Lame comment section here. I don't play the guitar, but I love slayer and everything that generates there sound. Have fun debating over pointless shit. I'll just pop in Hell Awaits
Actually, I've seen Michael Angelo Batio live, he is quite an amazing guitarist. My point here was simply that music does not have to be complicated to be good, and Kerry King is a great example of that. As to me being a "noob" I've been playing guitar for 9 years and have taken several classes in music theory, I just prefer Slayer's riffs because they easily get stuck in your head, unlike the virtuoso type players. Don't misunderstand, I love them too, they are just different to listen to.
Why is everybody on the internet so stupid? If you like Slayer, good for you! If you like Megadeth, good for you! if you don't like either of them, good for you too! Dont waste your time comenting on what you dont like
Guys who think that Rockmusic is about good musicianship are just wrong. If you think its like that then go and listen to 70s Prog Rock or Jazz or some other shit. Rock is emotion man, intense emotion to be specific. You take your feelings and you write a song about it. Everyone can do that and everyone is allowed to do that. Thats what Rock Music inherited from Blues Music (a lot of famous blues musicians are not that good with their instruments). Thrash Metal is a genre that deals a lot with feelings that are usually perceived as negative (hate, anger, agression). Thats all there is to it. Something pisses you off write an angry song about it and Slayer have always been excellent at this.
I don't understand all the hate Kerry gets. To me he always sounds like a nice guy in interviews, and while it's true that Jeff wrote most of my favorite Slayer songs. Kerry also wrote enough kick ass stuff.
Thanks for reminding me bro. Here I am trying to learn licks while dreading going to work tomorrow, and you reinforce the fact that I'm not touring the world and being a metal legend. Lol
Actual neck-through one or a cheapo bolt-on? Anyhow, BC Rich's are a hit or miss. I own a bolt-on KKV I bought off a friend for 150 bucks in mint condition, put an X2N in the bridge and for the money this guitar fucking rips. And I've also heard of people getting their higher end models with sharp fret edges and whatnot. Really, the company's been a bit of a mess in the last few years.
Comparing Jeff to Kerry again? Really? Its getting old. Kerry isn't a greedy douche. He's looking out for his band, for his fans. If it wasn't for Kerry we wouldn't have slayer. Kerry taught Jeff how to play better. Kerry fuckin rules
Megadeth better than Pantera and Slayer combined and even Metallica? You must be high. While I'm loyal to Megadeth from growing up listening to them and the likes I can't say they outweigh those heavy hitters.
Hi My name is Kerry Kunt and i suck at the guitar at slayer. I dont know how the hell this band maintained 30 years with my shit skills in it " aww i think its minor or major and just run it down the neck"
I find the latest comments on this video nuts, Kerry King is a master and genius when it comes to guitar and music. This dude is freakin' awesome! (my opinion I understand this)
I like how Jimi mixed the minor pentatonic and mixolydian in Purple Haze, and he did some other interesting stuff in other tunes... like many of his contemporaries (Beatles, Cream, etc.) he was pushing the envelope musically. I got a weird CD of Jimi's in a truck stop and every song sucked... however, there were still a few riffs (even by his keyboard player) that influenced a lot of chromaticism in my writing (along with Kerry King, Randy Rhoads, and some others).
Honestly, when I first started, I did the same. Just remember to master alternate picking, and then you can practice whatever you want. Now that Ive played for eight years (I got 5th in shred the web 2) I figure you can play whatever you decide you wanna play, its just a matter of how long it will take you to get it.
Kerry fucking nails the riff from 'Angel of Death' in this video. I've never seen him play it so clean before - if only he could play it this well live! The 'Spirit In Black' solo except is also brilliant...not as easy to play as it may look.
It's what Total Guitar magazine call the videos that are included on the cd-rom that comes with their magazine. As far as I am aware it's not broadcast on any tv channel...
It doesn't really matter that much. Slayer's riffs alone were the responsible for extreme metal creation. The caotic guitar solos, non stop disarmonic riffs and sadistic lyrics were the foundation for many other metal subgenres. Also, Kerry's live presence is sensation. Pure hateful headbanging. He was born to this band.
That's good of you to say, Timmy. He is talented in a way though, he never learned any music theory back in the day when they recorded most of those tunes, and I quote my Drummer yesterday "...for a Metal band back in the '80's, Slayer grooved heavily!". ;) The thing I like about Kerry King is that he's written some really heavy harmonized chromatic riffs that will actually form new neural pathways in your brain the first time you hear them. :)
He's a person he happens to play guitar He managed to become one of the few in the flood followers to be a leader, to be known and to make a good life and living doing it. Every where I go on the internet or in the world for that matter there's always a malcontent.

I think every Slayer record has its own niche. Most people would probably say Diabolus was pretty weak too, but I fucking love it. And God Hates is just fucking soul crushing. Whenever I get pissed and feel like killing people, I put that record on, lol.
Guide to kerry king: Get floyd rose guitar, set it up half step down, crank distortion, palm mute open e and then do some sliding power chords. for soloing start on any random ass shape and wiggle the floyd rose.
he was described as the best rhythm guitarist by Dave Ellefson and Dave Mustaine said hes good, all your arguments and opinions are invalid and until you can do the spider crawl riff in raining blood then sit down and stop talking shit about someones guitar playing and hating on someone because your pals do it or you think its popular to do so
I used to have that same guitar but it was the starter pack one from BC Rich. The resemblance is with the body and the decal on it. I loved that guitar it was my first one ever. Yeras later I traded it for a black les paul with gold hardware. And no not one of the crazy expensive les pauls lol
absolutely agree.. with one exception.. the neckthrough designs with the EMGs are pretty good.. hadnt bought one, but I've test driven em a buunch at guitar center.. probably the best one is the Jr. V cuz they never have the King or Chuck S. sig models at any of the stores I've been to.

Aah, I see what you mean. That is true, I agree. it was just weird/impressive that you analyzed it so well, yet the way the music was written was due to a lack of understanding and a basis in feel. My point was more that rather than define his music by dissecting it as you did, I would explain it more in terms of feel and a certain mindset one needs to be in to hear/write these sounds if you get what i mean

Kerry's tuning: E E E E E E
Lol when I started playing I thought that was how you tuned to E standard.

The greatest guitar player of all time. It is either Kerry King or Jeff Henneman.
Sure mate..
Kerry's leads might not be the best. But hands down the best riffs ever written by a metal group! Slayer #1
this is more about Hanneman
