I burn out the five horsepower motor about every 10-14 months. My next planned upgrade is either a 7.5hp or 10hp. I'm leaning toward the 10hp and putting a larger pulley to increase the rotation speed of the pump to increase the cfm

I'd be curious to see what happens to the pump with a faster rpm. I know 3045 I think is the rpm they're designed for. I wonder how it will wear at a faster rpm

That motor is actually 5 peak HP. A true 5 HP motor runs at about 21 amps. Your label says 15-17 amps which is more like 3 running HP. That’s one reason you can get by with the smaller wire. Don’t feel bad; I learned this the hard way. Turns out this is a pretty common issue with HP ratings and it’s good enough as long as it does the job you need it to do.

Good to know. I would not have known. It runs just fine on my compressor, so I'm happy.

The way you've got the that trans cooler hooked up there is no place for the water generated from the compressor to go but flood the cooler and then forced into your tank defeating the purpose of the cooler. Turn the cooler 1/4 turn clockwise then run the bottom line into the water separator and from there into your tank. Also tilt the trans cooler at a 45 degree angle so the water in the cooler will drain from gravity into the separator.

Yup. I have the parts to change it to exactly what you're saying. Just need to do it.

Great idea, I just want to add that it is better to have a water seperator just after the radiator to prevent water frol entering the tank so you will have an almost dry tank

I had not thought of that. I will add that to it someday!

@dailyolds1970 you already have a water separator, you just need to re-arrange the sequence of airflow.
