This video really spoke to my heart. I miss my home country. I always think of SA as a rare gem of culture & beauty. I felt the same way when 13:49 I visited my family in SA after 6 years away and I felt embarrassed that I believed the media that build fear when the only fear we should have is not living life to it’s fullest.
Beautiful words Riesabet. 🙏🏼
YES!!!…ABSOLUTELY!!!…OF COURSE!!! Your outstanding photographic and video abilities combined with your knowledge can only lend itself perfectly with the beauty that is South Africa. 🇿🇦 I would most pleased if you could.
We visited twice-once to pick up our daughter who spent a summer in a monkey sanctuary near Kruger Park, and second time with our son and daughter to visit Cape Town, Namibia and Mauritius-a trip of a life time. Your scenery montage only encouraged me to return! I assume you had no problems driving on the “sensible” side of the road again. 👍🏻
Heheh, no problems at all, although when I came back to Portugal I had a moment 😊
@@AlgarveAddicts 😁
Loved this video, Nick ... YES ... Would love to see more of your trip to South Africa.
Thanks Janys 👋🏼
Yes! Would love to see more of your South Africa footage. The way you include a bit of history, stunning visuals that show both the good and bad of places, combined with your unique and interesting storytelling always makes for great videos. This one, from start to finish, actually felt like you took us with you. The look on your face on the plane showed authentic contemplation and concern. You seem like a good soul. Thank you for your work.
You're welcome M 👍🏼
Been to SA twice and such a beautiful country!
Gorgeous 😎👍🏼
I was born in Brazil, daughter of Italians living there, moved to London which I love but planning my retirement soon in Algarve. I love Portugal, its people and the safety in the country. Embrace change is part of me, of my family. I can’t wait for my next relocation that’s why I came across with your channel; watched all your videos about Algarve, they are the best on the internet, thank you for post them!
Thank you so much, that's very kind 🙏🏼
I was there last year and I LOVED Portugal. The Algarve was my favorite part of the trip. It's so laid back and there is a lot to be said for sunshine and sangria. I have friends relocating to the Algarve from Atlanta by end of August and I may not be far behind. It's a beautiful country with amazing people. There is so much to explore and learn.
Too true!
Hi Nick my elder brother lived and worked in the then Swaziland for 12 yrs.I wasn't in a position to visit.but was able to visit friends in Jo'burg in 2001 ( a gated community)The moment I stepped off the plane and smelled the air it was love. There's nowhere like it. Since then I have visited three times, to Capetown, to Sun City..walked with elephants.been up close with protected lions..been on safari..visited the wineries. Now I live-in Portugal, love it,,but something is still missing...in the air.
Nothing like the bush!
Yes, would really enjoy seeing more of South Africa in future videos.
Thanks for your response 👍🏼
Excellent video! Beautiful footage. Thanks for sharing. My cousin spent her honeymoon in South Africa in 2018 and she loved it.
Thanks 🙏🏼
Great video Nick! 👏
Thanks Susan!
Loved it Nick. I left Cape Town in 1997 for the US and lived here ever since. I think I recognized the Magaliesberg, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay (with the Beacon Isle Hotel), Oudshoorn (Cango Caves), Stellenbosch?, Blouberg Strand with it's spectacular Table Mountain views, Chapman's Peak, Newlands, and 4th Beach Clifton (old hangout in my 20's), among other memorable places. I spent my honeymoon touring the Garden Route and worked in Rondebosch, right close to Newlands. I hardly ever return nowadays, but South Africa remains one of the most beautiful countries on earth. Thanks for the memories. I visited the Algarve last year in April, but only found your channel afterwards. Love your channel BTW.
Thanks so much, I think our paths may have crossed really close to each other in the 90s. I used to hang out on Clifton and in Rondebosch. The only spot we didn't visit in your list was Stellenbosch. Maybe that was the drone shot of the vineyards which was taken in Montagu. 👍🏼 Great memory!
