- El Farolito's magical Open Cup run came to an end with a 2-1 loss to hosts Oakland Roots in Round 3 of the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Hate to see them go. The better side by far but unlucky in the finish. Hopefully they build on this experience and return next year and have a deeper run. Godspeed in their NPSL campaign. Gracias El Faro!
Oof. I love both the Roots and El Farolito so I was going to be sad no matter how this game ended. Thanks for the memories, Burrito Boys. I'll be (attempting to) follow your NPSL campaign. You've got a big new fan from NYC! Next year, you'll make 'em shake in their boots!
El Farolito played their hearts out and frankly were the more put together and composed of the two teams. The red early in the 2nd half killed them. Ried should have been sent off earlier in extra time (before the winning goal) when he tripped a Farolito player off the ball and the ref didn't see it.
I love the name El Farolito.

el farolito was pretty obviously the better team. embarassing for the roots that it was this close and required a red card + extra time
Maybe it was embarrassing performance by the Roots, but the Roots did give several youngsters a debut (started five players from project 510 - reserved team) Lot of work to do certainly.
Bro that ref was absolutely atrocious man! I get it if the Roots played better, but FAROLITO dominated most of the match until the Ref stepped in and gave a helping hand.
When Roots were down, he gave 8 minutes of injury time....then 7 more at end of the game when it was tied.
When Roots went up and the game was about to finish, he only gave 2 minutes!!!!

I like the young kids that played for Roots man. Lots of talent and heart in those youngsters.
Minor correction the 4th official decides the stoppage amount. Not the ref.
