Mainly because during his 1 year tenure with the Braves, he was pretty much drama free, and everyone in the clubhouse seemed to love him. Hell, even when the front office couldn't figure out an extension with him, he parted the organization on good terms.

If Donaldson had gotten started a little earlier or had played the entirety of some of those injury years, he could have had a HOF case. There are 53 position players with less WAR than Donaldson has right now. If he played a few more years or even really one more good year he'd have over 50 WAR and 300 HRs with a 131 career OPS+ and an MVP. People seem to overlook just how good he truly was. He has a higher OPS than the average HOF hitter

As a Yankee fan who saw Donaldson all season this year, I agree with this video's title. What made me particularly furious were the (at least) FOUR different times he bat-flipped and admired his shot, only to not have the ball leave the park, turning what should have been four doubles into two singles and two times getting thrown out between first and second - and those were all just in the games at Yankee Stadium. (At one point I looked up and found the four games they happened in, for confirmation.) And then there's all the instances of being on edge, ready to explode if he got hit or nearly got hit by a pitch.
All that being said, I was not aware of his home circumstances as a child. It obviously doesn't excuse all of his actions as an adult, but it certainly makes them more understandable. (I don't mean acceptable - I mean I can understand the behavior better now.) I know I was certainly shaped by my experiences at a young age. Unfortunate that we're not in control of what happens to us in our most formative years...

My impression with JD has always been that he is trying to bring the "chirp" into baseball, like how NHL players chirp at the opposition. The trouble with chirping in baseball is that you have pitchers who throw 95 mph + and so you just gotta be careful who you "chirp" about. In JD's case, he was chirping at a black player who just wanted to bring the Jackie Robinson back into baseball. JD just picked the wrong guy to chirp about.

The problem with Chirping in NHL. Is you have dudes in full pads ready to body you into a wall at full speed. They also could fight you right there on the ice, They have sticks that look like they could hurt too.

What happened in his childhood is horrendous, , and it is good that he mother instilled in him an anti-victim mentality and did her best to raise him well. It clearly game him a drive to prove people wrong and become the great athlete he is today. That being said, that kind of trauma without processing it can eventually become detrimental to one's mental and physical health and can affect one's relationships with those around them. His confrontational and anti-victimhood nature could easily make him very toxic to the point that no team wants to hire him. It can also turn him into someone that won't be able to take responsibility for his own actions because that mentality won't let him believe anything is his fault. It is great that instead of turning to drugs and alcohol (as far as we know) he put his focus into sports. So many people with his background can't manage that. But I hope that has been in and/or is in therapy to work through and process that trauma. One of the actions of a mentally healthy adult (just in my opinion) is knowing how to pick your battles. Knowing what is worth fighting for and what you should just let go. It seems like Donaldson can't let anything go at all right now. Can things get heated on the diamond, sure. But it seems like there is a lot of stuff off the diamond that he just can't let go. If that is the case, hopefully he can learn to choose what is important to fight for, and what isn't.

I like him. I don't see any thing wrong with him tbh. Manny was throwing bats at people (him) but JD didn't do anything like that. He tells it like it is. He is not racist either. People are overly sensitive now a days and will react to anything they deem close to being racist. Dude called himself jackie and donaldnson was just doubling down on that. As for calling out umpires, they need accountability. I'm for showing bad calls on the jumbo tron so everyone sees it, just like they do on TV. That way the shitty ump can see where the zone is since he cant see it in front of his face and get better.

If u have the nerve to refer to yourself as Jackie Robinson, u best expect to get clowned on and called Jackie in a mocking way. it has nothing to do with race. Lotta virtue signaling going on. I like Tim Andersen but I just dont agree... Donaldson may be an asshole and he maybe shouldn't have said anything because of how people like to spin the narrative nowadays. However, I believe calling him racist is a fucking reach

I had the whole section riding him when he was at Toronto vs Baltimore during that riff with Machado we had first row rt at 3rd base. Actually now hearing his story of his early life has similar parallels to my own life....unfortunately I wasn't able to break cycle and went to prison myself a lifetime ago it seems edit note that although their riff started when he was an A there was more drama with Machado this video completely changed my respect level but now hes a Yankee

His childhood appears to have resulted in irreparable damage. However mental heath has taken huge strides. Someone close to him or for that matter any of the 5 teams he played for were obliged to try to get him help. Donaldson could never do it-he never thought he was emotionally off base.
