I always thought about how splash mountain was probably gonna close in my lifetime, I just didn't expect it to close this early. RIP splash mountain.
The ride is 31 years old

I loved Splash Mountain I thought it was so cute with all those little animals !
@@xMuffinox yeah! Viva la Splash Mountain!😄
Splash Mountain was my favorite ride. I had write it for over a year.😢
I can’t believe they are gonna change this perfect ride. True Disney magic.
It's far from perfect, even when it's all working properly, it has a theme that's very much controversial to the point that it's a major shock it survived for as long as it did. Seriously, be glad this ride remained around as long, because honestly, with Disney trying to get rid of anything and everything Song of the South related in the 90s, Splash could very well have been shut down back then and either torn down or left to rot until a new theme could replace it.
@@jish55 yeah I’m sure they were gonna tear down their brand new ride that costs millions in the 90s 💀
@@coledoucette5116 Well they wouldn't tear it down, they would most likely just retheme it
@@calsand6 yeah sadly
Get Over IT ALREADY, Its Already been changing, Id Like Something New and Better Replacement for Splash Mountain, TIANAS Bayou Adventure, your crazy
@aloneinfiction4101
Splash is one of those rides that makes me love disneyland. The look, the music, the story, the smell. It will always be one of my favorite rides at disneyland - especially when you ride it at night!
Splash Mountain is definitely quintessential Disney for the reasons you laid out; classic story, great use of the ride system, the catchy music, and a gorgeous looking exterior.
i can smell the ride just watching this
Jacob Bonlender iiiii
Jacob Bonlender Mee toooooo.
It's the bromine they put in the water I found out!!!
Julian Martinez how do you do?
I was working at Disneyland during the original Splash Mountain and testing. There was a huge publicity campaign cooordinated with McDonald for an early spring opening but, the original logs were too heavy and they took on too much water when they splashed down. Those were the days because, , being an attractions host on Big Mountain Thunder Railroad, the word got out tha they needed volunteers to ride the ride after work. Several of ous cast members did so and we got totally drenched but it was tons of fun. Another thing was that this testing was going on as the local grad nights, for high school graduates was going on. Thus while they were partying, Splash Mountain had yet to be open for the public thus, we got to ride and ride again while those visiting had to look on.
Paul Delgadillo wow that’s an awesome story, thanks for sharing :)
I was working at the park too at the time. The other problem is that the original logs were too long preventing them from making it through the curves in the flume.
Do you remember how they altered the music to laughing place as the original pre-opening music was too ominous and dark?
Paul Delgadillo hey I was just wondering when you rode did they have the animatronics all ready or any animatronics removed from pre view to public. I am sorry if that was too much to ask I just really love the history of animatronics and I am trying to find out what happened to a few animatronics from America sings that were never repurposed.Thank you for reading
I'm an adult, and I'm not afraid to admit that I love Splash Mountain
L8RG8R2U, you don't need to be a kid to love Disney, the resorts are for everyone.
Ben Jacobs I agreed This fun Amusement Park is not just for the kids it's for the Who Family across the world.
L8RG8R2U i do too but i hate that drop.
I'm 45 and its my favorite ride there. When me and my daughter do rope drop, its almost always our first ride.
L8RG8R2U You Dont need to be afraid dude, that is totally fine cuz lots of Adults enjoy DisneyLand too, ya know?
Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom had a soft opening on July 17, 1992 and officially opened on October 1, 1992. On October 2, 1992 the ride opened in Tokyo Disneyland. The reason the logs are not typical logs at Magic Kingdom was because as they were simultaneously building the Tokyo ride, they came up against the cultural taboo of having people sit in between the legs of another. When they adjusted the logs for side by side for Tokyo, they realized the loading on and off was faster side by side and adjusted the logs for Magic Kingdom. Also, the logs in Anaheim Disneyland have been modified (like the Bobsleds in the Matterhorn) so each rider has a backrest. Before you sat in between another and the back rider became the backrest for the person in front.
I knew Tony Baxter, when I worked at the main WDI building at Epcot. He is such humble, friendly person. Very likable. I never heard anybody say anything bad about him.
Lanny Benny Aww lucky! You get to work with one of the most IMPORTANT people from Disney. Noice dude.
