  • The Lasko 3733 box fan has been on the market for over 3 decades now. Here's a look at this year's revision.
    It overall seems to be about the same as the last few years in regards to noise level and performance. It's not going to move air like a vintage box fan, but at a fraction of the price, it holds it's value. As of the time of this taping (July 2024), the retail price at the The Home Depot was just shy of 20 dollars, which is a decrease compared to the previous few years.
    The fan is overall pretty poorly made, right out of the box there are numerous cosmetic imperfections in the paint on the frame and multiple plastic tags and other molding defects present on the guards and blades. Fortunately this is largely cosmetic detail and doesn't really effect operation, aside from some additional sound from the imperfections of the blade tips.
    The motor seems to be different than the ones used in previous years. I'm unsure if this is due to a change in OEM used, or a change by the OEM used. The motor seems to be of relatively similar specification.
    It's lightweight. It's inexpensive. It's loud. It moves air and will keep you more comfortable. It will last quite a few years if you take decent care of it (regularly clean dust from the motor, guards, and blades). At this price point, I find it totally satisfactory. It's hard to get much of anything for 20 dollars anymore. With that being said, I do think it's worth spending a few more dollars to get one of the 'higher end' Lasko models such as the Power Plus, WeatherShield, or Premium models. Those models move significantly more air.

    Jordan would be cool if you do some videos like compare the new lasko to a 20+ year old lasko maybe those will get some traffic too. Keep up the videos always enjoy hearing your thoughts

    I see the letters "HV" on the motor, implying it is a "Hungder" motor. Oh great, that company is also into the square motor trend? Not good.
    Edit: Am I the only one who noticed this? The bottom of the front grille was redesigned by Lasko. The bottom feet of the front grille always had a tendency to break off, and the redesign actually fixed it. Props to Lasko for actually doing something.

    my parents bought one of these for me back in 2015 for my upstairs bedroom. its still working perfectly today I still use it to pull air from the register in my bedroom and it dose a great job. I also use it to pull air through my window when it's cool enough. I have used it very much. I just clean it out and oil it every year or so and it keeps going year after year

    I think the reason the modern fans get more views is because people like watch us rant and shit on how bad the modern fans are.

      I think the reasoning for this is because they can't purchase vintage fans. That are more likely to go out to Walmart and buy the cheapest thing. Partial reason might have to do with how expensive vintage fans are and how hard they are defined in certain parts of the country. There might even be some people who watch the video to see how the product is before purchasing one model 3733.

    Another typical modern box fan from lasko. Now the 3733 was a nice fan back years ago and so was lasko in general expect for the huge recall they had back in the 90s. Now today this fan may not be as good as it once was back when it was introduced nor is any other fan today but seeing that the maker of this fan is at least making something somewhat decent that has a chance of at least lasting a while is something to be happy about. If it was not for the noise this fan makes I would say 100% that it is worth getting but knowing modern box fans today, it’s hard to come across a modern one that is somewhat quiet like the old vintage ones from a decade or so ago.

    I can relate with not getting enough attention with vintage box fan videos, I own more of them because they're of sentimental value and there just a special part of our history. They have a story to tell and the quality far exceeds these so-called chinese built pieces of junk . I truly believe the fan community is not like it was 10 or 15 years ago I hate to say.. maybe it's because the younger generation is more interested in the modern stuff. Well I'm enjoying seeing the vintage fan videos that are still being uploaded on RUclips . I enjoyed the video Jordan.

    The reason these modern fan videos get way more views than vintage products is because of the younger generations that aren’t interested in older products. As time moves on, older things get left in the past. I bought one of these last week and i replaced the square motor with an older style ‘huddled winding’ motor from 2009, that draws 0.80 amps on the dot and it spins much faster now.
    Edit: Lasko used to use a motor that used an 8uf capacitor and draws 0.80 amps/96 watts; it was called a ‘Sagitta’ motor and it was used from 2013-2021.
    The older lasko fans from 2005-2014 with the huddled windings used a 4uf capacitor and draws anywhere from .76 amps to 0.93 amps depending on which motor brand and years it’s from. The motor from my 2005-06 3733 draws 0.92 amps on high!

      @@stevethefanman8955 It’s the ipad kids that just learned how to multiply that make videos of themselves smashing perfectly good fans for no reason. They have filled these communities with toxicity because they were born on social media and never learned how to socialize properly. Still tho, younger generations of fan collectors will gravitate towards their childhood fans, people born in the early 2000s will like fans from that era, people born in the 2010s will like fans from that era too. I can’t blame them as i’m a gen z kid myself and i like fans from the 2000s and 2010s.

      Fun fact! There used to be a Sagitta "weather-shield" motor. It wasn't used in the weather-shield box fan, but rather an 18" pedestal fan. The sagitta motor had NO startup sound yet it had an 8uF capacitor. It was roughly the same amount of power as one from a genuine weather-shield box fan.
      Also, I found Sagitta Electric's website which showcases motors, and the stators that were used in the box fans. Theoretically, you could buy a new stator if you needed to.
      In their 16" pedestal fan was a Sagitta motor with a capacitor that wasn't 8uF (I forgot what the rating was.)

      @Fanscarsetc 3 дня назад

      @@sccpsteve yeah, a few years ago I also found their website and i found cophaco’s too. I feel like the sagitta motors have replaced what used to be the “promotor” and HV has replaced what used to be the “Hung Hsing” or “glory” motors. i have a video where i tested a cool colors fan with the sagitta motor and they only seem to draw max of 0.80 amps/96 watts when they’re cold which is much less than today’s weathershield @ 0.96 amps/110 watts cold-start.

    The 3733 has always had the oval logo (after they moved from the rectangle in the corner in 1998.) The one with the rectangle badge is the B20200 which is sold only at Wal-Mart. It is the same fan except for the badge on the grille, so I don't know why they make it a different model.

    I'm thinking about buying one of these fans now that I saw this video. Something I can put on the table in front of my window AC unit, I have one of those Walmart lasko pedestal oscillating fans and it doesn't seem very powerful even on the high setting, I noticed box fans are more powerful and push more air. My question is is the motor on this fan permanently lubricated like my lasko pedestal fan is so I don't have to worry about lubrication.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  Час назад

      There is no such thing as permanent lubrication.

    • @hunterd825
      @hunterd825 11 минут назад

      Ok, I got the b20200 which apparently is the same fan except it's only sold at Walmart. It's a great fan for $20, the only problem that I found is that when on medium or high it will slide backwards on my table but I think that's because the fan vibrating. Not to doubt what you said, but the manual of the fan said it was permanently lubricated which according to chatGPT means it shouldn't need lubricated for the life of the fan. This is what chatGPT has to say.
      A fan that is "permanently lubricated" means that its bearings are pre-lubricated with a high-quality lubricant during manufacturing and are sealed in such a way that they do not require additional lubrication throughout the lifespan of the fan. This design helps to ensure that the fan operates smoothly and quietly without the need for regular maintenance to reapply lubricant..

    I wish I could offer you a late 1990's 3733 Lasko in trade but, it's been living as a shop fan the whole time. Yes, it gets blown out with shop air and oiled when it seems to need it. They were cheap dime store fans back then and I don't understand the appeal.
    IMO, a fan has to have metal blades to be worthy of collecting. I do have a GE W22 box fan with plastic blades and I wish I had an older metal blade version instead.
