Portland resident here. If Sabonis had come to the Blazers in 86, MJ and the Bad Boys would have less Finals rings. Even in his decrepit condition, you could tell how sick of player he was. I remember watching an interview with him where the reporter asked Sabas who was the player he patterned his game around, and he answered Magic Johnson. It's a tragedy that the NBA didn't see peak Sabonis. It would have accelerated the evolution of the game.

You're correct! He was that good. Just like when you guys had that other center who's career was shortened due to injury. You guys got screwed out of at least 3 more titles. Bill Waltons blazers would have probably won one or two more and the late 80's blazers would have won at least one maybe two as the showtime Lakers would have aged out as your team hit its prime. (edit) OLD Kareem gave the 80's Celtics problems so Sabonis would have just obliterated them. Went back and looked at your roster you already had most of your team that would be the backbone of those great blazer teams. They would have been scary good with Sabonis.

@cheetahturner4576 sheed was given a BS tech in game 6. Go back and watch. 1 more and he's suspended. So refs took Sheed out the game.
Sabonis was called for 2 fouls in the 1st quarter. He did what he was doing the entire series and all of a sudden it was a problem. So refs took him out the game.
Kobe elbowed multiple Blazers during his drives. He never got called. David Stern was not about to let the Jail Blazers win a chip as the east was wack and the west winner would take the title.
AND...Tim Donaghy said that that game 7 was for sure rigged.. FOR SURE! what else you need to hear pumpkin??

Listen all the americans and others. Maybe Sabonis knees werent the strongest or the best, but the main problem, why he was playing almost with one leg after 1988, that he broke off his achilles two times in a row of the same leg!!! Thats the main tragedy of his career!! And he didnt play basketball 1,5 years at all, and returned straight to olympics in 1988 and helped to win gold medals for Soviet Union, beating Usa in semifinals, battling with great admiral D. Robinson as equals!

The Dream Team was born because of Sabonis. Thus, we can say that the NBA went global because of Sabonis.
There should be a rule that 1% of all the contracts related to the NBA (TVs, Sponsors, players, etc...) should be wired straight to Sabonis's bank account.

Sabas was the first big man who had so much skill. Ahead of his time. Too bad by the time he played in the NBA his body had deteriorated. Maybe with modern sports medicine he would've had a better career nowadays. Then again there's way more big skilled guys nowadays.
