  • Some people say if it can go wrong, it will. I say if it can go wrong you can find beauty in it, and learn something along the way! Acrylic pour painting has become my passion, and a way to practice mindfulness, forgiveness, and optimism. For me, painting has become a physical expression of prayer and gratitude; a way for me to be the "me" God created me to be.
Join me as I create a split composition dutch pour painting, and learn 3 common dutch pour painting mistakes, even the pros make.

I think we are our worst critics. My daughter told me once:"Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean someone else will love it!" That kind of stuck with me and I'm not as quick to scrape it. Anyway... this painting is gorgeous, love the colors. And thanks for sharing your "mistakes" with us😊

It's gorgeous! The area you see as imperfect is not at all wrong. I love the imperfect curve. It's actually more interesting and engaging than a beautifully graceful line. The gold is just enough in the best place.ovrrall it strikes me as dynamic, passionate. Leading somewhere unknown but with anticipation.

I can so relate - I tend to over fiddle also and end up making the results less great than it had been. But it's hard to sometimes know where that line is. Sometimes doing something a bit more does make a good difference. But I have really regretted doing "more" quite often. I'm not sure if I regret it more times than not, but I do think I'm getting better at holding back when something is really nice as it is even though I might have some vision in my head of how it could be better....if only the paint will do exactly as I want. LOL. Anyway - this piece did turn out incredibly gorgeous. 😀🥰

I tried my first pour painting. I really liked it immediately after pouring. After drying its not the same. I used White Glue, silicon oil, acrylic paints and water by looking at some video. After drying there are lot of spots where white canvas was seen and the pattern of circles went away. Can someone help why it happend ?

    • @beccaharkinsart

I have heard that if you use silicone oil in the base paint it can cause the acrylic paint to pull away from the canvas and allow the canvas to show through.

Yes, I can help. It is the cheap acrylics that make it crack. If you invest in better acrylic paints you will find success and no cracking. You do not need pouring medium but it helps move the paint. You can send me a pic on Facebook messenger if you like. Look for Becca Harkins Art on Facebook or Instagram.

I guess my question would be, what what look are you going for? Different looks usually require a different recipe or consistency to get the certain effects.
