- The newer USMC complete sleep system alnk.to/4Xv190H consists of a three-season sleeping bag, a cold-weather bag, a mesh bag for garrison storage, and two compression sacks alnk.to/gVKxQuB The smaller waterproof coyote brown compression bag is designed to compress the IBC (Improved Bivy Cover), three-season sleeping bag and it's roomy enough for a poncho liner. The Seal Line waterproof compression sack is a great option for military and civilian sleeping bags.

In the colder months where the outer bag (cold weather bag) is needed the smaller bag can be used for compressing or storing other items that need to be kept dry. The cold weather sleeping system, when assembled (three-season bag, cold weather bag, poncho liner, and IBC), needs to be rolled up from the foot and placed inside of the larger black Seal Line compression sack. The sleeping bags are then compressed down and placed in the sleeping compartment of the FILBE main pack.
As large as the new USMC sleeping bag system is I see no reason why the black Seal Line compression sack NSN:8465-01-608-7507 would not work for other sleeping bags. This SealLine Waterproof Black Dry Compression Sack for Extreme Cold will accommodate the older MMSS (Military Modular Sleep System) that includes the Gore-Tex bivy, green patrol bag, black cold weather bag, and poncho liner.

Thanks for doing these videos guys. Me and me dad use to go to Germany with two sea kayaks and paddle for a week or two. He turned 70 last week. So paying him a visit is a bit of a risk these days. These videos puts a smile on my face and lets me remeniss. greetings all the way from the Netherlands.
That is awesome, Av! Hopefully you'll get to see him soon with the both of you in great health. Thank you for watching and leaving us a comment, Av. Hallo!
Hi Curry, that's a nice stuff sack. Didn't know it existed. I could really use that for my MMSS system. I'll have to try and look one of those up! thanks for the video.
Jeff, it works perfectly with the MMSS.
Haha You could float down the darn Roanoke on that pack! You need to carve a walking stick that doubles as a paddle in case of an emergency flood! Heck a few tent poles and a tarp and you could probably fix a mast and sail to that thing and get on down the river in a hurry on a windy day, lol just some gear ideas for you guys :D great video as always.
My thoughts exactly! We're working on a video to show the complete FILBE system and just how awesome it is. Heavy? You better believe it. Bombproof? If it's not, I sure don't know what is.
Excellent and very informative you guy's are kicking out some awesome content!! Yall did a great job scoring all the gear for those prices (as mentioned in comment section) I'm trying to acquire all this to convert from ultralight gear to "bomb proof" (= I'm super pleased with the FILBE ruck for the price and minimal wear it was an excellent deal very pleased. I'm really digging all your videos guys keep it coming😁🤙
Thanks for the encouragment, Clearly Canadian! Military surplus is our favorite class of gear. It just fits our needs, and personality, for that matter.
Awesome !!
Thnxs for uploading and sharing this 👍🏻🇺🇸
You got it, 281!
Very good video. I have 2 "ILBE bag kits that we have divided up between Two adults and the Assault bags are carried by two teenage boys(AS I am 57 and my wife is 41) We still enjoy being out doors but are getting too old to carry 120 pounds each. If Propper would have only adjusted the back padding to accommodate the new body armor and included a zipper on the bottom for the Sleep system. The original design would have peen perfect. I hear young marines hate the new design as do most civilians. I got out before either was issued and have tried both versions. The Tan however is a lot harder to conceal in a Jungle or green environment.
Hopefully we can get our hands on a couple of the ILBE main packs some time this year. We've been pretty pleased how well the coyote brown conceals in our area.
I was taught the black bag goes INSIDE the green (intermediate inside the payroll)...
That's how the instructions illustrate as well. But, through use, we feel like we were warmer with the green patrol bag inside of the black bag. Think of it like putting your green sweater on the outside of your large black coat. It works, but, our way just seems to feel warmer.
@@robertsbushcraft on the instruction video they made for us on the MARINES RUclips channel they used the black on the outside. It’s really just preference
Love all the military surplus vids! The MMSS is squared off at the foot vs. mummy of the newer bag. I like that extra room. Like the net on the ibc. Is the woobie normally carried w/the newer system together w/the inner, outer bags and improved bivy? Thought the newer system was a little lighter and narrower but the woobie would make up the weight difference. Don't believe I could get a woobie into the MMSS system compression bag w/ the other two bags and bivy and have it fit in my mol ll large backpack
The newer system is smaller, but, not to the point of feeling claustrophobic. As far as weight? If you were to close our eyes and pick them up one in each hand you'd be hard-pressed to guess which is which. The newer system may be lighter but it sure to me does not feel like it.
