I had a silver burst Starcaster made in the same time frame as yours. The neck was terrible. Thankfully, I got it for a great price used, with a bunch of extras, from a local kid who gave up playing. I replaced everything but the body. Made it my hot rail caster. With a Mighty Mite RW neck. It’s a good player.
I have a Silver burst 07 Starcaster too exactly like yours. It even has the same little marking in the volume/tone cavity! I'm doing a single PAF prewired pickguard from Guitar Fetish. I'm worried about it being noisy.
You will always get more for genuine Fender parts than off brand. Try to sell one even with a Warnoth or other quality replacement vs using a MIM neck. About the same cost but the MIM will hold more value.
They are close enough that I would choose the alder/ash just because of the durability factor. Also, being that you wouldn't call a squier a fender, I certainly wouldn't call a starcaster a fender.
I have had several XGP bodies. Their paint jobs are crap. Good luck on a Tele body even putting ferules in. If you look at the paint wrong it flakes off in quarter sized chunks. I have had 3 that did that. I finally gave up on those bodies..
I lost it with guitar fetish when they sent me a strat neck after I ordered a tele. They asked for pictures for "clarification." Then they sent me a strat neck that looked like someone had beaten the fingerboard with a hammer, and then slopped some grain filler on it.
You are correct some were for sure. They used agathis and basswood almost exclusively as they are inexpensive to source as well as easy on machinery and tools. The silverburst strats have all been basswood so far.
I have a silver burst Starcaster Strat body. It is heavy. If all silver burst Starcasters are made of basswood, then this body is made from extra dense basswood.

I know the body isn't the most important thing as long as everything is routed correctly, but the Starcaster is he cheapest thing Fender makes.

That's really whacked, but understandable, even though Warmoth bodies are probably better than original with more options .
There is never an "INCREASED" value in a parts caster.

I built a tele with a GFS neck and body. I have had no finish issues at all, and the ferrules went in as they were supposed to.
I know it has been a year since your post but do you remember if the routing was correct. Did the neck fit properly?
I believe the star caster bodies were Agathis iirc.
