With one USB-C cable plugged in to a hub mounted behind my desk, it makes it so easy to grab and go when I need to.

Hi Kyle, since putting together your setup, have you had any issues with the Orico docking station? I purchased the same one a year ago for my M2 Macbook Air. It was great for about a year, until it basically stopped working with my peripherals (specifcally a wired mouse and external speakers). I've gotten zero response from Orico email support (multiple attempts). It wasn't cheap, and I'm terribly disappointed with the lack of support. I'm considering purchasing one of the more expensive hubs. Just curious if you or anyone else has had similar issues and if there are suggestions on fixes (if any). Much thanks for this video.

Yes, but only if you want free spin or smart shift mode, not if you want completely ratchet style scrolling. In any case, the scroll functionality is not great to begin with.
Wow what a nice and cozy set-up. I building my Macbook AIR M2 set-up, I also want to use the Clamshell mode, but some people say that can be turn into a overheat issue, since there is no active cooling system. I work mostly with Photoshop and Illustrator, currently running a 32`inch 4k display. Do you think it will be a problem use it in clamshell mode? Thanks!
Hey, so I recently discovered your channel and you convinced me to buy the orico docking station for my apple macbook pro m1 Max. for the monitor, I bought the benq pd2725u display and after a couple of weeks, I started to notice flickering issues. I've contacted benq and have done possibly everything to attempt to resolve the flickering but it hasn't been fixed. So my question for you is, do you have similar issues with the monitor that you use? I'm considering on buying it since your setup is almost like mine and I'm assuming yours works perfectly fine with no flickering issues?
I didnt have any issues at all! I used the Orico dock for 6 months to power my Mac and used the DisplayPort on it for my ultrafine 4K with the provided cable that came with the monitor without any problems. If you’re running the display from your dock, I’d try using the same cable if possible to your Mac and seeing what happens. I know that’s not always the case, but definitely wanna see you resolve your issue properly!
Great advice - I'm a big fan of your reviews. Question though..... The LG monitor in this video, does it have a built in webcam for Teams calls? I can't seem to find out from the Amazon spec. Yours hopefully....

Battery hasn’t been an issue. New macs are very good at knowing when you use them plugged in all the time. My battery capacity on my M1 air is still at 100% after 6 months or being constantly plugged in. No other special settings, just running in clamshell mode.

