Not to mention the fact that you can still gain lots of strength by training for hypertrophy but the strength gains aren't as much but it's still worth it because it's risk free
@Genti Xhanari Nearly everyone throws shade in the fitness industry. Be it bodybuilders, power lifters or even crossfitters. Everyone wants to feel superior if they want to admit it or not. So when someone mocks their choosen lifestyle they get salty. It's really no big deal tho if you're happy with yourself. I'm into bodybuilding myself. I'm a pretty big fella by average standards, but I'm pretty weak because I don't focus on being strong. I've had wanna be powerlifters ask me why be this big if you're gonna be so weak. I ask them why workout so much if you're still embarrassed to take your shirt off 🤷♂️ It's just human nature, You gotta be happy with you and ignore everything else.
@Genti Xhanari you’re completely missing the point. Bodybuilders refer to it as purely bragging rights because that’s literally all it benefits them to do it. You get better hypertrophy from doing reps so there’s literally no other reason for them to do it. He’s clearly not saying anyone who does 1rm’s are doing it for bragging rights, if you’re goal is strength and to lift as much weight as possible, of course you would do it for more than that. Don’t be so anal
@Genti Xhanari maybe that bodybuilder is weak. Lol. Anyway, maybe before people has this tribal mentality, but nowadays, i feel like people respect goals more and not necessarily want to one up. Its exponentially easier now to see how hard others from different disciplines work, and how amazing their work are.
Well his reasoning is for injury prevention. But if we’re going to be honest singles are not very hypertrophic. I’d rather do submaximal volume than just heavy singles
I agree, as someone who blew his stomach out deadlifting, the risk for 1 rep max is not worth it, I 1 rep maxed 480lbs dead list, 2 surgeries later I still cant deadlift.
Some insightful advice by cbum. The biggest risk for high rep vs low rep is if you’re doing more than 12 reps, you can get mentally fatigued easier or lose concentration. Low reps you risk compensating your body and injuring to move the weight.
I love that almost everyone in the fitness industry has an opinion on squat bench or deadlift being a dangerous lift to either perform or max. Yet the amount of people who think any given lift is too dangerous seems to be about equal to the others.
If you’re competing in weightlifting/powerlifting or trying to program for strength you need to know your 1 rep max… but once you’re done competing or not tryin to be as strong as possible and just healthy, there is no point because you can get hurt. I say this as someone who’s competed. Only do it if you are genuinely competing or trying to legit get stronger

I used to mainly do strength training but since I wanted to get a bit bigger I tried to eat more and do a little more hypertrophy, tho I did lose a bit of strength over the months, I atleast look strong now...I freaking look the part. Um yeah I totally agree tho, doing 1 rep maxes are a bit...a waste of time but if u wanna build strength I would recommend it because that's how I learned proper form quickly and got strong quickly too but that's just me. Like I don't want to be super huge but ever since I started working out I just wanted to be strong so I can defend myself and protect my loved ones.
Yeah crazy PR's will mess you up. Specially if you are young or starting. Joints, tendon connections, bones aren't adapted to this kind of stress. Even when your muscle gets bigger you have to account that the rest of your body needs to follow and get stronger. Just test your comfortable weight and rep it to failure, progress higher over time. It's safer and better.
