    All advice given is done so in good faith as general advice.
    You should always seek a range of advice on career matters and neither Anthony Llewellyn nor AdvanceMed will be held responsible for any individual outcomes.
    Career Doctor/s talks about a range of career challenges for medical students and doctors
    Difficult Bosses specifically talks about a dirty little secret in Medicine. Doctors are often subpar managers. We struggle to support the needs of workers around us and deal with bad things like bullies in Medicine. This channel hopes to correct that by sharing stories about both good and bad bosses in Medicine as well as advice for both trainees and the bosses.
    correction: 0:54 since making this video I have not seen a lot of posts advertised as Area of Need for very many specialties. If you are a specialist IMG wanting to work in Australia I would not spend too much time looking for AoN posts as they rarely exist these days.

    Interview options are either face-to-face in Sydney, Australia or via video conference depending on availability of a suitable site in your country

      All colleges differ so may offer an in person in Brisbane or Melbourne etc... it’s not an unusual now for candidates to turn up in person to find that a panel member is videoing in!

    Thank you for video. I wanted to asked in process of SIMG , applicant can apply for area of need and specialist. Area of need , any interview after preliminary assessment ? SIMG Specialist pathway leads to comparable or non comparable - depends on that it leads to fellowship. But if interview and comparable then applicant will go directly for Job. If non-comparable , is he able to apply for area of need ?

    • @CareerDoctor
      @CareerDoctor  2 года назад

      Sorry your question is quite confusing.
      If you are found not comparable then you won’t be able to apply for a specialist Area of Need Post.

    • @aarav3836
      @aarav3836 2 года назад

      Thank you for reply . Area of need application fees 2310 AUD and specialist application fees 850 AUD. Process is same as I understand both have to under go interview - on basis of interview will get outcome comparable or no comparable. My question is Why this area of need have high fees for application ? Is there high possibility get comparable if apply in area of need. Moreover , it’s near to impossible get job without comparability, What’s your advise ?

    • @CareerDoctor
      @CareerDoctor  2 года назад

      1. Area of Need is a rarity these days.
      2. It’s a similar assessment process. Same standards.
      3. For Area of Need they are also assessing the post.

    I'm also a little confused about who actually has to do the PESCI. I believed all AON IMG's GP's have to follow the Specialist Pathway. Therefore, does that mean (as long as the meet the 3 year GP work experience requirement) that the DONT have to sit for the PESCI??

    • @CareerDoctor
      @CareerDoctor  11 месяцев назад

      The requirements for who needs to do a PESCI are a bit confusing. If you are eligible for the GP version of the Specialist Pathway then you generally do not need to do a PESCI. The PESCI is normally if you have the AMC Part 1, GP experience and are applying to work under supervision in general practice (but not eligible for the Specialist Pathway).

      It is very difficult to put a timeframe around this as there are certain steps where there can be a delay on your side or on the college side or employer side etc... In generally I tend to advise my clients it will take at least 12 months from the time they decide to apply. But could be longer.

    There are some questions:
    1) is this the preferred path if you want to start working immediately in your specialty?
    2) what will be the result at the end of this path? Will I get a permanent specialist license?
    Thank you for your attention

      No. It's because these AON posts are not real positions. Noone is actually recruiting to them. I would not bother with AoN. Just focus on the Specialist Pathway. Bear in mind that there's a 2:1 ratio of comparable SIMG radiologists to available posts at present.

      AoN is like a unicorn these days. Generally there are good options via the plain specialist pathway for paediatrics.

    Hi
    I found your videos very useful, and very well explained, thank you for that.
    My doubt is, if I want to apply for an area of need job as an specialist IMG, what is the first step? Do the specialist pathway first ? Or Get the job interview first and then the AON pathway ? Or both at the same time ? Thanks …

    • @CareerDoctor
      @CareerDoctor  3 года назад

      Area of Need jobs are very rare these days. I would not be searching for them.

    Hello sir, your video was very informative, I have a query about the duration of AoN, how long I can work under AoN and also will AoN be counted as an experience, if I apply for specialist pathway later on??
    Thanks
    Regards

    • @CareerDoctor
      @CareerDoctor  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Sarvjit you are generally working under AoN whilst working through the specialist pathway. The normal duration of these positions is around 4 years with the expectation that you should have finished all the requirements to complete specialist registration in that time.

      Hi Jenny 6 years of training is quite long so should be ok for at least partial comparable

    Hi.. I have been really very much benifited by all your videos about specialist pathway. It is highly informative. Thank you.
    I am an MS, ophthalmologist from India, with a added 2 yr fellowship in subspecialty of surgical retina. Looking forward to do research papers.
    After I apply for assessment, how are my chances of getting into my subspecialty in which I am trained.. will I be considered for my primary qualifications only?
    You have covered almost all points on AON pathway. Just wanted to know if my period of supervision be reduced comparitively when I go through AON specialist pathway...and make things bit easier... 🙂

    • @CareerDoctor
      @CareerDoctor  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks Aarthy. Area of Need does not really affect how long you will be supervised. It comes down to whether college sees you as partially or substantially comparable.

      Hi Jagdish congrats on the first comment on my video this morning. From your description are you telling me that you are trained in India? If you have an MD in surgery then you are possibly able to apply for the specialist pathway. I recommend you watch the other videos in the series. :)
