This is why so many people have trouble firing boots and shoes even after taking proper measurement. You noted a difference in foot volume by taking circumference. Then guessed by building up compared to a 2 dimensional tracing. Then checked volume again. Even if the circumference is the same there is no guarantee it's the same 3 dimensional shape. True leather will stretch, and if your foot were applying equal force in all direction that would work, but it's not. For people with a large profile around the ball but normal to narrow instead and heel this leads to bunions, hallux rigidus, and Morton's neuromas.
This is good to know. I was told my feet are two different sizes, so I just need to buy the lasts for the smaller foot, and build up the other. I have wide feet, so is it better to buy a last for wide feet, or build up a regular size last?
This depends on how wide your feet are - if they're just slightly wider than a regular sized last, I'd recommend buying a regular last and building it up. If your foot is significantly wider then I would recommend buying a wider last 🌟 You can browse our lasts here: www.icanmakeshoes.com/collections/all-products?filter.p.product_type=Lasts
@@ICANMAKESHOES If I wanted to make Mary Jane shoes what kind of last should I look for? Many of the lasts I seen do not seem to have the right toe shape.
Sorry for the delayed reply! It can do but you can also make your insoles and soles from scratch using texon board (for the insole) and resin soling (for the soles)
Only yesterday I was shopping for mock alligator leather; when I found the perfectly moulded hide from Italy, a barrage of Chinese companies tried to push a 30x30cm square of it for £20, when the quality hide was £41 for 6sq (still expensive, but the nicest embossing I could find on the internet for less than Double the cost for the same size). I did consider purchasing a genuine alligator pelt at around £160-£200 from Thailand, but I had a feeling it would be seized by customs as an illegal import.
I've been interested in making my own shoes because I have wide feet and it's difficult to find the styles I want. So this video was super helpful.
I'm really grateful, I found it very helpful

Hello, I am Rachid from Morocco. I have 18 years of experience dealing with Shoelast. I am looking for factories that need a workforce in this field.
Does this make finding insoles/outer soles/shoe components etc harder?

No it makes peeling potatoes actually look funny.
