Love that all 3 MLSNP clubs lost to Amateur/Semi-Pro clubs ⚽️! The magic of the US Open Cup!

The little men prevailing over big money clubs. That’s what is so great about this Open format. England sure love their F.A. Cup for the same exact reason

It’s absolutely glorious. Thinking MLSNEXT as third division is a joke, they should have kept the kids playing at a much higher level in USL. Now that MLS wanted to put some MLSNEXT teams in this tournament, they are rightly getting wrecked.

Its been 20 years since I trained with this team I was a goalkeeper for Mexicali born and raised in SF and trained from 4-17 by my Coach Arturo Tafolla who use to play for El Farolito this team has always been great. My Dad cousin Salvador Peres played for Farolito too my friend Renan Pineda and Hugo Perez JR. Congratulations on the win!!!

Is el Farolito really owned by a local restaurant?

And El Farolito itself is pretty great. I used to go a lot when I first moved here decades ago and when I lived nearer the area. I lived literally across the city for the past 15 years so haven't gone nearly as much but hit it up if you're ever in town!

You must've been off the grid, but I can catch you up to speed. They sent their U21 squad, because back in January MLS decided it thinks it's too good for this competition and tried to ditch it, claimed they were doing so because of "schedule congestion", US Soccer called bs said they're not allowed to do that(I'd argue should've gone further than just saying "no"), eventually they came to a "compromise" where MLS would allow "some" of their clubs to play in the Competition while "some" of the clubs who weren't "selected" would be "replaced" with their U21/MLS Next Pro team(basically what MLS tried to bait and switch with in the first place), while some of the other MLS clubs would have zero representation in the tournament(including Inter Miami and Messi, which btw would kind of give you a hint as to why MLS tried to pull all their clubs out in the first place).
That's more or less the cliffs notes version of why Timbers "sent" their U21 squad to get beat by a Mexican Restaurant owned amateur team.

I'm just taking a piss out of MLS's smart decision to opt out of the open cup.

If inter Miami won it last year Instead of Houston. I bet you MLS would be meat riding the open cup as an important competition on par with the leagues cup

Can they start selling El Farolito jerseys so we new fans can rep?
EDIT: I love how after the first goal, you can see the coach telling them to get back on the field and keep playing cuz the game's not over yet (at least that's what it looks like), but after the SECOND goal, THEN he celebrates with everyone.