What a beautiful country! Yes, please, make a video about South Africa. ♥🌍
Hi, again, Nick. I know we're all different, with varying desires, different ideas of what the perfect life is etc, but I'd urge anyone leaving highschool/university to try for work experience abroad. The first 15 years of adulthood were great for me in Portugal. Not a care in the world, all the goodies you mentioned, but I'm not sure how well I'd deal with relocating in later life. For all its downsides, the UK has been such an easy ride for me. Got lucky I suppose. Did the right things at the right time. Part of me still wants to spend more time in Portugal, though. It's still my 'half home'. Ps, it's boiling here, by the way😃SA looks amazing.
I agree with you about the travel thing. The University of Life is real.
Def yes would love to see your itinerary, I’m sure it’s Uber interesting………🤗🇨🇦
Love to see your blogs, planning to travel to Portugal as to “see for myself “ probably will try to connect once I’m there in later 2023
Good idea, real life is always better than RUclips videos 😊 Let us know if you need a tour when you're here.
I really enjoyed watching this video about the relocation phenomenon in Portugal. Nick, you are doing a great job of revealing real life in the Algarve and helping people who want to move there. I love your enthusiasm and your insights into the culture, the lifestyle and the opportunities.
You make me want to book a video call with you and plan a scouting trip to the Algarve. I’m curious about the different areas and the real estate options. You seem to have a lot of experience and knowledge that I could benefit from. Thank you for sharing your story and your passion for Portugal.👏
You're welcome, let me know if you need help.
Thank you so much, what is the best way to contact you. 👍

When first visiting various towns in the Algarve in the early 1980s.... it reminded me a lot of the smaller towns in Rhodesia (now Zim) in the 1960s..... a sort of home from home.
SA looked great, Nick - would love to see more. Thanks.
Yes!
Yes Dan! 👍🏼
Yes. :). Nice that you could show your daughter the old hood. :)
Yes, she loved it and perfected her South African accent 😂
Great video ❤
Thanks Jill
Hi Nick, Thank you for the positive video about South Africa! Yes crime is bad but the people here, climate, the country as a whole is just so beautiful! Really enjoyed this video!!
Cheers for the comment! 👍🏼
Would love a video of your itinerary - such a beautiful country!
It is wonderful, I'll getti together. 👍🏼
After 30 years spent in Port Elizabeth SA I left this magnificent country with a very sad heart for the same reasons as Nick mentioned in his video. Feeling a bit guilty to leave friends behind. Goodbye South Africa, Hello Portugal.
Make the most of it! Portugal is very different to SA but wonderful in its own right.
Yes
Alright then 😎👍🏼
Yes! :)
I’ll definitely read Zambezi patrol ! ✅
I can send you a copy if you like. I have one somehwere.
@@AlgarveAddicts That’s kind ! We are hoping to cook for you and M soon ! Standby for a date !! 😂
I have been kicking around the idea of retiring abroad when my time comes, and the Algarve seemed so appealing. So imagine my dismay to read articles about how Americans and Brits and others are POURING into Portugal, driving up the cost of living, and just generally ruining the place in a big hurry. Will it still be worth it in another 5 or 10 years? The cost of living was important to me, and that I hear is now "skyrocketing." Is it just Lisbon and some other big cities? I will do the scouting trip, but for now does anyone have an opinion on this? Nick, or anyone else?
Things are getting more expensive here, but while more and more people are interested in relocating, I wouldn't say they are POURING in. It's a typical case of press sensationalism. However there is a definite trend of foreigners relocating to Portugal. If you see the overall figures there were about 700k foreigners in 2021 (out of 10.5m Portuguese). It'll be interesting to see the 2022 numbers.
SA sounded horrible (almost like the US) and then you showed that beautiful footage of animals and nature. ❤ I think I’d like to visit Cape Town and surrounds. Looks like you had a wonderful visit.
It WAS wonderful Christina 😎👍🏼
You know it's funny I was looking at a guide book and they only had Lisbon and one of their city listed in the stops for the tour... So that's a real shame cuz it didn't even stop in the algarth❤
Yes, please show your whole experience. I plan on moving to SA by end of the year
Wow, like moving full time to SA?
@@AlgarveAddicts Yes, I know there are issues but I think things will turn around. The country is beautiful and have really good people.
You do amazing videos by the way. I have seen a lot of youtubers and you sir are one of the best in the business.
