Why The New Tissot Heritage 1938 Salmon Is The New Value King: One Week Review

  • Tissot has been releasing incredible new watches over the past few years starting with the ever popular Tissot PRX and the subsequent chronograph and 35mm versions of the original. However, Tissot’s heritage stretches much past the PRX and they have recently released the new Heritage 1938 in three dial colors the best one being the Salmon dial.
    Salmon dials have been very popular with the likes of Patek Philippe, and to pair a classic dial color with a case with classic proportions ,like the 1938, it’s a win. That said Tissot went further by making the watch a COSC certified chronometer guaranteeing accuracy of +6/-4 seconds per day. The kicker here is that all this is offered for the incredible price of $825. So is this the new value king?
    In this video, I’m going to answer that question by getting into the details of the watch, how it wears on the wrist, that salmon dial, and that chronometer movement. And finally I’ll get into more details about why i bought this watch in the first place as a full on dive watch guy.

    Another top video TWI. I'm quite a fan of Tissot watches, good, honest and reliable Swiss watches at a value price. This 1938 has flown so far under my radar it must have sat within the Earths mantle. It's certainly one that I'll consider in the future. I have to agree with the no date and the raised numerals add that extra interest in the dial. As you mention there are more details to the dial that initially come into view. The use of a COSC ETA2824 would also be my preferred movement. My brain says I have enough time only watches but my heart wants to see one in the flesh. Today on my wrist is my old crazy slim Nomos Luwig 36 small seconds that I've not worn for a few weeks (I had a G-Shock few days) that I find myself just looking at and then having to look at it again as I forgot to read the time, it wears more like a 39. Keep up the great work.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks as always! Tissot and the value they consistently offer are great no doubt and I'm surprised that not many people are talking about this watch! This flew well under the radar for me as well i only saw 1 article about this watch but I'm glad I saw it!
      Yeah buying an extraawatch thats not needed is always a conundrum but it being a salmon dial and a cosc certified movement should hopefully make things easier lol! The Ludwig is an awesome watch, I used to have the 38mm Tangente back in the day so I agree that they always wore much bigger than the numbers would suggest! I wonder if they'd ever do a diver?

    I can totally see why you got it. Never paid any attention to this watch until I was in store to check out the new gold PVD PRX, noticed both colour ways, asked to have a look at it and WOW! I shouldn’t wanna buy this watch as I feel it has a few very notable things I’d love to change - size, from 39mm to 38 ou even 37mm, and that annoyingly oversized “chronometer” text (not so sure about the font either) but… live, in person just feel like it’s such a sweet spot watch, I just love that very fine brushing on the case and that crown is the only onion crown I actually like. There’s just a refinement that’s surprising for a watch at this price, and COSC certified at that! Both colour ways are great but I’m inclined to go for the dark one…

    I guess the only cosc certified chronometer movement only happened with the standard version of the 2824, but they could've just replaced the setting lever jumper to two positions jumper and the part just cost like 12usd to do so to each one, I hope this would be addressed in the future by Tissot 😅.

    If only it was 100m man! Mind you I say this out of my lifestyle, the watch itself is just pure class! Plus I’m quite impressed people’s quite selective attention to Tissot, they’re killing it in the more “traditional” sector, not only the PRX

Of course, there was a separate negative prejudice towards the Tissot brand. He also has a contribution to this work. Purchased this watch a few weeks ago. In my case with the "anthracite" dial rather than the "salcon" model. Frankly, I was surprised that Tissot, a brand I have often dismissed as a "mall" watch and one known for the integrated PRX collection, would produce such a vintage design, much less a COSC certified chronometer. Yet there it was. and at an astonishing price to boot.
    My experience has been almost totally positive. As expected, it keeps excellent time, losing less than 2s a day on average. I would appreciate some minimal lume in the evening. But that would be out of keeping with its vintage vibe. And during the day or under artificial light it can be read at a glance. The stock brown leather strap in a pebble grain is attractive and flexible, but I felt that a smooth brown leather strap from Hirsch is more appropriate for the look of a watch from the 1930's. It's not a copy of a watch from that period, of course. If it were it would be considerably smaller than its 39mm diameter. But that's OK. It admirably reflects the spirit and feel of a watch that's been sitting in a drawer for 80 plus years . In short, I love it.

      Why do you need a date function? Especially if it's a watch that's not going to be worn everyday. If I want to know the date, I can just look at my phone or computer screen. I don't need to be reminded of the date more than once a day.

    • @eyeheartsushi2212
      @eyeheartsushi2212 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@nerychristianI agree. The primary function of the watch is to tell the time, not the date. And like you wrote, if you have more than one automatic watch then you’ll find yourself having to set the date more frequently than one would care for. Date complications are for one-watch wearers.

    • @nerychristian
      @nerychristian 7 месяцев назад

      @@eyeheartsushi2212 I don't mind a date function, as long as it fits the style of the watch. Something like a chronometer or tool watch or digital watch. But I hate it when they put a date window on dress watches. Sometimes it seems like they just add a date window because the manufacturer is using a movement that has a date function, so they have to make an opening in the dial for it.

    Can you make your content inclusive by formatting the auto captioning into closed captioning please? it is extremely hard to watch it relying only on the auto captioning sadly (I'm Profoundly Deaf)

    I was about to love it, until I see the watch isn't using PM80 (they have PM80 COSC too), that in yo face CHRONOMETER (like, just shrink it ffs), and that yellow side of the hands set (brass hands, only painted black on top, not being coated black completely or pvd black even). Then yeah, the ghost date, like cmon...

      I’m with you on the ghost date. Probably forced to use a surplus of ETA movements the Swatch Group needs to move.

    825 for a ghost date watch?

      Ghost date isn't ideal but I'm basically never going to need to use the crown since there's no date so I'm not too fussed about it. In the end I'm much happier that it's cosc certified

      Ghost date is totally unacceptable in my opinion. Tissot is a part of Swatch, so has full access to their array of movements. First with the PRX they cheaped out and used a nylon plastic escapement, now they cheap out on this and keep a ghost date...

      @@HRM.HIt is less about "cheapen out" and more about "what do our customers really care about". The Swatch Group Brands Pyramide is good and bad for the brands since it is relatively clear where they are positioned but it also makes it hard to produce what is truly the best. The typical Tissot buyer simply does not care about having plastic escapements or ghost positions but they do care about design and case finishing.

      @@540058 Let's face it: We are talking about minor things that nobody will really notice. Does it run accurately? Sure. Does it last 10 years? Probably. Does it look good? Yes. Does it have the "sweep like Rolex" (this is actually what a lot of "non-watch people" will say)? Yes.
