You’re a natural story teller. Never stop!
Having watched maybe 30-40 episodes your love and respect for portugal is evident .Nice summing up this far into the adventure.Good move smart move and who knows if there are any more because that is a lovely life where you're at-- hard to imagine giving that up.Cheers and thanks for giving us these vignettes of your life.
Ok I’ll say it for you only because I’m Portuguese from immigrant grandparents and l was married to a Portuguese guy from the Acores. My children are first generation American. I live in a huge Portuguese area south of Boston
Faults …..We are intrusive at times which is exactly what you said. People getting up close to see and or hear whatsoever is going on. The second thing is we are LOUD especially when we are gathered with our families. I think those are our biggest faults.
On the other hand we are hard workers. We are resilient, kind, compassionate, honest, loving, always willing to lend a hand, proud of our heritage and love our festas(parties) especially when family is together. Oh yes we definitely are Catholic and join in on many church celebrations and ceremonies. I’m just finding your channel now but I’ll binge watch and catch up w you later. You’re a lucky man. If you’re lucky enough to live in Portugal then you’re lucky enough.
PS… we are amazing cooks.
And what an amazing journey you have had so far. You are truly an amazing man. 🤗🌻
Well done Mate, takes “balls” to take on such a change in location and life. I am Australian, so the good weather is easy to identify with. My Wife (She’s a Pom) loves rural Europe, particularly Portugal, Spain and France and if it wasn’t for our Children (6) and 5 Grandchildren….. we’d love to do something similar to what You have done. However we are building in soon in rural South Australia 🇦🇺 and I will just follow your experience and live out our European passion vicariously through your and other similar channels. If we get back to Europe and we happen to get to southern Portugal…… we might catch up for a few frothies 🍻🍻……. Meanwhile enjoy your life and we’ll enjoy following your escapades.
Loved this video. I love Portugal and the Portuguese are such lovely people. We often visit the Algarve and stay in Silves and love to spend time in Monchique. We never use the motorways and just stick to the N25 to get from Faro to Silves. Thank you for such an interesting video.
Awesome... inspirational.. love it...👍...
Hi Andrew! Interesting story. It seems that many people from the UK are hoofing it to Portugal for very good reasons. I moved from Montreal Quebec to rural Nova Scotia. The family originated here. The city was insane. I had to drive to work about 4 blocks through 8 traffic lights. I decided I had enough of the politics, crowds, and sitting for long periods of time in traffic because they were always doing construction. Nova Scotia is much more sane. The winters suck but we do have the mildest winters in Canada. Every place has a negative. It is said that, regarding Nova Scotia, your heart will never leave. There is truth to that. But the palms, the fruit trees, the beaches, the weather. P💓rtugal! So tantalizing! I could get used to that.🙂👍🌻🌷🇨🇦
This was so cool. I just saw the house I own and will be rebuilding in your video. It's the one above the moto clube house in Monte Ruivo LOL... Thank you for that made my day. I'll be there in 6 weeks :)
Hi Andy your journey is a real adventure and sharing your experience is usefull information thank you for that. I enjoy your clips of the renovating and natural environment. Keep up the filming take care.
It has been a joy following you here on youtube😊
Thanks for sharing your experiences with us all. 👌
Love the historical recap & positive aspect of this blog. Thanks so much Andrew!
Been waiting for this one, Andy 👍
I really enjoyed you sharing, Andy. All good reasons for moving from the UK to Portugal, and it's great that you have found that the positives greatly outweigh the negatives. Lovely to see that one of your fruit trees that you planted last year is already bearing fruit!
It was a good choice to go live in the sunshine in the countryside near the sea. I know you work hard, but surely the life/work balance is easier to attain. Be happy Andrew.🌻🌞💕
I really enjoyed this video Andy. I’m happy because you. Thank you for you love Portugal and the people. My granddaughter is English too 😊
Enjoy Portugal and the next hot summer 🥵😎😎😎🇵🇹 🎉🎉🎉
Perhaps worth a mention of all the Ex.Pat clubs and activities.
Hash Running, Cycling clubs , Motorcycling clubs Badmington etc. etc.
And how active people stay, later in life, even if it's just wandering down to the local bar in the sunshine for a few hours every evening knowing your mates will be there.
I like your thoughts Andy.
The time to reflect has come.
Great video as usual, funny, kind, reflective, positive,.....your videos make me wanna sell up and head across the pond and check it all out:):)
I’ve enjoyed your progress Andy and the dogs, well, rv, house in town and yours. Stay well and enjoy the summer.
Sorry for not completing the above comment.
Life is extremely peaceful and makes me aware of your sincerest approach to simple and less simple things.
Great video Andrew! Thanks for sharing your perception of Portugal 🇵🇹
The video came out great. Very enjoyable to watch.
That was wonderful, thank you.
EXCELENTE GENERAL INFO ANDY... I'D LOVE TO HEAR MORE ABOUT IT... DIFFERENT PEOPLE... DIFFERENT NEEDS AND WANTS... THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS AND EXPERIENCES...