The 3 season bag comes in two sizes, a REGULAR for those who are 5'11" or shorter and the LARGE bag for those 6'0 and taller. Both Gabriel and I use the large bag. The black bag is supposed to be one size fits all and it's roomy. I am seeing there is a Regular/Long outer bag NSN: 8465-01-608-7503 and an X-Long outer bag NSN: 8465-01-623-2346. I am not certain if what I have is newer and is truly one size fits all or if it's older and the NSN's above reflect the newer issue. It's hard to keep up with to be honest.
Gabriel and I both feel like we need more room in the bivy and I am just now finding out that there are two versions of it, a regular size NSN: 8465-01-574-4005 and an X-long NSN: 8465-01-611-6047. Inside my bivy it says "One Size Fits All". I'm going to research that and see if I can find a larger bivy. That said, I do not think it was intended for the woobie to be stored inside of the bags, it's just something I do in the colder months as it's less for me to fiddle around with when setting up camp.
I don't have the MII large backpack (but will one day when I find a deal I can't refuse) so I can't say for sure that all of it will compress down and fit in there but I'd sure give it a shot!
I like the BGM choice bro ! 🤣👍
BGM?
Why have I always been told by my marine friends that you guys got issued crappy stuff. From what I’ve looked into, after discovering your guy’s bivy at a surplus store, y’all got way better stuff than I did in the army!
The old ALICE gear had seen its better days, but, this newer gear? This newer gear is awesome!
It’s not the gear it’s the condition of said gear lol
@@Conan361 condition of said gear matters 100%!
Alot of why the 3s bag gets alot of negative feedback is due to user error. Either guys sleep in them in their full (non insulting, moisture trapping) cammies and boots, or they dont use the recommended warming layers stated in the users guide. Or they simply are using them at temps lower than what they are rated for. I've never had a problem with keeping warm in the 3s bag
Everything negative that I've heard and read about this bag leads me to believe that you are correct on this. The visual user's guide illustrates exactly what you are to wear inside of the bag to keep warm at varying temps. Sticking to that guide has kept me from being cold! I like these bags and bivy very much. Thanks for watching and commenting, Isaac!
Oohrah jarhead. I hope this was an 03×× class. Semper Fi 0331
Oohrah!
How is the weight and footprint of the new Marine sleep system vs the old MSS? I own the MSS but I find it's rather heavy with all 3 parts and takes up a lot of room in my ILBE pack even with the 6 strap compression sack. I want to love it, but hate losing the room. Not sure if I should opt for a civilian bag or upgrade to the marine system. Opinions?
Hi Curry, Great video! Very informative. What are the hydration pouches really used for? It's not to put empty camelbak pouches is it? And the sustainment pouches go on each side of the Filbe pack? Just trying to figure out where to place things. thanks!!
Those hydration pouches are designed to be worn on your back or on a pack such as the FILBE main. Fill up the hydration bladder and attach it to your carrier/vest rig or attach to the pack. We don't carry as much water as most probably would because of the abundance of water we have all around us at the river and creeks on the farm. We'll take enough to make sure we're well hydrated for the hike in to our camp, water is one area where we are able to shed a few carried pounds.
helped figure this sht out lol
You're welcome!
GOOD DAY TO YOU SIR....AWESOME BIT OF RIGHT THERE I WOULD LOVE THAT LOADOUT I REALLY WOULD SQUARES AWAY REAL GOOD ,I WILL LOOK INTO PURCHASING THE PACK AND SLEEP SYSTEM IN THE NEAR FUTURE,INSTEAD OF BRITISH ARMY TO MIX IT UP A BIT,INSTEAD HAVE NEVER HAD ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT BUT BRITISH SO THE CHANGE WILL BE A PLEASANT SURPRISE FOR.IF YOU DONT MIND ME ASKING HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR THE PACK AND THE THREE SEASON SET UP...THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME HAVE A BLESSED DAY STAY SAFE OUT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GOD BLESS
Here's where patience pays off: the price. I paid $85.00USD for the FILBE main pack, issued and used, but it looked new to me so I jumped on that deal.
The 3 season bag was purchased for 19.99! It had a rip in the seam (look at 0:31 in the video just above the palm of my hand) that was EASILY repairable. The black extreme cold weather bag was also purchased for 19.99! It had a small rip in the foot box and again EASILY repaired.
The bivy was purchased for 19.99! It had a rip in the face net. Guess what? EASILY repaired! Needle, thread and about 20 minutes of sewing and I had a perfectly serviceable bivy.
The 3 season compression sack was purchased for 5.99. The top fold of the closure was ripped. Care to guess? EASILY repaired with duct tape. No leaks, holes or rips anywhere else on the bag. A little duct tape and it's waterproof. Gabriel's video on the 3 Day Pack shows more detail on what we did to fix it. Look around the 17:38 time: ruclips.net/video/AemHu_EbBG8/видео.html
So, in total we picked up two FILBE main packs in excellent condition for $85.00USD a piece, two 3 Season Long bags for 19.99 USD per bag (both had easily repairable damage), two black cold weather bags (both had easily repairable damage) for 19.99 USD per bag, two of the 3 Season compression bags (both had easily repairable damage) for 5.99 USD each and one bivy (easily repairable damage) for 19.99 USD. If you look at the prices on Ebay you'll quickly see that we scored on that gear haul.