I was considering the Minisopuru because of its multi-functional nature, but wasn't sure if something more established was out there.
it depends on the speed you want - anything thunderbolt is gonna be more expensive, but if you're willing to drop down to USB 3.2/3.1 prices drop substancially
@@KyleErickson for sure. It would mainly be as a means of consolidation rather than reliant upon read/write speeds. Love the setup very clean and looks great. Gave me some good ideas for myself as i do really love the new midnight version of the M2 air which has made things hard on picking a color. But I know me and I’m very anal about keeping my devices clean and looking new so fingerprints and nicks on the body would drive me nuts, so I’ve been leaning towards the starlight as well. I’ve actually come to really love that color lately and think i might get an ipad mini in the same color and possibly a new Apple Watch and maybe iPhone in the future. But right now I’m too in love with the blue on my iPhone 12. I usually lean towards the space gray and darker colors so we’ll see. I have a space gray Apple Watch and iPad 9, along with my blue iPhone with blue case and AirPods Pro with a matching blue case and matching blue silicone case on my watch as well….anyways great video. Can’t wait for the next one!
@@KyleErickson I wanna go for that config for MBA M2 however, the price is nearly the same as the MBP M1 14". I am still undecided which one to get honestly.
@@iamBede the price sits right in the middle $300 more than a comparable M1 Air with similar specs and $300 less than the M1 Pro I believe. All depends on what you value and what you need. I love the portability of the M2 air, and just everyday use I don't feel like I notice much difference from my 16-inch MBP M1 pro to be honest. Again, all depends what you are using it for and what you value.
@@KyleErickson If I order the 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD configuration on Apple’s website, it would cost me around $1,700 but if I go for the MBP 14”, I can get it for around $1,900 from a legitimate seller. I’m not really a power user but I will be using the device for a very long time. I would also like to make sure that what I will be getting between the two has a better value long term. But you’re right, it depends on how will I use it and what I value.
Hi, I want to buy a macbook but not sure if m2 air would be good enough for me or i should go with m2 pro since m2 air doesnt have a cooling fan. I want to use the macbook as my primary device and i want to use it for whole day. I mainly do web and mobile app development. What is yiur though about this? Which one should i get? Thanks in advance.
Hey friend, do you think the base model of m2 macbook air would be enough for coding or should I upgrade the ram to 16gb. I’m an IT student and I do some tensorflow or pytorch python codes. And the second question is, is it better to upgrade the ram or ssd, due to its slower ssd on the base model? But something that bothers me is the price of MacBook air m2 with 16gb of ram and 512gb of ssd, I could buy a m1 air base model + an iPad air m1 for that pricing. Which one should I go with? The upgraded m2 air Or base model of macbook air + an iPad air.
Imo, if you are getting the base model, go with the m1 air (and use the extra money for a display, iPad, or other accessories). If you want more power, the 14in m1 pro has been on sale for a while (just dropped to 1599 at a lot of places, but may be mostly sold out now). Base m1 air should be fine for most development.
Hi Kyle, Since you have a 4k monitor and you are scaling it to 1440p anyway, wasn't it better to buy a native 1440p monitor? For my MBP, I am considering buying one: LG Ergo 27QN880-B - 27" 2560 x 1440 75Hz - 110ppi LG Ergo 27UN880-B - 27" 3840 x 2160 60Hz - 163 ppi I wonder if it's worth paying extra for a 4k monitor since I'll have to scale to 1440p anyway? Unless then there will be a higher ppi due to the physically different resolution of the monitor -> making the image perceptibly smoother despite scaling? Am I thinking correctly?
A native 1440p resolution will have a much lower pixel density regardless of the scaling. Scaling just makes things appear to more of a natural size, you'll still have all the benefits of the 4K resolution with a 2160p monitor.
@@KyleErickson The ORICO Thunderbolt 3 Dock - I see all the other info on the Amazon link, which looks great, but I don't see any specs regarding the SD card reader. Was just wondering about card-read speeds.

@@KyleErickson right but when I come back to use it the next day I can't wake it without opening the laptop and closing it again. Anything I can do to fix that? I would like to just let it sleep then come back and touch the keyboard or mouse to wake it but as of now that's not working. Thanks man
I was thinking of ordering a gimbal for my A7IV but if you’re doing this handle I might just get a cage instead and save money. What are your thoughts, gimbal not necessarily?

