Those lines, coupled with the fact he was the one who rebuilt Zero, plus the Black Zero Sigma tries to use against you if you gathered all of his parts, are what sells the idea that Dr. Willy's will still remains in the X timeline.
I always found that concept weird sense Serges Goes out pretty early in the series and is never really mentioned again he's not even that prominent among the three robots he doesn't seem to be their leader then again honestly I felt like the X series lost a lot of the appeal of its story when it started to word tie everything back to dr Wily Can only go so far when it becomes obsessed with the past Instead of current events or the future events And it retroactively changes Sigma as a villain As now he's basically just unlucky instead of a actual villain plus with the X series seemingly starting off with a much more Nuanced and mature storyline by constantly just using Sigma as a virus who's obsessed with 0 for some stupid reason the story started to feel as childish as the original series Where it's just the same guy over and over and over again even though the story keeps trying to pretend it's not just the same guy Also one thing I did always kind of find funny about the storyline is the idea that somehow decades of war 100 years in the future is nothing more than two scientists in a dick measuring contest in particular dr Wily having a science project rejected leads to several hundred years of nonstop robot wars And not going to lie but the whole virus idea kind of negates the whole point of free will with the Reploids And in the end the repoids aren't really any different than the robots from the original series Also just a quick Not to end off this rant I always find it funny within the game's context that There's constantly these devastating robot wars in multiple series timelines that stretch on for several hundred years yet people continue to make these robots instead of just stopping making them Since they obviously aren't worth it
Gotta say that the Helmet Upgrade is actually *mostly* useful if you decide to play without looking up anything and don't actually know the location of all upgrades beforehand, whoch was my case when months ago when I played the whole game with no guides (minus how to find the Shoryuken lol) It was the only way I could ever get a hint of where the heart tank at Morph Moth's stage was - although even then I still spent minutes clueless until I accidentally found out one specific weapon's utility being what I needed to get where it was leading me to. That aside, MMX2 having such a good buster upgrade makes it satisfying to use over even the usual weapon weaknesses. Aside from Wheel Gator, it is a true blast through and through.
X2 remains my favorite X in the series. X1 did a lot of things right, things I wish translated into X2, but for all the things that didn't get moved over, we got a lot of other cool things. I also agree with your criticisms, we share em even. People sleep on this game because it has more RNG aspects to it, but it's so damn good.
Enjoyable review 👍🏼. Although I disagree with the helmet critique. Everyone sh1ts on it like as if the game came out in 2024. Everyone has the part locations because of the internet. You should try to imagine the practicality of it during the era of gaming it was released in. People actually went out to buy magazines to find these secrets. Lazy af but it still happened lol
I reviewed this game a few months back after playing it for the first time, and I personally wasn't a fan. I'm excited to watch this tomorrow to hear a positive review of the game though and to see what I missed on my guideless playthrough.

I love X2, one of my favorite games, even all these years later.
The helmet is still bad but it DOES lead you to "secret room" where if you charge up certain weapon can give you E tank refill
Helmet is bad when you're born in an era where all the part locations are on the internet. It wasn't an amazing upgrade but it served its purpose
at least fans improved it in mmx corrupted, spawns a random item when used

Can confirm, helmet was a godsend as a kid. Even just for filling E tanks in crab level! And it looks so cool
