Each of those busses get some compression and those are routed to a main drum buss with light compression. Then you can send that to a parellel drum crush buss.
I'm curious to know, are you able to solo a channel in the DAW to hear how it sounds without affecting the main mix going out to you live stream lol? I've always wanted to know how to do that.
No, this is not possible with Logic, at least with the dedicated solo button. You would have to use a dedicated bus send as some sort of "solo bus" on each track.
in this case the acoustic is not so important in the mix, however if it is a key element in your mix and sounds like this DI'd acoustic, i highly recommend buying a worship tutorials acoustic IR pack for $15 and loading it into logic's stock reverb. there are some useable freebies out there as well.
Yo, you gotta do a in depth walkthrough for Worship Leader School. I know I personally like logic over Ableton….. I have been waiting for this video!! Finally, Logic Pro X
Thank you for the video! This video is super useful for our church to mix live worship! One little question, you added a gain for bass as it does not have enought signal gain in Logic Pro, what level of gain you usually set for instrument and vocals when they enter Logic Pro? How much db is "enough" for logic pro to process the sound? Hope you will answer my quesiton :)
How does everyone deal with solo in LogicX? If you solo a channel, it will also solo it on the broadcast. Is there a setting in Logic that changes the way solo works?
Great video! You can use an eq to define your toms, and use a gate/expander to lower the spills and then trigger. You can even use the mix know (Trigger2 ) to blend the wet and dry signal. Otherwise you hear for ex tom triggering every snare hit
I’m considering using Trigger 2 free to replace our kick and snare only. I’m totally happy with our toms. How does Trigger 2 account for cross stick, or does it not? I don’t want it triggering the snare when it’s a soft section of a slow song, lol.
You like the CLA-2A for parallel drum compression more than the CLA-76? I've always used the 76 but I'm down to try stuff. Also, just started using Logic for our online mix too. Probably biggest difference for us is that I'm using it post fader off our LV1 so that I don't need an extra person or space to mix broadcast. I just tweak our template just enough that it sounds a little more produced for online and then how it's mixed in house translates to online.
Thanks Great video! How could I get a studio vocal to sound like it's coming from a live PA more? I've tried different reverbs and IRs, but looking for a natural PA / speaker emulation, a reverb that sounds similar or mauybe a mic emulation that could give the vocal and a few other instruments that live Hillsong or Bethel sound, some. Maybe re-amping and mixing in the sound? I havent tried that.
Thank you for posting these videos, that help your brothers and sisters, learn how to put more of the precious time HE has given us to worship HIM. One question, Im (new) running Logic Pro, to the M32 with OBS. I can record just fine, but when I plug earphones into my Macbook, It stops recording the audio, when I pull the out it records, I must have missed a step ?
Great video Jake! I am in the process of upgrading my church with a M32 and Waves card and we will send audio to Logic for livestream over the WSG network. Part of this process is I want to move the daw to a separate room for mixing. How would you recommend sending our stereo bus mix back to our switcher at front of house? You mention you intend to do something different in this video. Thanks! Chris
Yeah the challenge will be figuring out how to monitor the mic at the Logic computer. That’s why we ended up putting a behringer flow at that computer to pull usb audio out of logic and then we send the main out of the flow to the stage box
Hey man! Good work!! 🙌🏽 so i was wondering you guys have any latency from audio into your video recording.. logic is giving us a progressively worse n worse latency. We’ll start on time, and as service goes on, it’ll be up to 2-3 seconds.
Someone has to monitor the latency, especially if you're recording, the more you record the more labor intensive in terms of ram. Download a ram cleaner and clean up the ram every 5 or so minutes and constantly check the latency in the "audio" settings. Set the buffer to either 128 or 256, 64 is the absolute lowest you'd go, the lower you go the less latency yes, however it's more ram intensive and when the ram gets clogged your latency will jump up anyway. So select whatever buffet size will keep your latency from 5-7ms but never lower than 64
Are you using Trigger live in the room or only for broadcast? I'm assuming you are using the plug ins live and broadcasting live...or do you do a lot of post work and broadcast later?
We aren't using the Slate triggers in the room, but we are using a whole bunch of waves plugins on each drum channel at FOH on soundgrid. I don't believe Slate is currently able to run off of the SuperRack interface/server for FOH- only waves plugins work within SuperRack, as far as I'm aware. Our audio is straight from the preamps going to FOH and separately to our Broadcast, so we have totally different plugin chains for each channel and each destination.
I think the only thing missing IMHO is having the ability to control reverb on command. It seems to be excessive in some areas or out of place. Thanks for the awesome in depth!
tank you for dis, my only concern would be wat effect and ow eavy is d trigger 2 on your cpu, because of latency. I personally do not av d trigger2 but i av anoda plugin and it is cpu intensive.