But right now I’m too in love with the blue on my iPhone 12. I usually lean towards the space gray and darker colors so we’ll see. I have a space gray Apple Watch and iPad 9, along with my blue iPhone with blue case and AirPods Pro with a matching blue case and matching blue silicone case on my watch as well….anyways great video. Can’t wait for the next one!
hi mate , what cable do you use for connect your monitor to mac? i have a xiaomi curve 34" and have problem for connecting to my mac
How much does speakers cost
How do you call that metal plateia standing on the wall that holds things? Where i can buy?
Do you mean the pegboard? It's from Ikea!
Did you go for the 24GB RAM ? thank you for your videos
I just went for 16
Gravity locking :)))))
Can anybody help me figure out how to control the volume of the monitor using the keyboard? I don’t have external speakers. My monitor has speakers.
What configuration do you have for your MBA? How much RAM and SSD?
16GB RAM / 512 GB SSD
Wallpaper?
It is my table and setup i have given it to him on lease
My bro- Aukat bui hae 🤣🤣
what about the light on top of your monitor?
It’s in the description!
I wouldn't worry about the fan - mine rarely ever warms up. This should be totally fine for web and mobile development.
The upgraded m2 air
Or base model of macbook air + an iPad air.
Hi Kyle,
Since you have a 4k monitor and you are scaling it to 1440p anyway, wasn't it better to buy a native 1440p monitor?
For my MBP, I am considering buying one:
LG Ergo 27QN880-B - 27" 2560 x 1440 75Hz - 110ppi
LG Ergo 27UN880-B - 27" 3840 x 2160 60Hz - 163 ppi
I wonder if it's worth paying extra for a 4k monitor since I'll have to scale to 1440p anyway? Unless then there will be a higher ppi due to the physically different resolution of the monitor -> making the image perceptibly smoother despite scaling? Am I thinking correctly?
A native 1440p resolution will have a much lower pixel density regardless of the scaling. Scaling just makes things appear to more of a natural size, you'll still have all the benefits of the 4K resolution with a 2160p monitor.
@@KyleErickson Ok, I understand, so it will just be better ppi on a 4K monitor due to the physical resolution of the monitor
Regarding the hub, what's the card reader speed - that is, is it UHS-II?
Which one?
@@KyleErickson The ORICO Thunderbolt 3 Dock - I see all the other info on the Amazon link, which looks great, but I don't see any specs regarding the SD card reader. Was just wondering about card-read speeds.
How do you turn your computer on to start a session when using clamshell mode? I find myself having to either open the MacBook to turn it on or having to unplug and plug back in the power and/or monitor wire. Obviously can shut it down from the screen but how do you power up?
I don’t turn mine off, it just goes into sleep mode when I’m not using it
@@KyleErickson right but when I come back to use it the next day I can't wake it without opening the laptop and closing it again. Anything I can do to fix that? I would like to just let it sleep then come back and touch the keyboard or mouse to wake it but as of now that's not working. Thanks man
I
Ike your wallpapers. Pls share
No
so how you turn on and off your Macbook?
Yeah same question
Do you use a gimbal to get your b roll shots?
Rarely! Mostly handheld and on a tripod
I was thinking of ordering a gimbal for my A7IV but if you’re doing this handle I might just get a cage instead and save money. What are your thoughts, gimbal not necessarily?
everybody asking about the wallpaper im curious about a desk link….
does mac also support dual monitor?
No - only the MacBook Pro supports this.
How do you use the m2 air in clamshell mode?
Plug into power and a monitor, close it up, and it should pop into clamshell mode automatically
@@KyleErickson Hi Kyle, so how do you turn the MacBook on? Everytime you want to use it you need to take it out of the dock and open it?
Wow, you code

Don't tell me, you are going to change your M2 macbook when the M3 launches because you will notice it will outperform your very old M2 apple machine.
Sop being so consumerist, stop doing this kind of bullshit.
Hey sir, thanks for the advice! Your engagement helps drive the success of videos like this and will help me make more content, keep your eyes peeled for more Apple stuff 😍
I use a plate stand for mine lol. You know, the stands for decorative plates 😂
Super nice setup - and very down-to-earth yet professional videos. Certainly enjoying your channel. Keep up the great work! 👏
Thanks for video. Pro Tip: for guys like me who always wanted to do this setup but didn’t know the practicalities (connections, sleep settings, power settings, mouse blue tooth vs wired connections, mouse and connector compatibility etc) You would have gotten 3x views if you had quickly spliced in how to make the actual connections and settings. Until recently I was under the impression that once you closed a MacBook, it went to sleep, or blacked out all monitors etc etc. after watching this video, I can INFER some things, but it would have been better if this was a practical guide step by step video. 👍
Technology Connections has 1.2M views in such a video. that about $12,000 in yt revenue
Do you own research like everyone else 😂 or make your own 3x more views video. No brainer brotha.
Why all the rages for clamp shell mode for every desktop setup RUclipsr? I find the laptop screen very useful in conjunction with a 4K screen.
