Ayer Pau ganó el premio de “Best Rock Drummer 2023”, mejor baterista del año 2023, en Drumeo! La mejor versión de esta canción es del concierto en el Teatro Metropolitan. Su maestro, Beto Ramos, toca la batería y ella canta en el frente. La ironía es que los críticos le llamaban “malinchista” (por no cantar en Español), una palabra que viene del nombre de la Malinche, mujer indigena que fue la novia del conquistador Hernán Cortés. Pero Español es la lengua de los conquistadores.

Gabo...malinchista viene de Malinche. Malinche/Malintzin era una princesa Nahua de la Costa del Golfo de México, Se unió al grupo de Hernán Cortés a su paso por la costa del Golfo, como intérprete y luego como amante. Cortés y la Malintzin procrearon a Martín Cortéz, símbolo del mestizaje mexicano.

Great analysis as always. No, this song is not super complicated from an instrumental point of view. But the point of this song is to yell a huge F.U. to the haters who call them malanchistas. And they do that brilliantly with this song.
I continue to be amazed at how they can construct good single songs, and a comprehensive album with those songs. I like your comment about them doing both albums and individual songs well.

My thoughts below. Would love feedback from others - specially from Mexican fans.
"Some of their compatriots are annoyed by the fact that the girls are singing in language of the "gringoes" allegedly to widen their fanbase. Their international recognition ruffled a few feathers in Mexico.
So The Warning had to fight against a "list" of prejudices borne out of ethno-socio-economic factors
- being the wrong gender in rock
- being children when they started
- being "white Mexicans"
- being born rich
- being "regiomontanas" or from Monterrey in the mountainous region in North-East of Mexico
- singing in English"

How many 16 year olds have the guts to stand up to her critics & tell them to shut up instead of cowering away? Fed up with constant barrage from a section of the Mexican press about why they only sing in English, Pau wrote this acerbic riposte. The girls then presented the 1st draft to their mom for grammatical check in Spanish. Legend has it that Mony asked them to tone down the vitriol as she was afraid of the backlash her daughters might receive.
However you can see the viciousness in Pau's presentation when The Warning debuted Narcisista at Foro in 2019 - aged 19, 17 & 14.

Cherry on the cake is when she rubs it in with "No soy loca ni Malinchista" or Neither am I mad nor Malinchista. Malinche was an Aztec (Nahua) woman who helped the Spanish conquerors in taking control of Mexico some 5 centuries back. Hence the term Malinchista for a woman who prefers foreign people, culture, goods, etc. over her own roots. A cultural turncoat if you like.
Ahh...the delicious irony of time when on 16th June 2023 some 500 Spaniards joined Pau & her sisters to sing Narcisista and exactly those words for the 1st time in Madrid.
The conquered have become the conqueror now.
