There is a difference between boots on the ground Vs "I don't want technology because I am a better man with a gun". This second theory I have heard from uneducated military men all of the last 40 yrs and many are from the bottom of their schools having no understanding of where the World is going. This is the L-1 mentality. Boots on the ground is for holding territory. But Man+gun is not better than Man+technology+gun. I hope you get it.
Very enlightening discussion. The strategic defense issues are often neglected area by democracies and also the public. Indian civilization has paid a heavy price due to it. As we desire to be an ambitious economy we can't afford to be negligent & casual on the strategic national security front, the threats are only going to grow.
There are so many Gaza strips slowly developed throughout Bharat where the local police dare not to enter. Many people have brought this during debates in live shows. But it goes to a deaf ear. If Hamas type attack is tried in in our country is our admin ready to face? Big question is during inauguration of Ram Mandir if any such plan is implemented by the peaceful community how are we prepared to face the situation? I hope no such thing is tried in Bharat.

I agree that defence budget is to be increased but Railway nafri has come down from 13 lac to 10 lac in last 15 years However the Railways have almost doubled the assets in terms of track kilometres in last 15 years Further Railways is an earning department it cannot be compared to Army I am not saying that army expenditure should be cut or reduced , it should be prioritised as per requirements of the nation
I think maybe we need to build a private defence lobby. Though I think it will take more than a decade if India wishes to create companies like Lockheed Martin and General Electric.
We need to spend more on high tech and war infrastructure not on pension and paychecks.....better air force and fighter jets gives a better chance than soldiers on foot that act as cannon fodder
Just Like Temple Money, the Church, WAQF Board and Gurudwara Money should be controlled by Central Govt. Free them and make it mandatory for all religious institutions to contribute 50+% percentage of their money to the Govt treasury for Defence budget. Great Discussion points. Why are we assuming that we are not creating the capability to neutralize non-state actors (directly / indirectly ) like it is currently happening in Pak / Canada ? The official position would be to remain quite and deny such involvement . Other capabilities is being strengthened but this would never be officially discussed . Also in any democracies we have so many loopholes which the non state actors and their supporters take advantage off like asking for information .

Actually ...Self Defence, Alerting Mechanisms, Emergency Care and taking safe passage should be a part of basic school education and drills should be conducted regulaly. Currently we do only for Fire Alarm. There should be Safe Passage, Police Alerting Buzzers & hideouts in Public places with First Aid in case of such emergency.

One more thing Sir...utilize NCC (National Cadet Core). If we make 2 years compulsory NCC in colleges or even senior schools, we can make a good reserve force of entire citizens with a sense of unity and discipline. NCC C certificate tenure should be utilized as Armed forces in any branch. On Govt books..NCC, I'd also known as 2nd line of discipline, which is nothing but reserve force against any eventuality. Secondly, I agree with you Sir, Territorial Army, Navy and Air forces should be more and more employed. This way we can save lot to pension bill.

There are two types of people who join the Armed Forces; 1. who has the passion to join Armed Forces. 2. Those who join Armed Forces just to get a job. This is applicable to both Jawan and Officers. There were only two European Officer in the Army of Ranjit Singh. Similarly in the Maratha Army there were only very few European Officer and they were fired after first Maratha Anglo war. Indian lost the British because they were not United and British used one Indian against community against other one by One. In simple words divide and rule.

Central Police forces are involved in active duty , as BSF is on borders, CRPF is in anti Naxalites ops, ITBP on China borders. Actually they are actually doing the Infantry job, which were outsourced by Army leadership in past. Before 1947 there was only Sena. Col Sahib start considering CAPF part of Army. They are working for Army , they don't get even pension. One rank pension is out of questions for them, they are just on NPS. After ops Prakram Army celebrated when they came back from Borders after 8 to 10 months. However BSF and ITBP is still on borders since 2001-02
Not much discussion on internal security, other than generic statements like moghul-era administration. We shy away from talking about these issues then complain that citizens don't even think about such things or vote on them. If we treat citizens like children then don't expect them to behave like adults taking responsibility for actions and their consequences. Budget is required for development as well as security. Security is not an income generating industry unless it's via arms sales. As far as is visible, Govt is diverting budget to development that will increase the budget tomorrow for enhanced security. Either that or defence exports should increase so much that we can increase budget for security from such sales. This will not happen so fast as we need to make entry into market and slowly build the reputation for increasing sales. There are also many competitors and opponents in the market for this.

After ops Prakram Army celebrated when they came back from Borders after 8 to 10 months. However BSF and ITBP is still on borders since 2001-02

Not much discussion on internal security, other than generic statements like moghul-era administration.
We shy away from talking about these issues then complain that citizens don't even think about such things or vote on them. If we treat citizens like children then don't expect them to behave like adults taking responsibility for actions and their consequences.
Budget is required for development as well as security. Security is not an income generating industry unless it's via arms sales.
As far as is visible, Govt is diverting budget to development that will increase the budget tomorrow for enhanced security. Either that or defence exports should increase so much that we can increase budget for security from such sales. This will not happen so fast as we need to make entry into market and slowly build the reputation for increasing sales. There are also many competitors and opponents in the market for this.