Marty Sklar was totally cool as well and it was my greatest privilege to meet Ken Anderson before he did an art signing at the Disney Galary above Pirates in New Orleans Square. Again, I was an attractions host at the time and I always arrived early. There was a lost looking tall older looking gentleman with his wife. I asked "Are you the Disney legend Ken Anderson?" The man replied in the affirmative and then I got the lowdown. Ken and several of the surviving "Old Men" were asked to do special portraits. They weren't told why and, while they were paid a bit of a commission, the exact painting of the Wicked Witch from Snow White, a character Ken designed and animated, was selling for over tweny nine thousand dollars. I looked at the man as commented. "I sure wish that I could afford that paining, it's spectacular." Ken looked at me, gave me th low down about being asked to paint and his final reply was. "I wish I had the money to buy that painting back!"
I remember riding Splash mountain as a 5 year old kid. Even at 18 years old now, I love the Disney parks!
If Disney ever removes Splash Mountain I will die 😭😭
Same, its my favorite disney ride.
doge dog Yes same if Disney removes Small World.
So true. Hope it will stay in DLParis forever!
Pascal Herr there’s no Splash Mountain in Disneyland Paris.
Doom Demon I know, that was the gag 😔 but it still makes me sad!
This series is fantastic! I would love a video on more famous attractions.
Splash Mountain is the best ride in the universe!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I loved America Sings and Bear Country Jamboree. I’m surprised that it was losing popularity. Those shows also offered a kick back experience for those tired of waiting in lines and the crowds or tired of walking and need a break.
Splash will always be near the top of my ride list!
I was happy to see my uncle in this. He was the art director for this attraction.
To this day I honestly find it quite strange that Disney's executives, the same people who refuse to even acknowledge Song of the South's existence (let alone re-release it in its entirety in North America) for various reasons, actually green-lit a big budget E-ticket attraction based on it. Thankfully, that attraction turned out to be a total classic. So in the end, it all worked out for the best. :)
I did not realize it was an addition to Disney World later. We all love Splash Mountain. (It seems like we are getting more wet now than a few years ago) :-( It's neat knowing the history! Great video. To anyone that reads this comment, have a magical day sprinkled with pixie dust!
Am3d3o Great to hear!
bluescity1Disney Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Pirates Ride, Haunted Mansion, Small World, Thunder Mountain will never be replaced in Magic Kingdom. They are all time classics.
bluescity1Disney im in Disney right now andmsplash mountains my favorite ride but its under maintence 😩
DaGreenChicken YT yeah a lot of rides are under maintenance because of the Irma hurricane.
Michael Tardi it wasnt because of the hurricane they were just working on it my mom said it would be under maintnence like 2 months ago
Wow, those were some really great photos of construction of the ride that I've never seen before.
I remember Grad night 1989. And hearing them testing Splash Mountain. All my friends kept you'll test ride It. Of course they said No. But it's a nice memory. And yes I Love Splash Mountain.
That looks cool
My favorite ride! And yay you're back!
This is my favorite ride.thank you so much for this video.🙂
I remember riding Splash Mountain shortly after it opened in 92 and just took my daughter on it this past Saturday.Loved it then and still do!!
I enjoyed this attraction so much when I was younger. It's so sad that it'll be renamed as The Princess and the Frog which has our First Black Princess, Tiana. 😿
Did anyone else notice the kid's hat flying off at 4:48? 😂😂😂
Carousel of Progress, America Sings and Bear Jamberee all 3 were a hit with me. I loved the shows.
You never mentioned the corporate cross promotional idea to name the ride Splash Mountain after the Tom Hanks film Splash.
We had to cut some things out, not to make this video too long. There is a slight mention of the mermaid Eisner wanted the Imagineers to add into the attraction at 3:38
I was thinking the same thing. I knew about the Splash film so I understood what you meant but I'm sure the mermaid part confused a lot of people who didn't know lol
I am so glad I read this comment and its replies. It clears up the strange mention of Imagineers turning down the idea of a mermaid, when no mention of a mermaid preceded it.
I'd like to know where you got this information. I've read everything about this ride. Everything. I've NEVER read about a tie-in with the movie Splash. Splash was released in 1984 and was long forgotten before this ride opened in 1989 at Disneyland. Also - mermaid? Really? Why would there EVER be a mermaid in this ride? It is totally themed after the movie "Song of the South," with iconic characters from the old south and the stories of Uncle Remus. Plus, many of the AudioAnimatronics were from a former show at Disneyland called "America Sings." Again, no mermaid in sight. The word SPLASH was used because the ride includes water. The word MOUNTAIN was used because it continued the tradition of a mountain range at Disneyland, including Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain. Again, I'll need some confirmed references in order to believe that the word Splash used in this attraction had ANYTHING at all to do with a movie that was five years old before this attraction opened.
