as a first year hes doing very well and first game as a bantam its extremely good to see hes not afraid of taking a hit to make a play and keeps his awareness high.
Wow he has great IQ and awareness for such a young player. Everyone has their first “keep your head up” moment at some point as a bantam; impressive the way he shook it off and didn’t shy away from contact afterwards. Even laid a couple clean checks with the exception of that hilarious cross-check
Nah not at all... I never once got hit as a bantam, but I destroyed many of them 😴😴😴
@@voiceofreason7567 never got hit cause you played house
@@zeekchaffin6026 nah I played on a higher level than you kiddo…
@@voiceofreason7567 are you really chirping on this video? Calm your tits bud
Good skater too. That young man has really put in the time. My best friend in high school got his keep your head up moment crossing a blueline as the puck carrier. He got absolutely smoked. I can still hear the sounds of the skates, the stick, the helmet all in collision and then to the ice. It was a clean hit, just really, really hard. He manned it up, somehow got to his feet and to the bench, but he was in absolute misery on the bench. He learned.
Yeah, it's an adjustment. When my older son did his first Bantam game he got drilled when he went on the ice. Barely had two steps down and got laid out. Definitely a "welcome to bantam" moment.
now im going to minor midget 💀
I’m the person to give the welcome to my league hit
@@acenova4860 so ima get flat out bullied
@@meatloafgamer1335 im short so im going to get rocked
Yeah I’m 14 but earlier this year I played midget and bantam so when I went to play midget I was 5’3 and 13 100lbs and lets just say 18 year olds hit hard
When I played my first bantam game, none of the opposing players came near me due to my giant height of 6'2" as well as having the physique of a running back. I have happy memories of creating "welcome to bantam" moments on all the other teams and took pride in that fact. And despite my lack of skill in skating or scoring (more of a playmaker), I was often on lines with star players for my innate ability to intimidate the other team with my height and girth. Of course, that only lasted for a couple of years; however, my reputation had cemented itself on the rink and gave me the confidence to continue my "reign of terror" on the ice. But that said ... a word of warning to all you young players. This was back in the early 80s, way before anyone cared about concussions and it's probably the reason I suffer from debilitating migraines to this day. So be careful out there kids. Believe you me, it's not worth it.
Bantam is when they unleash the boom
Used to coach bantam.. and the jump from pee-wee you get to see the kids that could skate through everyone end to end get an eye opener when some D man steps up on him.. some can hang and some hang ‘em up..but what a fun age to coach..
As a hockey fan and competitive tendy, I’m cringing at how off-center that goalie was on that first play
For anyone that wants to argue that “it’s just the way the camera is positioned, there is an easy way to find if the goalie actually is off-center.
1. Draw a line from the middle (padded) post to the goalie, and then to the puck. If not straight or close to straight, goalie is out of position
2. The fact that the shot went to the outside of the goalie, but still had a lot of space in between it and the post shows that the goalie was off-center
couple cross checks in there but he'll get the hang of it. feels like yesterday i was just a kid playing my first bantam game 10 years ago lol
You just know that thee Blue player’s Mom is screaming that 21 is a goon!
i played against 21 last year. he was really good. i remember everyone on the ice that is in this video
This kid has some good reads. Even when his initial chances didn't pan out he had the presence of mind to throw the puck back in the slot.
I like the physical aspect as well.
Very good instincts and use of speed to close gaps or get open. Good use of angles near the boards to hit players or gain possession on the puck.
Definitely coachable.
Takes 2 hits and just starts killing the other team, good stuff
Not really.
All hits were with arms leading into the hit first.
Typical result of Coaches negligence of teaching hit technique.
I have seen some very bad complete right behind the wrist where growth plates are (critical for proper bone growth) fractures exactly because of this.
Coaches usually have no idea what constitutes legal hit and they, as a result, don't teach them. What these kids do can be dangerous for both players.
You always must go into the hit with your shoulder first where you leading foot is in vertical extension of your shoulder. Only then, upon the impact, you can start raising your elbow to create safe space for you if so needed.
What you see is all "fun" until you have one player out for entire season or more when he gets hurt.
I've witnessed it. I've seen it.
It was one of the reasons I became Coach because I couldn't stand watching kids get hurt because of lack of proper training
A few years back, I wrote a book about how to train and coach kids.
Because of my unconventional methods, I was able to make my players and teams get better 3,4 times faster than others, with much less ice time available.
I've never published the book because my plan was to make Video Disk with it, so everyone who would be able to read and view it, would understand how things actually work.
But so far, I haven't been able to accomplish the second part due to lack of time available to me. I have not been involved in coaching for almost 15 years now;
However, since I am seeing same patterns repeating over and over, I am starting to think about completing my project so it can benefit everyone who is interested in getting better faster and without unnecessary long term injuries that often kill promising future of many, many young players.
I was a terrible skater but still loved playing hockey
This kid is some hockey player! Great moves, passes and shoots with great accuracy, future NHLer
Lmao
Nah.
Settle down not even close.