Have watched all your videos this one was that good I’ve watched it twice 👌🇵🇹
😂👍
I am from Portugal and follow a few others like yourself who have made a home in Portugal. I am very keen to find the right place for me and my family (although they are much more reluctant than I am). The ambition is similar, build a more self-sustained way of life, growing your own produce as well as animals. I would love to combine that with the potential to earn some money from providing some rental spaces within my property to allow other families to come and visit to enjoy that more relaxed lifestyle whilst still being able to go on day trips to various locations. I know the Algarve and most Southern areas get very hot during the Summer but equally further up north it doesn't escape the heat either.
Looking at properties and prices, what kind of budget should one set themselves plus contingencies for living there without necessarily earning something (I realise You Tube is an option but still limited).
In terms of language, it would not be a problem at all.
Thinking the same thing, you can also buy some horses and rent them out to visitors/ travelers, also renting out canoes, these are minimal businesses that take less effort to maintain!
What a nice time spent in ypur company, listening to all your points of view, so interesting. The way you talk about your new
Cannot wait until it’s all about you and your house xx
What a laugh! Good one! 😂. Life happens, and sometimes it does have a happy ending!
Nice to "meet" you Andy, what a nice introduction of yourself and your more personal info. 😉😀
Good to see you full spirit and energy.
Thanks for the Vid!
You lucky Bugger Put me down for the last week in July. .......................... Interesting video this week.
It all looks fabulous - The mix of living daily life in the sun as well as being able to travel around and you have the best 4 legged companion. It all sounds very tempting indeed! Enjoy your best life!
Andy, i'm only nine minutes into this video and I can completely relate to you, what you have done and what you are saying, especially about the dogs, and how they are part of you, as family and or best friends. "Take my hat off to you". I believe it is the expression. Well done. It's so nice to see a happy person. I will be driving around Portugal next month and would love to meet up.
Enjoyed this very much! Thank you and please keep then rolling.
There must be several listeners who would give their eye teeth do do what you do, or be with you living the way you do..God Bless you Andy…
Hi Andy! Been watching your videos for a long time, and you and your brother are good fun to watch, everything that you accomplished in this journey. All the feelings you have to Portugal and Portuguese people makes me proud of my country. We're not perfect but we are friendly and welcoming genuine people. I hope you enjoy all the good things that Portugal can offer you and we appreciate what you gives in return by also helping the local economy. Big hug.
Hi Carlos just to let you know I am French, been in Australia since 1970 and I have the
Great pleasure to know your country since 1975, I spent few years in Algarve Tavira and now Torrao near Evora, I travel 20,000 km just to embrace your history and culture. Portugal is the only country were I feel safe and happy amongst Portugueses people.
There is a "je ne sais quoi de gentillesse " towards us foreigners. Thank you for being friendly and sharing your beautiful country with many nationalities.
@@moniqueviegas1639
Thanks @moniqueviegas1639, the French were "the first" to discover Portugal for their holidays many decades ago, and the country gets full of French in the summer and lots decided to stay and live. It is always a pleasure to welcome you in our country and enjoy what we can offer you. Big hug
Don’t bring your kids there
I just loved this episode so I’ll be watching it again. Thank you for being so candid. I appreciate your honesty and values. And it did my heart good to see you in that hammock even if it was just for the video.
The Algraves are awesome!
My Gosh, what a video! I just loved it. Your best, so far
Thank you
I'm back for more! Thanks for the tour! I went to learn a bit about Portugal and how it's populated and why. climate and all. Thanks for telling your inspirational story. You are a brave man!🎉🎉❤🎉
I live in South Florida and I also noticed that people of South American cultures of any ages (sometimes a whole family), tend to stand a little too close when standing in line.
There is such a thing as personal space or 'aura' and we are allowed to enjoy it a lot bigger in Central/Northern Europe.
Also, if u move out of the way forward to expand your space, they follow you like your shadow, so nothing helps. 😄
My late father was a Sicilian artist and sculptor living in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Obidos, Portugal when I was 12 in 1977. He flew me there when I was 16 to spend the summer. Obidos is a beautiful walled village with a castle in the center. The people were lovely and the culture so rich. We spent days at the Algarve, enjoying the beach life. A wonderful experience for a young man. I had my first beer there, I believe it was called Super Bock.
Hi Andrew
I really love your story about your home in Portugal and the building your brother and brother are renovating. I'm way in NZ. God bless you.❤
Your best video so far Andy. It can be intimidating baring all to strangers as to why your life took such a change in direction. However, there are many of us in the UK and elsewhere that need people like you to show that changing ones life in a major way is not only possible, but can be the best thing you've ever done.
I remember a con: People smoke in Cafés. In restaurants is not allowed, but in cafés it is.
I wouldn’t call that a con.
Hi Andrew, sounds like your liveing in Australian your weather and beaches are just like here. Just beautiful, hello from Australia.
