses. My K-Bar and compass on the shoulder pads. 30 years later you guys have sweet stuff seal! Semper FI Navy!
Man you must have a mini museum at home! As a marine i bought a lot of stuff myself, how was that in your days? So cool to see the evolution and some of the same ways of thinking in your gear setup. love these vids Mark!
Excelente video!
Being from the 70's and seeing the evolution of gear is awesome. It's not just the weapons but the support gear. We as a society need to pony up for research and development in this area, save our team members lives. We need to remember when this was done with no armor, jury rigged most everything. We've lost to many.
Bought and AR QBC wylde camber main problem is looking for a place to train within 50 miles. Plenty of ammunition. Red & green dot put 20 round through it. Served in the navy 1987-1993 retired in NAB Coronado . I had planned on going across the street as a striker . Retired early. Looking at the foundation page I blessed. Thank You for all you do and have done !
Very cool to see the evolution of gear over the years and how things have changed for better efficiency. Seems like everyone is going more minimal, lightweight, and more modular. And it seems like everyone is moving to Velcro over the molle setup for fast and easy pouch removal. Just set up my own belt and I’m sort of like your “gen 3” setup here with the padded belt, it was cheap, it works, and has held up great so far. Nice to hear from the experts with real world experience! I’ve noticed I prefer more weight on my hips than my shoulders so I am loading up my belt and keeping everything else minimal. Helps if you have back problems. Your hips can take a lot of weight very easily which is why hiking and backpacking backpacks have a very burly hip belt.
Blue alpha gear 2 pc belts hard to beat, can be configured for range work, competition and battle using just one set up. Check them out along with blue alpha gear, high speed gear, g code, or esstac pouches. Love my set up configures for any mission with no or very minor changes.
This is experience speaking ! So enjoyable to watch this video. Almost feels like you’re in the locker with him and you just asked him to show you his kit to set yours up. I wish I could like more than once !
Good to know a lot of the "Home Depot work arounds" I have used and seen used in the 3rd world are functional in the worst environments. People talk a lot of trash about DIY, but if you do your research and test your kit, DIY can lead to a better understanding of what you're running and cheap functional gear. The best gear costs a fortune that most dont have. That's no excuse to not have gear at all. It won't have the Crye logo though. I know, bummer.
Great to see the progression. Safelife Defense has a great belt. 2 inch w/ molle with the inner/outer style belt like others. Reasonably priced with great quality to support all your gear. I run the same esstac pouches with my IFAK thus far. Cheers.
Big fan of the gear explanations/tutorials/history! So far I've just seen this and the walkthrough of plate carriers, but all the info helps. Thank you for the education!
I love the Kore battle belt. Played with the blue alpha belt and hated it. I hate the cobra style buckles because you can't adjust them on the go. The Kore has a ratchet system that's rated for 20 lbs. I'm never going to be clipped into a chopper so good enough for me. Micro battle belt like that last one he showed. I've put a lot of time on that thing now and I haven't had any issues. The new stuff is good. One of the best instructors I've ever had runs a padded belt though and I don't see him ever changing. Old eod guy so he's earned the right to run whatever he wants. One other thought: as you are placing mags, I'm finding it handy to have at least one pistol and one rifle mag on the side of your dominant hand so if you have to go weak side or one handed you always have a mag.
Cool stuff Mark. Now I don't have to ask you what you took to war. But I still have more questions. Your Cousin. oh yeah, thanks for the tour when we visted.
It's interesting to see you move towards hooknloop instead of from it. Padded belts became a thing here back in 08 (Swedish company Snigel Design brought out theirs then) after velcro belts had a couple of years success following leather. With any amount of weight beyond radio, cuffs and some misc, I'd go padded. But that's me, in my line of work.
Been loving your videos, I watch and rewatch them as I refine my equipment and technique. Can you make a video about the different rifle zeros and their effectiveness? Currently have a 100 yard zero on my rifle.

I set mine up just like Adam West did his in 1966. Complete with a live herring as a treat for friendly seals.
lol, this comment is very underrated
Love the low-key explanations! Makes it very easy for a civilian to understand the thought processes and mindset going into a personal setup

I love seeing all the old homemade rigs. That must have been so hard to work with all that canvas and metal alice clips
Love how you noted that people always give shit about having knives on the back and your response is a middle finger basically lmao pure gold
In case I needed to throw a bomb at somebody- Coch” the best thing I’ve ever heard hahaha this guys humour is the best!

I wish I had a family member like coch who can tell me all of these really cool stories of his days on the team.
"Mileage may vary", ain't gonna lie, gonna use that in my next class.
Always nice to see the evolution of gear. But more important I think is why change occured.
I love watching Coch's videos. Keep em coming Coch.
Humble, Professional and Informative. They don't make frogmen like they used to.
Love the historical kit evolution.
Love hearing this first hand experience
U are the most. Humble sof operator on the internet and I know hundreds ranging from rangers, seals, green beret, recon , pj
Thank you for your service! I always love seeing how others equip their belts.
I used the glock knife in 2012 in Kandahar, that's one of my favorite blades for sure. It can definitley handle a beating.

Thanks for your service brother! Great info!
Liked it one minute into the video when you were showing your old ship boarding rig. Good stuff.
I like your idea and location for dump pouch. You never see that on other people's belt setups.

Make sure you check the sizing... I normally wear an XL belt and my Safelife size belt is medium. 😂
Amazing the way gear evolves. I got the last belt you showed, and so far it is really comfortable.
Love to learn from you Coch. Thank-you for sharing.
Great info on progression of belts. I need to upgrade to a 2 piece belt. Thanks for the info.

Can you make a video about the different rifle zeros and their effectiveness? Currently have a 100 yard zero on my rifle.
Thanks! We'll note it down!
36 yd zero for your carbine brotha good for 0-300 yards at a 6” group
If it's .223/5.56 a zero at 50 yards will also zero at 220 yards
Sounds like « coch » is always cool and pragmatic 🤙🤘