The plot of the movie splash wasn't meant for the ride. The original ride name was Zip a Dee River Run but was changed to Splash Mountain to try and promote the movie somehow. It also had a better ring to it.
Yay my favourite ride ever! I am always sad that they didn't end up making a Splash Mountain at Disneyland Paris though, as it is my closest park. But I think it is worth the travel to America because it is such a fantastic and fun ride ❤️
I remember them talking about this on the Disney Channel when it first opened (though I don't remember which version it was). I was terrified at the thought of going on it, but now it's one of my favorites. :P
3:41 what mermaid???
National Sarcasm Society we had to cut some footage out for the sake of time. Eisner also pushed the name "Splash Mountain" to help cross promote Touchstone's films (which Disney owns) hit "Splash" starring Tom Hanks. So Eisner wanted the imagineers to include a mermaid audio animatronic
Yay! Please post more often!
Best ride in the Kingdom.... Nice job.
His voice sounds like the frosty nights narrator :) love you splash mountain!
There really should be at least a mention that Don Carson worked heavily on the exterior designs of each of the versions.
The audio track for Disneyland's Splash Mountain included some great music by Disney's Dapper Dans. These tracks were from the 1980's. Rick Allen, a Dapper Dan for 16 years, left Disney in the late 1980's and became the choir teacher at Ukiah High School in Ukiah, CA. His voice was included in the music.
4:48 hat falls off
Just an adult who loves Disney! The footage is amazing ! Thanks !
This Is Real Life thanks for watching
AMagicProduction no problem! It was amazing def subscribing to your channel !
i poured all the concrete on splash mountain at disneyworld...one of my most awesome expierences
Harold George wow, that is awesome. Thanks for contributing to the magic;)
tell us more!!! What do you remember about going to work and what it was like?
BIG Thunder Mountain. The "Big" is an integral part of the name for that attraction. Just a little pet peeve of mine. ;-) As always, I love your videos. Keep it up! :-D
freddy2B big Thunder Mountain Railroad*
freddy2B but "big thunder" refers to dynamite..
Jacob Bonlender Heyyyyyy, I saw you on the Guardians Of The Galaxy: Monsters After Dark video about the ending having a TOT sound.
Definitely a Pet Peeve of mine too....BIG THUNDER MOUNTAIN
@@jacobbonlender1378 Actually, Big Thunder refers to the Big Thunder peak of Cascade Falls in the Mine Train through Nature's Wonderland, the attraction that proceded it
1. I remember in 2004 I rode Splash Mountain and somehow I got to ride it again without stopping to get off which was pretty sweet
2. Bring back the Country Bear Jamboree!!! I want to see it!!!
Country Bear Jamboree still operates at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World... one of the few things we have that Disneyland doesn't ;)
Nicely Done!
Subscribed!
In California Disneyland, Bear Country was retitled Critter Country in 1989 due to the animals more than bears were installed, such as America Sings characters (the geese quartet etc.) and the unique ones from Song of the South (Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Fox, and Br'er Bear) where they were addressed for Splash Mountain.
I've Been On The Splash Mountain Log Flume Boat Ride At Disneyland Resort Los Angeles In The United States Of America Back In Easter 2016. It Was Based On The 1946 Oscar Winning Disney Live Action And Animatied Movie Song Of The South. Thanks AMagicProduction Mate. X 🎪
I hope they still build it at Disneyland Paris
We all do... there'd be plenty of space around the Chaparral Theater and Frontierland station area!
Even if they pot it on the old Creek Ranch
The chances are really unlikely :(
Thomas Koreman They can’t because of the weather in Europe because the weather in Europe is very cold and splash Mountain mechanical structure can’t function in super cold climate☹️
If they did build it, they'd have to close it during the frigid cold months.
4:48 that yellow cap 🧢 goes flying off into the abyss of the splash mountain water 😊😆
I always have to get fast passes for splash mountain any time I do to Disney world
I adored America Sings! I was very sad when it closed!
It closed because stone’s parent sued Disneyland by the death of their daughter
@@cuteness12- I don’t think so. She died early in the show’s run. It was still running in the early 80s, when I was a kid.