I like how he woke up after the hit. A lot of kids first game bantam would've been puck shy after that. He went right after them good on the kid.
1:32 the way he pushed him into the wall, that was hilarious 😂 Thank God for the padding
Now there's a kid that I would be proud to have on my team. Great talent and skills ....and just as imporantly, heart of a lion. Keep improving kid...you've got a future!!!
Thanks
Bantams was a great time for me as a bigger kid within my age group but after bantams I went straight to U18AAA and was annihilated hahaha. Hardest hits I’ve ever took came from that transition.
My sons best game was as a freshman being called up from the JV squad to the varsity , first shift he beat everyone down the ice and passed the puck out from behind the net for an assist. He was every where . It was all down hill from there for 3 years . Bad coaching, shifted him from forward to defense , sat him if he carried the puck . Hope this kid has great success. Looks like he will .
After many years playing hockey, I can honestly say my kid was never laid out once... except in practice pinching in on our best player (who is now an NHL draft pick). Plenty of sticks to the nuts and shot blocking pain. This kid has decent skills all the way around. Have fun!
Who is the draft pick
Who is the draft pick?
dude that kid has a future ahead of him his awareness is great and he doesnt go out of his way to hit people he knows his lane and waits to hit great player i will see him in the nhl thats for sure
We started hitting back in peewee. If contact has been pushed back to bantam, that is great. In peewee especially there was such a difference in the sizes of the kids and a great variation in skill level. It made it hard for kids to stick with it if they were a little behind in development. Better to be able to develop the skills and joy for the game first. Looks like it was a good game he had out there.
Officiating pee wees was always a bit of a nightmare for me for this reason. You'd always have a kid or two who could almost pass as midget let alone bantam, and there were always kids getting hurt from clean hits. Then you'd then have parents screaming at you for not calling a penalty clean hit. Just a no-win situation.
What a hit 🔥
He is really good and I can tell is is a smart hockey player. Good Luck
All these videos have always made me want to try hockey, I guess I missed my chance since im a freshman now.
It’s never to late to try
I agree you still have time for sure... just make it happen
dude its never to late to try im going into fresh men year right now and i am trying to start playing
It is never too late to play and have fun but sadly it is far too late to be a good hockey player.
I started as a junior it's worth it
Everyone on here is saying that bantam hockey separates the men from the boys. Half these kids won't be playing in a couple years. I sense an eventual budding relationship between our Subject and #8 for the other team.
Awesome!! Bantams is when hockey gets real!!
Those transition shots though!
Wow that was soo long ago for me. Happened when stick handling down the ice and watching the puck. Bang, like hitting a wall. Had to learn to not look down to much. Played football on the American side and learned early on how to take and give hits. Really helped my game. Good hitter and not much else. Decent player. And we had a bench clearing every other game. Had an awful team, but you could fight in those days. Late seventies. Just wished I played more and also started late. Best sport I ever played except boxing. Hockey is still number one. Played one mining town team once and the kids were all like 180 pounds and had mustaches. Grew some huge kids they played on slow ice and they hit a lot.
MAN LOVE THIS! My son started bantam just last season.. I can totally relate.
Good vid but we don’t need 62 replays from 17 angles
Got it!
I like the additional angles. it's like a replay
Don’t watch it?
@@mrsbee7853same
I don't see why they will need to not watch the video. Its just a suggestion and I personally agree.
bro was flattened like a pancake
I was cheering for him, kids starting to learn their strengths, good stuff.
Nice hits boys. They looked pro!
thanks for showing it 3 times, super cool.
I remember my first shift as a bantam, I was trying to skate the puck out of the zone. I looked down for one second to get control of the puck and get steamrolled into the boards. Luckily after the first hit you don’t make the same mistake again
I forgot they changed the rules, you use to be able to start checking in peewee.
As a goalie The only thing I had to worry ab was harder shots
cool! curious what is the camera system you used for these vids at the rink?
Insta360 One X
Kid went hard!
contact in Bantam are still a no-go here, except in the AA division. and I think it's for the best for our teenagers to be honest. the younger they get concussed, the worst it gets down the road.
Agreed
Wait What?!? When I was a kid, hitting was allowed starting in Pewee
@@s.v.saylaraye3212 yeah it was allowed 20 years ago. things have changed alot since. I think it's for the best to be honest especially at young age where your body/head isn't fully developed yet.
I would probably agree. Coaches have to adjust, though. Teach the kids to keep their heads up before they have to worry about getting laid out, so it isn't as much of a transition when guys are bigger and stronger.
@@christ9359 keeping his head up should be taught during Novice anyway. Always know where your teammates are so you can pass the puck ! too often you see players look down the puck and never in front at this age and they keep this very very bad habit until Bantam where it is not acceptable to eat the puck.
This is why I stopped at PeeWee. I was 4’8’’ and weighting 60 pounds at this time. And it took 3 more years until I grow up. At 16 years old, I was still 4’8 and 60 pounds
Sad
Good timing and game sense. :D
Btw that camera behind the net is insane sick angles
Great hockey IQ and player awareness. The smaller skilled kids have to be protected from goonery. Ref did a good job. Kid is talented, nice skater
Unless this is a non-contact league, none of the stuff in the red circles seems illegal except for 1:36 which should be a penalty.