Wow, thanks very much for that. Now all I need is 100k subscribers 😎👍🏼
@@AlgarveAddicts agreed, I'm sure you will get there. Keep up the great work✌🏽
I would add 'weather' to that list. 😅
Glad you didn't sugar coat things in S.A. I dated a lady from Johannesburg and went to visit and experienced the things you mentioned...there were a few scary moments and some great ones also. But due to the crime i won't be going back..not worth the risk...Wished I'd seen Capetown though.
Cape Town is special, you gotta go!
Nice video. SA looks amazing. Now I understand why your last video was somewhat delayed. I guess you're allowed to have a life outside of producing content for my entertainment! Love your stuff!
Kevin from SA here.. In Portugal now for just over two months, been living there my whole life, 36 years. As beautiful as it can be there, I've seen enough.. Haha.. Too many bad experiences there and just a overall very poor quality of life. Living in Gauteng (Pretoria) is nothing like those locations Nick. As they say, if you a rich person in SA it isn't too bad, just gotta stay street smart. But I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Cheers Kevin, Yes as much as I loved our trip back there (with Euros!) I wouldn't go back to live.
@@AlgarveAddicts Yeah for sure. The rand is so weak. You definitely left at the right time.
Hi, can you provide more information for families with school aged children in the Algarve. I am interested mostly in the Algarve region (maybe around Lagos) for the weather, and outdoor active lifestyle, especially ocean activities. I'm from Southern California. My husband is Brazilian, we both speak fluent Portuguese and have an 8 year old. We also have access to an EU visa. We are actually living in the UK, but find it too cold for us. We have the ability to work remotely. I see so many American families living on the Silver Coast, it seems beautiful and more affordable, but the weather seems too cold for me. I am more interested in the Algarve, but I wonder if there is a real community for younger expats (early 40's) with kids. Or does it become too seasonal and isolated in the winters? Especially for kids. Myself I enjoy surfing, paddle boarding, hiking, biking, pickle ball, tennis, golf. I like a quiet life, but for my daughter, it would be good for her to have year round residents to connect with. Also I see there are many dogs barking in Portugal, when I lived in Brazil the noise of them was very difficult for me to get accustomed to. Is there any neighborhoods or regions you think this may be less of a problem? Thanks for your help.
Avoid the Silver coast ! Two of my friends have moved from the Silver Coast to the central algarve. They would beg you not to move there !
Why, Max?
Hi Sarah, I've been trying to setup a video with a Mom who has school aged kids. Hopefully we can get her and her friends on soon.
@@AlgarveAddicts The shocking weather is the key issue ! Who wants to play golf in wind, rain and low cloud ?
It’s also relatively unsophisticated. It’s a long slog to the airport (LIS)
Oh and finally, if you put your money into a property there it’s really difficult to find a buyer when you come to move on!
The Algarve is superior in pretty much every singe respect !
@@AlgarveAddicts Both friends lost money on their homes. If they had purchased in perhaps Cascais or Algarve they would have made 60% in six years.
March 8, 2022 I arrived in Portugal having never been here before. RUclips videos like yours and those of others was sufficient for me, and I do not regret moving without having had a scouting trip. I just recently moved into my newly purchased home in Vila Nova de Gaia, and now I think I may want to buy an additional property to rent. Thanks Nick!!! I wanted OUT of the US as quickly as possible, and it's amazing to be here.
Glad you love it Roy!
Great looking thumbnail. Has a nice AI look 👍👍
Thanks AI Meister! I'm looking forward to your new channel 😊
After listening to people I always thought SA was a terrible place, I realise there is lots of crime and it's certainly more dangerous than Portugal but OMG it looks amazing.
It is... in a word, amazing. A very special place with incredibly resilient people who deal with the hardships so well.
There’s a saying , you can leave Africa , but Africa will never leave you , I lived in SA for 61 years, but due to crime and corruption moved to Portugal 🇵🇹
I hear you Albert. So true.
No wonder white fox from SA are moving anywhere they can,
... yeah I lived next to Mexico and we'd always hear crazy stories and still do to this day be even worse in the last couple years... We've been to a number of countries but just the way the cartel runs the country of Mexico is terrible.
I wonder what your father would think of Zim today? 🤦♂️
He was pretty sad about it back in 2000. More of the same I guess.
Yes!
😎👍🏼