Iconic song and ride ❤️
I love splash 😭 I’m glad Tokyo is keeping their splash mountain I will go there someday
4:48 Never ever under ANY circumstances wear a hat on Splash Mountain!
I've been trying to find out what the sign at the bottom of Disneyland's finale drop says. Does anyone know? Of course the logs whip by so fast, combined with all the mist, but there must be a record of it somewhere, right?
Florida's Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland versions of Splash Mountain have more western characteristics for the terrains resembling western canyons and also the soundtrack with banjos, fiddles, and harmonicas but in Tokyo some songs are being sung in Japanese.
Awesome video! The only thing I can think of that could improve this video is to mention the history of critter country. Maybe that could be a new video and it can talk about how those aspects connect to splash mountain today
Funniest ride ever! :D
Fabulous Documentey About The Splash Mountain At Disneyland. X
Luke Green Thank You.
Oh Thanks AMagicProduction Mate. X
If I'm honest I would've subscribed faster if you used the normal splash mountain song at the end. But I still did 😀
What is the version of the song in the end credits? I’ve never heard it before and can’t locate it.
RIP that guys hat
Well Space Mountain in Disneyland has a double seater and Space Mountain in Magic kingdom has a one seater.
TheEnderGirl same with splash mountain, mk has 2 seets and a handle bar but disneyland doesnt
Does anyone know what the outro song is called?
Save Splash Mountain
Went to Disneyland for my Grad Night back in 95, nothing like riding Splash Mountain at midnight.
On January 23rd, 2023 Splash Mountain will officially closed after 30 years of Operation at Orlando Florida before it's make way for (Tiana's Bayou Adventure)
What’s that last song? I’d love to listen to it.
Great vid
I used to be terrified of this ride now I love it but I was also way younger back then I'm almost 30 now lol
IM GOING IN 40 days!!! ITS MY FAVORITE RIDE and I have a pin of it too!!
Rest In Peace Splash Mountain 😑😭🪵🐻🦊🐰🌊
My absolute favorite ride at Walt Disney world
it's also at Disneyland you know...
The Mysterious Gravity Falls Person there are differences between the Disneyland one and the WDW one so maybe they just have a preference and like the Disney World one 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ I love the WDW one but that doesn't diminish the Disneyland one
The Disneyland one is soooo much better though. Which is why I was confused. It's longer, bigger, more stuff to look at, and better in general. It also has better music.
The Mysterious Gravity Falls Person the Florida one has a more South Georgia feel to it and I really like it, plus I prefer the Walt Disney world log vehicles. The one in disneyland is nice too! I just grew up with and am very partial to the Walt Disney world version :)
I like the ride viechles in Florida better too... but besides that there's nothing. I've always enjoyed the length and detail of Disneyland much better than DIsneyworld but that's just my opinion.
Great stuff as usual. Surprised not in Hong Kong or Shanghai
Thank You. I'm more surprised it wasn't built in Hong Kong Disneyland since Eisner was a big proponent of cloning rides to other parks (Splash Mountain is a very expensive attraction) and Disney did not want to put up a lot of money if the park failed (like Disneyland Paris).
As for Shanghai, the Chinese government made it very clear they wanted little to no representation of 'Americana', hence no Frontierland, no Main Street USA... and most likely no Splash Mountain.
7:33 This Music Is Funky. Thanks AMagicProduction Mate. X
your a pretty cool channel i love it
couchman1056 thank you : )
What was in the spot of splash mountain before they built it?
At Walt Disney World it was the Frontierland train station, which they moved and elevated the station when they built Splash Mountain
The greatest ride of all time no more :(
Sadly not. Although there is a version in Tokyo that is operating- and in our humble opinion was the best version out do the 3! It even has a Splash Mountain themed restaurant!
I liked space mountain my slef I'm 48 and last time i road space mountain i was like 7 or 8 years i know have three boys and my oldest son is going to take my youngest son down to walt Disney world in the summer of 2018 if my youngest son keeps up his grades
The 2,000th LIKE is me! Let me say I love Disney a lot, that's all, from Japan.
プシュケキューピッド Awesome, thank you!
Who's the artist singing the outro of Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah?
4:48 that's unfourtunate
It was an ugly hat anyway.
True
What version of the song is played at the end?