Cheers Andy, thanks for sharing your life with us. Me and mum have been watching since pre covid, we're now coming up to 1 year in the Algarve 😊
Excellent and helpful video, Andy! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your love of Portugal!
Fabulous Andrew! And inspirational. I’m so glad you are allowing us to come along on your adventure! I see the cork trees are in bloom and look at all those peaches (yum!!). Those beautiful pots and bowls at the shop at the start of the video were so lovely ❤. I am planning a trip to Portugal in September and I am definitely looking forward to experiencing the culture and some tasty food. Thanks again. Great video!
Enjoyed all the info. 👍🏻

Hey Andy been watching on and off from the beginning, you are an interesting man, on an interesting journey, love the attention and detail you put into all your projects.👍😁
Thanks for sharing your experiences😀
One of the things I really appreciate here is that most people are very open and willing to help, even if you haven't mastered the language yet.
Loved this video, really insightful, informative and funny. Was hooked from when it first started, I love your enthusiasm and straight talking. Everything you said resonated with me. We are so looking forward to exploring Portugal and maybe living there 😊
Glad you are Enjoying Life! 😊😊
Loved the video Andrew.
Great video
It sounds strange to listen to you talking all these nice things about us portuguese without a… but…. Very enjoyable video, you are a very good storyteller and looks like you found your happy place.
Absolutely wonderful video Andrew.
I really enjoyed this video Andy. Your enthusiasm and joy in living in the Algarve is infectious. I can understand why after my brief holiday adventure in Loule last year- boat trip to the islands, swimming with dolphins, night trip to the circus, horseack riding in countryside while listening to all the dogs barking😂 . And also the wonderful people that I met -all in November. Magic🐬🐴🎪🦴
Excellent vid. You’re vid skills are getting really good 👍. Interesting to hear the recap. 😁 It will be fun to go back and watch some of the earlier ones. ❤️👍🌺🇺🇸☮️
Nice to learn a bit more about you Andy and your living your dream for sure. Enjoyed the video thank you xx
Sweet video and nice to know a bit of your backstory Andy
Thank you Andy for the wonderful documentary you make smile,.think happy,be well 😎❤️
Andy, Thanks for that tour d’horizon which we found both interesting and enjoyable. We’ve been watching since you were draining and renovating the well which seems longer ago than it was and enjoy your videos greatly and admire what you have set out to do and have achieved. Loved your point about the lack of overt materialism (we are fortunate to live somewhere in the UK where there is a similar unflashy vibe save for the tourists).
Thank you Andy, for this warm nas friendly video! Going to Portugal on June, holpe I can visit yours Algarve😊
Wow you made your decision so quickly! Very inspiring. It usually takes me months and months to make such a big decision like that. New sub. Looking forward to learning more about how living in portugal looks like.
Thank you for such an interesting vlog. I was wondering about the wild life there. The shots of beach and water were amazing. It sounds like your living your dream...so happy for you
That was such an engaging video, perfect for me because I am in the situation you were seven years ago. I happened to be in the Algarve this last week so doubly interesting. I didn’t see you there but didn’t go looking either. Thank you for bringing us along on your interesting journey. ❤️
Happy to have discovered such a genuine person! Thank you for your wonderful videos!
Some words of wisdom mixed in there. Yes definitely a natural story teller. Thanks for sharing Andy.
Top video, I love holidays on the Algarve and hope to relocate some day
Great video Andy.
Greetings from the U.S.! So what about all of the Catholics? Joking! What a refreshing bunch of video and sorted information regarding a super sweet spot in Portugal. Was in Cascais a year ago and while I really liked it, I felt the Algarve calling and at the same time love the land aspect in close proximity. Will be planning a trip soon (Algarve) within a couple months and look forward to living vicariously through you in the meanwhile. Keep 'em coming!
I like the way you edited your video. My kid is gonna be 18 in 2 yrs & I've been contemplating not living in US any more so been learning Portuguese but it's scary so thats when I started looking at ppls Portugal videos. I love seeing all the progress & get inspired by y'alls (u ur bro & sis in law) energy & problem solving & makes me feel like I could maybe do it one day w I have the empty nest!
Thanks Andrew for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guy. Yeah you have a great life and your family near by how wonderful 👍.
Spot on Andrew. Your most recent video truly explains why you have moved to Portugal. It also helps folks know more about the area that you live in and living in Portugal. Looking forward to seeing the completion of your village home Reno and also your own home. See you again next year. Cheers.
So happy for you and the dogs living in your beautiful home you created!
I wished I knew somebody in Portugal. It’s a beautiful country and I have absolutely no problem being an Expat. I just wish I knew someone in a country that I would like to relocate to. You truly give voice to those of us that I wander less but landlocked.!!😮
Hi Andy!
Watched many episodes. I was just down close to your neck of the woods and visited a friend in Santa Catarina. It was such a heartwarming experience and a week in I felt like a new person. Back in September! And the following September; retirement!! Yesss!
What a great video and I’m glad to learn the answers to questions I had. And you’re right, not hard to find you 😂😂