You should use another reverb for vocals. I mean, a reverb that allows you to do a side chain to the vocals, to get better clarity… but it’s a pretty good job anyways, and you can use a bus to send the snare and then apply the Trigger 2
hi guys, we use a Yamaha M7CL desk for broad cast and trying to work out how to connect my macbook pro to the yamaha desk to use for mixing. does anyone have any advice. i know its a connection via cat5
I wanted to know how are you compensating for audio latency on the broadcast since the limiter and waves tune will introduce audio latency ? Also, what buffer size are you running on the template ?
Waves Tune Real-Time does not introduce latency. Additionally, Logic automatically compensates for latency of busses. If latency is introduced on input tracks, one needs to compensate on all tracks, as far as I know. At least that's how we do it, and we inherited that from the bethel template for Logic.
Do you know how to insert channels from my Yamaha TF3 Mixer to Logic Pro? I've gotten some channels working via the I/O Plugin. But My acoustic and keys just don't want to pick up on Logic. I think it might be something with the Mixer. But I don't know yet... Any Help?? :)
@@bluedog8050 close! Our stage box is actually our "ears board" (x32 rack+the midas DL32 stagebox) and then from there the raw audio is all sent to separate places via Ethernet on the waves network. That way we can process our in ears completely separate from everywhere else, only downside being that the "true gain" is now controlled by our x32 rack and not the FOH board. It's been a more budget friendly way of achieving the multiple goals we were shooting for when we moved in to the building. Jake has definitely helped us take all of it to the next level and I'm sure we are gonna be changing some of it up here soon! But for now that's how we have been doing it.
I use the MCU Pro. really great and it gives you plugin control and is made for Logic unlike alot of others native to Ableton. I think Behringer might make a version as well.
We are currently using Logic for our broadcast mix, but I want to move away from it, as it has some annoying limitations and behaviors when it comes to broadcast mixing. I‘m thinking about moving to Reaper or Studio One.
@@robertsimpson5801 It's mostly a problem with the learning curve for volunteers. Logic has a very rigid UI which is far away from a mixing console. Reaper and Studio One have the ability to get closer to a digital mixer. Reaper has the ability to create custom themes/skins extensions, and plug-ins (I'm a software engineer), but that would take quite some time to set up, which I currently do not have. Studio One can show small widgets in the channel strip for gain/EQ/compressor/... and also offers a solo bus, which makes it possible to solo tracks during broadcast (this can be done using busses in the other DAWs, but is not intuitive - I think Ableton can do this as well). Both DAWs also have their downsides, which makes me stick with Logic for now. Reaper does not really offer an "input monitoring" feature, one needs to record arm the tracks. This means Reaper would always record all tracks, which is not what I want (it is possible to disable recording for an armed track, but that is hidden away and is just plain stupid IMHO). Studio One's UI is somewhat complicated in certain cases and we would have to buy the largest licence for all the features we want, and I do not want to spend that much on another DAW. Logic also sometimes has "hick-ups" on my system, where it will stop its audio engine because "a plug-in has reported a stability problem" and asks whether it should quit or continue, instead of just continuing... However this has only been a problem on my personal system when using more third-party plug-ins than usual. Our broadcast Mac Mini has been stable enough so far, using mainly stock plug-ins, Antares AutoTune, and some Waves stuff.
My question is: If you don’t have a volunteer for this, can you still run it? Or do you need a person to mute/unmute channels as they are used? And is there a way to do this without clicking with mouse?
You could also set it up so each channel goes into the daw for processing, then back out to the desk channels for fader control. All the bussing would likely need to remain in the desk, however. Alternatively, some desks also work as a DAW controller, so there may be a way to assign the desk faders to control DAW faders, rather than the actual desk inputs.
What do you guys use to delay video considering the delay generated from the processing you have on plugins from Logic atleast to sync video and audio?
typically video will naturally be delayed more than the audio. at least in my experience, i have never had to delay video to match the audio, however i have had to delay the audio to match video. which can be done with a plugin, set at the root of each channel strip (better to do this at the begginning of each channel strip, rather than once at the end of the channel strip if you are mixing broadcast so that: a) the audio will sync up with what you are seeing on screen in the media room, which actually does help give context to the mix. b) most importantly, putting the delay at the begginning of each channel strip allows you to hear the changes made to your mix in real time.(if you put one single delay on the master output, you wouldn't hear the changes in your mix until after they were processed by the delay).
Whenever I use Logic to mix the livestream it starts to have a delay after a few minutes, how do I fix that? All the plugins have been checked for lag time, and I'm using a MBP 16" 2.5GHz 32GB, what should I look for?
We were using a fully loaded 2013 MBP and we started getting that delay after a few minutes of streaming…we pitched a base model M1 MBP and we haven’t had an issue since…
Ya i used to have that issue. Not really sure how i fixed it. I upgraded to an M1 and it works fine with my Dante latency all the way down. One thing to check is to make sure your prodject sample rate is set correctly. If you are using an interface, match its sample rate or dantes or whatever
As a drummer and a sound guy, I have mixed feelings about drum replacement (sample triggers). I feel like most of the time the sound you wanted could have been achieved with EQ and compression.