I've been looking for the song too. Surprisingly Shazam couldn't figure it out and I haven't found it by searching yet. Please do share the name and artist if you know
ruclips.net/video/M3eV0wfs-ew/видео.html
You just skimmed over the part where an employee was crushed by the moving platforms of America sings
As a history of the attraction, some of the problems were left out. Originally, the logs/boats wouldn't fit through the channel at Disneyland's Splash Mountain, requiring massive re-working of the flume.
The Splash Mountain in Tokyo Disneyland is amazing (they are all great but...). The wait area goes inside the mountain and has stunning looking caves. The ride itself is also longer and looks better in all ways. If you ever get to Japan... ride it.
TimmyME lol when doesn’t Tokyo Disneyland have a better ride version than the US Parks
Hahah true... but it is extra obvious in Splash Mountain.
Let's not forget their Winnie the Pooh ride also puts every other version to shame. But you are correct, their Splash Mountain (that whole area) is really amazing, not mention their Splash Mountain restaurant is really cool as well.
I'm going to Tokyo DisneySea in a week:)))
I love the splash mountain theme zippy do da so mush
Thanks
Love his voice
Really upset that Splash is gone because its one of those rides that should've never have gotten a retheme
And i know one exists in Japan but I know a lot of people like me either don't have the money or the papers to be able to fly to Japan for a log ride, shame on Disney for not thinking about the lower class
Ay! I was born July 21... The Disney World one opened the same week I was born :D
Ingraham John You have the same birthday as me!
Also did you know that the animatronics from america sings were recycled and used in the splash mountain attraction?
the cool thing about splash mountain in florida is that they use an real reptile that being an alligator
I live in the greenville sc so are downtown looks likes splash mountian we have water fall
Can you do the history of the Main Street electrical parade
Splash Mountain at Both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom Disney World is already staring its Retheming as Tianas Bayou Adventure.
#DisneyDiva ❤
Does anybody remember that movie Ernest Goes to Splash Mountain?
It sucks that when I'll be going this October, it'll be closed for refurbishment ):
AFGaming - Tell me about it! I'm arriving there just as it's shutting and its shut for the duration I'm there. Gutted!
AFGaming Sorry to hear that, its one of my favorite rides! Hopefully one day you'll get to go back when it's open.
I literally changed the dates of my vacation to fit it around that refurb! Fingers crossed you will get to ride it another time.
When is it set to open again?
I think it has already reopened Sarah Meyers
Farewell Splash Mountain 😑😭🪵🐻🦊🐰🌊
I rode this ride at night. At Disneyland. I was so cold because the splash mountain workers . Let me and my family rode this ride for 5 times. The worse thing was walking to the parking and waiting for the tram
Fun fact: Splash Mountain at Disneyland's layout is a clone of Timber Mountain Log Run at Knott's Berry Farm.
By the way, -10 points for failing tomention who actually designed the ride: Arrow Developments of Clearfield, Utah.
Alex Snitzer eh I think you might want to check your facts, Splash Mountain's (Disneyland) layout is not a clone of Knotts, they are quite different. And the manufacturer is Hopkins Rides... not Arrow
AMagicProduction Huh, ACE was wrong on that one. Learn something every day, I suppose.
You may want to do one on the very fruitful relationship Disney had with Arrow, though. Autopia, Space Mountain (Florida), Matterhorn, Dumbo, it's a small world, Pirates, the steamboats, Casey Jr. Railroad...
Interestingly, Disney now has a similar relationship with Vekoma: Paris's Space Mountain, all of the BTMRs, Expedition Everest, Gadget's Go Coaster, TRON Lightcycle Power Run, Grizzly Mountain Mine Cars, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, and Barnstormer are all Vekoma designs. I'm not sure about Seven Dwarfs, the Tokyo or California Space Mountains, or the other Shanghai coasters.
By this time I had not been a major attraction that had been built in sometime they had done some refurbishment and some things but they hadn't put in a major massive structure in the park in quite a few years
Unbenounced to everyone they notes to everyone 30 stumbled upon the california building code swimming started this project in realize that they were julie glitch structures that it's were built under previews sarah building codes the new building codes are constantly that to get changing and california never clicks so the foundation in everything had to be built in concrete basically a bunker attraction
In California we have earthquakes and they had to design this structure around the ever-changing building codes which they're constantly changing all the time that's why the structure is so massive it immense it had to be pinned all the way down to bedrock with massive Footers and all of the structural design was based on current building code of the day
I always wondered why only Tokyo Disney had splash and not paris or Shanghai.
Could be due to climate/weather
Splash mountains my favorite ride :I