@@robertsbushcraft I TOTALLY AGREE YOU GOT A GREAT BANG FOR BUCK YOUR THAT'S FOR SURE, I'M GOING TO KEEP MY EYES PEELED AND I WILL GET THAT SET UP MAY BE HAVE TO PAY A BIT MORE BUT I DO LIKE THAT LOADOUT ....A BIG THANKS FOR GETTING BACK TO ME AND LETTING ME KNOW.....APPRECIATE THAT GOD BLESS 👍👍
Well, I guess that covers Military sleep systems. Lol.. I roll with the Patrol and Intermediate Cold Weather bags. By chance, do you guys use any Medium rucks??
The only medium ruck we have is the ALICE pack.
How well does the 3 season Sleep system work for side sleepers?
There is plenty of room for side sleepers. This bag is comparable, although slightly smaller, to the older green MMSS patrol bag.
I just got out of the Marines. The new system sucks compared to the mss
We've got both systems and do prefer the complete new system over the older system. Did you get issued the black outer bag with the new system?
The Green bag is to be used on the OUTSIDE of the Black bag.
That is how it was designed, but I prefer it on the inside of the black bag. It feels warmer to me that way.
The newer system shown in this video is designed to have the 3 season bag fit inside of the black bag. This system replaced the older MMSS.
Please do a video on how to assemble the MSS sleep system. I have 2 the snaps seem to be installed wrong on the 2 inner bags I can't figure it out? I'm stumped lol thanks.
That's a fantastic idea for a future video, Michael. I'll see what we can do!
where can I get one of those black seal line waterproof stuff sack? I been looking everywhere for those, I want to get it for the old sleeping system its such a hassle to put that thing in the cloth bag
That's the $64k question that nobody has an answer to just yet. Keep an eye on ebay, these will hit the market in small lots and get sold pretty quick. It may be worth reaching out to SealLine and see if they can sell one directly.
I have the same setup but I need more room in my bag so I removed the sleeping bag which is in the waterproof bag but I need to attach it to the bottom of my Fible. Do you have suggestions on how to attach it?
Where did you get that coyote color sleeping bag cover with the net? That is incredible
I've got the usmc sleep system. Is this different than my setup?
You have the new system that's coyote brown? If so, this is the same as what you are issued.
@@robertsbushcraft no, mine has the MARPAT camo. I can get the updated bivy though I believe
@@tnpis4me ah, are you talking about the poncho liner? One issued poncho liner has a zipper that allows the liner to be zipped up like a sleeping bag. The other is zipperless like what I have in the video. Both are issued gear, I believe the unit decides which liner geat at supply.
Just a quick question, do you have an issue with your Extreme sleep system dry compression bag re inflating over time after you purge it? I have this issue with mine and I've been trying to figure out how I could leak test it to fix the issue unless it has to deal with the actual seal itself...
If I'm not careful with my folds, yes, it will allow air back in. That said, the majority of the time no air gets back inside. One of my MACS sacks is starting to reinflate after compressing and I'm going to fill it with water to see where it's leaking. I'll probably use Seam Grip to seal it if it is something that I can fix.
En dónde puedo comprar uno de esos ?
These can be hard to come by! Keep an eye out on ebay as well as other surplus sites. To help you search, look for this NSN: 8465-01-608-7507
If you are interested, the nsn for the seal line bag for the FILBE main pack is 8465-01-613-1251. Haven't seen many for sale online, but the surplus stores in Jacksonville near lejune have em, or if you have access to base, the PX carries them. I have found that the ilbe liner doesn't even come close to fitting the FILBE pack. Which sucks for us Marines, because CIF doesn't want to do their jobs and buy the correct ones (even though they are not authorized to maintain the old liner per the SL-3 list)
So the FILBE liner is in fact bigger? That one is hard to find and I didn't know that there is a difference in size. That is awesome to know and thanks for sharing that knowledge, Isaac! Semper Fi!
@@robertsbushcraft not sure if i would say bigger, but fits better considering the ilbe is tall and narrow while the filbe short and wide
What ruck is that?
That is the USMC FILBE main ruck: ebay.us/W4aH60
Just use two plastic bags for garbage...cheaper easier and works just as well
Cheaper and easier, yes, I agree. Works just as well? Not even close. This Seal Line compression bag made for the USMC sleep system was designed to protect the bags from the elements as well as nineteen year-old Marines fresh into the fleet. Thanks for watching and leaving us a comment, Joao!
@@robertsbushcraft oh no of course if you put it outside of the backpack..it will rip easily, i only use those type of bags for my tent..