Bantam was easily my favorite years playing hockey, I had my grow spurt last year Peewee so started first year bantam at 5'4" 140 lbs so I had a good size over 3/4 of every one else. Being a winger with speed I loved coming in hot on forchecks and just being a huge nuisance to the other teams D and goalie. Basically a bigger Gallahger lol so that was a fun year. 2nd got called up to play D and that was a whole other side of the game to me, and didnt take long to earn a rep where opposing F wouldnt even want to come to the net to screen our goalie, those were good times. Unfortunately in midget, back to playing forward, I handed grew ( 28yo now and still same size ffs ) so I didnt really have the same impact but still was solid enough to take a couple of towers down lol but definitely got the worst end of multiple huge hits, not all clean since still had a bad rep. 3 bad hits from behind and my head hitting in the boards each giving me 3 concussions. Ahh the good old days lol
loved hockey and loved hitting and scoring but as soon as you get into CLUB hockey the politics are just ridiculous. im 28 too and in my time it was very bad, all the rich kids got to play or big guys who couldn't skate worth a fuck. that was Alberta and im sure its 10X worse with these private schools now i just wish more organizations would looks for the team player not the flashy or rich kids. give everyone a chance. After REM AAA i was sick of the hockey politics and quit giving a fuck and was still captain my last 2 years. Tried a bit for junior and was a force but still wasn't given a second look cause i wasnt heard of. my main point is roll the lines at minor hockey level and give everyone a chance instead of defeating there confidence early on
@@lucaszadery19 its all youth sports... $$ talks...
What's crazy is that these days a big minor bantam player is 6 foot, and 5'4" is on the smaller side. Kids these days are massive
Yeah but certain sports are worse. Here in Edmonton for hockey of your looking at the top tier team it's around 30k a year
what age is this? im asking because in my U17 league these would have been clean hits except maybe for the one at 1:34
If we only had footage like this in the old days
What camera was used behind the goalie?

Honestly the refs calls were weak, but tell me,
which team won? I’m curious. That was some pretty big hits there, there ok right?
Minor bruises etc?
All is good.
Chicago Blues.
Plus I noticed these kids use these sticks as weapons way more now than they ever did when I was younger
I couldn't agree with you more!
The revenge is not my thing had me on the floor dying of laughter
That was a pretty nice snipe
This kids pretty good. He’s fast, keeps his head up, and has good awareness. He was better than I was as a bantam.
As for the hitting, I never really went through the same issues that most people faced. First of all, I dropped from an AAA team to an AA team though I played a year up so the game was significantly slower and easier to adjust, and I was always one of the taller kids on the ice so I could most often brace for hits and be perfectly fine. Use the wall to keep yourself up and you most likely won’t fall. Ive been hit up against a wall and made it out losing minimal speed.
The goalie is stopiff so he can’t react fast and he won’t stretch out cuz if your stiff Yiu have to push yourself to move so if your relaxed Yiu can save that first goal- quote from a random goalie on the internet
This is when some kids realize if this game is for them or not. It’s how it goes. Process of ‘Elimination
No it’s not 💀

Bruh I’m a goalie I get trampled and hit hard and I’ve been doing it for 7 years. I haven’t quit
@@Courtneyb33 goalies rarely get trampled calm yourself
@@Courtneyb33 no I meant some kids this age realize they can’t take a hit and then quit playing because they are scared. I didn’t mean any particular person or player. However if you get hit that much your defense are a bunch of teddy bears.
All the hits where clean
Looks to me like we got a good little hockey player right there !!!
I played for over 15 years coach for five and taught privates and in this day and age unfortunately I can't stand the usage of the sticks cross-checking no one knows how to check properly more and I know they've taught to keep both hands on the stick at all times which creates all kinds of bad habits
My friends first bantam game was for the timberwolves, he got concussed
Worst part is that kid who hit him wearing number 1 as a player
RUclips suggested this to me, I was not disappointed.
Clean hit
What? He tried to go through the larger guy who just stood him up. Live and learn.
And why the heck has the ref got his hand up for? That is not a penalty anywhere in the world.
I’m a second year bantam and I wish I could hit like this and not get a penalty the reason being is because USA hockey two years ago was like.
Let’s make everything like Peewees now
😁
Nothing wrong with that hit.. maybe a little high for minor hockey standards
1:20 was a clean hit . The one back was dirty
I had a welcome to pewees moment when you could still hit
Nice. Watxh out for that last one tho, I know in reffing school they have talked about cracking down on cross checks alot more, just like the NHL has been.

I love how the referee called the penalties against the first hits from the opponent, but when the player starts checking them the same way, the referee doesn’t call a penalty. He let the kid get his revenge. What a legend.
It's not the same thing. The penalties given are caused by gestures in the back while the youngster takes revenge by going there instead of legal gestures... even if one of the blows is doubtful, his opponent has his head down.