I have to agree. When I mix recordings of our band the only time I replace a shell is if there is something really off. Even then I try to just augment the shell with a replacement. Controlling the microdynamics on drums is critical to get the impact and energy of the kit. Without it, yeah they sound like they need replaced.
We use Reason because it's what the last guy used who set-up the system. I'm not a fan simply because no one has had a chance to "learn" it. We basically mix it make it sound ... not gross.
We do! Just need to add a delay plug-in to each channel. Figure out which one causes the most delay. Leave that delay plug-in set to 0. Then with a good bit of math you can calculate how much delay each other channel needs to line up with the most latent channel. We did this and overall have about 20-30ms overall delay. We adjust the video in OBS, to be delayed to match the audio. Logic does have automatics delay compensation but only works during playback mode not input monitoring while recording. Hope this helps!
I’d love to see how you troubleshoot latency between video and audio. I manage live stream at our house of worship and we are wanting to implement pro tools for our stream mix. The problem we have run into is our video is hitting before our audio. We’ve tried reducing buffer size as well as introducing a delayed into the mix but to no avail we can’t get synced up. Any ideas would helpful. I’m completely stumped. Thanks for the content.
@@chrisj5643 audio comes in from the front of house board into another board we use for mixing our broadcast then from that board into our ATEM ME/2 switcher. We have a delayed that sits between the broadcast board and the ATEM.
Try running everything through with no processing and see what kind of latency you're getting. If it's more than your lip-sync delay, you'll either have to delay the video or use a non-USB method to grab the audio. This is assuming your computer isn't slow or poorly configured.
Yeah congregation mics are amazzzing. Great mix! It’ll also allow you to use less processed reverb and makes things sound even more natural. Awesome job and great tut!

What the best way to do live stream on a persons 24by4 mixer
como você faz a transmissão sem latência no audio?
Do you need a Dante card
Curious why you didn't opt for tracks stacks in lieu of sending to busses?
Because I’m a Logic newb. Lol.

how to connect Allen & heath sq6 to Logic DAW
Hi. Could you share his all this routing is done? I pray you're not using Dante® 😅
How do I set up daw for broadcast someone please help
May I know how to use hardware mixer to control Logic Pro? Any suggestion?
I use the MCU Pro. really great and it gives you plugin control and is made for Logic unlike alot of others native to Ableton. I think Behringer might make a version as well.
How do you solo channels to monitor in Logic Pro X
How did you get the trigger thing working on drums?
Good stuff man. God bless you.
so guys, how do you do the delay time live?
We are currently using Logic for our broadcast mix, but I want to move away from it, as it has some annoying limitations and behaviors when it comes to broadcast mixing. I‘m thinking about moving to Reaper or Studio One.
What issues have you had with it that could be fixed with Reaper or Studio One?
Anther tip: think of using your dynamic EQ as a desser👍
I wish there was a way where I can leave the live stream unattended and have the mics sound good across the board
Oh goodness. I guess I have to start singing better at rehearsal 0_o
Is that possible tho??
Hahah
Greatest tip. Just let the instrument/vocal be natural first before adding some toppings to the cake ❤
Yet still triggers drums. Lol
@@scottkorber thats a food color😂
As a drummer and a sound guy, I have mixed feelings about drum replacement (sample triggers). I feel like most of the time the sound you wanted could have been achieved with EQ and compression.
I have to agree. When I mix recordings of our band the only time I replace a shell is if there is something really off. Even then I try to just augment the shell with a replacement. Controlling the microdynamics on drums is critical to get the impact and energy of the kit. Without it, yeah they sound like they need replaced.
Sounds like you need more body mic and less pickup/neck mic in that Taylor Guitar
What cans are you using? They look nice!
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro
We use Reason because it's what the last guy used who set-up the system. I'm not a fan simply because no one has had a chance to "learn" it. We basically mix it make it sound ... not gross.
It can’t be mixed and broadcasted live due to latency caused by plug-ins, right?
Have any of you tried using an iPad DAW to live stream? Curious to know if it’ll work! Haha
Can you send that templete

I’d love to see how you troubleshoot latency between video and audio. I manage live stream at our house of worship and we are wanting to implement pro tools for our stream mix. The problem we have run into is our video is hitting before our audio. We’ve tried reducing buffer size as well as introducing a delayed into the mix but to no avail we can’t get synced up. Any ideas would helpful. I’m completely stumped. Thanks for the content.
How are you getting your audio into your computer?
@@chrisj5643 audio comes in from the front of house board into another board we use for mixing our broadcast then from that board into our ATEM ME/2 switcher. We have a delayed that sits between the broadcast board and the ATEM.
Try running everything through with no processing and see what kind of latency you're getting. If it's more than your lip-sync delay, you'll either have to delay the video or use a non-USB method to grab the audio. This is assuming your computer isn't slow or poorly configured.
Of course the mix will sound good on a 10k system. How will this work on a system that doesn't have the greatest mics?
You don't need expensive mics for a good sounding broadcast mix. You may just need to do some more processing to get it to sound similar.
Please do it with Pro Tools!! or Ableton!
